The Type 9 is the result of someone at Lakon deciding to attach thrusters to a warehouse. The Type 10 is what happened when the designers at Lakon had way too much Onionhead and decided that their flying warehouse needed guns and a spoiler as well.

My favorite thing about this ship was FDev originally advertised it as a ship designed to address the Thargoid threat, but then the AX community got their hands on it and realized it's one of the most awful AX ships in the game so they removed that bit from the ship's in-game description.

Im the cmdr that is dedicating time to making fighting in a t10 with gimbals weapons viable. Its turning into an art form
Thats the way to do it. With some careful aiming you can get every gun you've got firing on one target. Admittedly its hard to do versus a smaller target but then you're only getting half the T-10's guns on a target which is still more than a Phantom's worth of guns, boohoo.
From ambush a full set of overcharged incendiary multis will vaporize anything smaller than a python in a couple seconds.
i bet lots of FA-OFF would help!

@@nzfuryr34 in a one on one or against a bunch of small ships oh yeah. Drop the shields with a fighter and sick the bear on em while you work the next. But if you ever get outnumbered drop your fighter to cover and run. Only time I died is when the free fire turrets turned the 3 police anacondas on me lmao.

Fun fact. Ramming smaller ships with this is very satisfying. You barely notice it but their shields will buckle. It is a beast.

One of my earliest memories playing elite was witnessing this monster enter through a mail slot. Back then I was still in a viper mk III, very new to the game and I hadn’t gotten a sense of scale for ships. I honestly thought ships didn’t get much larger than what I had. My jaw dropped when I saw this thing.
My Type 10 is called Kaon, after doing some engineering and stripping it down a little and prepping for mining I had a useable 45ly jump range :-) I then set out with DW2 and took Kaon, or more to the point Kaon took me all the way to Beagle point and back again, yeah its slow, it turns like a hippo in quick sand and is like trying to dock a small moon but it never lets you down, it gets under your skin like an old land rover and thats why I love the Type 10 Defender 😊👍🏻

Well, it's as wide as the International Space Station, so a flying city isn't that far off.
When I did a bunch of numbers it was hard to compare the Type 10 to any ship. Everything you can do in a Type 10 can be better done in another ship , but the Type 10 can compete in so many categories. Then I realised that the only ship I can compare it to is the Python. The Type-10 when it comes to the numbers is like a large version of the Python (if it could use a fighter bay ). Similar jump range , all arounder type.
That can also describe the Anaconda, in an even more literal sense in it being basically a larger Python

Taking into account the massive jump range of a Anaconda no. The Anaconda is very different considering among large ships the Anaconda has the best jump range. Trading the Python and Imperial Cutter are more similar .both have highest cargo for each size class and have similar jump range.
Now considering the way the type 10 is basically a weaponized type 9 perhaps my earlier comment was wrong. I believe it is more like how the Keelback is a weaponized version of the type 6. They should have just called the Keelback the Type 8

I took a T10 to colonia and loved it. It never overheats and with engineering, I got 32ly with weapons and armour. It's awesome. Thanks for another stellar video.

Took mine out to Sag A and back. Type 10 explorer vessels are broke as hell. Good jump range, crazy refueling rate, never overheats, completely self sufficient. I have repair limpets and an AFMU for hull and module repair. It’s got a SRV bay to harvest more materials for synthesizing more limpets and AFMU ammo. There’s room for a bunch of heat sinks.
I hit the neutron highway on the way back home, to the tune of 140-160LY jumps. Lemme repeat myself. 140-160LY jumps. In a Type 10. She’s a combat ship with the soul of an explorer.

@@Alen725 I think most ppl in exploration ships are normally around 60-70ly+ when doing those sort of trips, so yeah hats off for do it at only 32ly

i seriously can't wait to see what he says about the amount of dakka a corvette has sitting on it's back
i have owned all 3 for quite a while, the 10 once you eng it, has the most daka and, i have called it a "god damned flying fortress" since they fixed the power systems(it was launched with type9 power systems...horrible...), for combat, its my favorite ship, vette and cutter are about equal, depends on the situation..the 10 though..you can farm high intensity conflict zones, till your corrosive high cap auto cannons are out of ammo, and you cant craft anymore, or till you are out of limpets, or till you are out of inv space for materials...
honestly thermal bi-weaves with low draw, 3-4 high cap resistance augmented boosters the rest high cap with high cap, and you will not have any issues bullying vetts, cutters, hell i take every wing kill and nonwing kill over X value, for the same system, then, often, jump in, let the first one interdict me, then jump out, do that 2x, then, start killing, because...as you fight, more will drop in, eventually, you will have them fighting eachother as you fight them, and, will be able to take them out, and get them all done at once... then jump back and collect your pay...
i love the vette and cutter, but, the 10.. honestly... i would love to see them bring out a krait mk3 thats in effect a type 10 with a tweaked config, a big more internal space, but overall, a very similar vibe...just, give me like one more 6 slot or 2 more 5's something like that... i would grab that up in a heartbeat... till then, the 10 with a rank 4 jump booster, gets me 34-35 fully loaded for bear, so....i often take it of the cutter when i hear about stuff going on, rather then the vette...thats jump range...sucks...
i have been saying since they fixxed the 10 that, it should be the first "big fucking ship" people get, not a conda, loaded with similar goals, the 10 gives similar jump range...but a far better experience, and, you can move alot of cargo... i have used the min size shield gen it will allow, and maxxed out the cargo and still had no issue killing everything that came for the cargo... the things..a flying fortress.. and..i love it...

I bought this majestic, glorious chonky girl last week. I traded in my krait mk 2, and I have no regrets. The Type-10 is definitely my favorite ship. My only gripe is every paint job looks amazing that I can't decide.

Man, your reviews have been at the heart of all my ship purchases so far. I started playing ED from late January 2021. I remember excitedly seeing ED, after playing the original Elite waaay back. From Sidewinder to Cobra, now at an Asp Explorer as a longish range multi-purpose passenger runner, building up to my first mid-sized ship - TBD 👍🌟
That Asp upgraded and engineered actually has close to the longest range in the game.

I always loved the Type 10. It feels the most like what it is, an incredibly heavy, slow, lumbering Space Tank. It is staggeringly tough, when the shields drop, the hull just soaks up the punishment without a worry. My favourite use for the 10 was in a Combat Zone. Just sit there, pick a target and concentrate all that fire (as well as you can!) If the other side start attacking you, you have shields and massive amounts of armour to keep you safe. Good times!!!

It is *the* Thargoid scout hunter. Takes a beating, dishes out a beating. The inertia works pretty well for helping aim with rails or gauss (for people like me that are a bit twitchy on the controls). Great ship. One of my all time favourites. Not great for tackling the bigger Thargoid interceptors, though: too slow, with too weak shields.
Considering that Scouts are agile you can just outfit a medium ship for 60m Cr and it will work better. Will be also fast enough to escape the caustic missiles. I wish T10 was better, his only benefit is tankiness
@@sirruf9618 In principle, yes, I agree with you. However, in a threat 6 NHSS, when a beserker pulse goes off the tankiness is invaluable, possibly essential. One caustic missile can be avoided, twelve, not so much.
@@cmdrjontomasson5510 fair point. I feel that I need to clarify here that the litmus test for me is how good will the ship perform in a solo fight. Also I don't hunt Scouts (and apart from AX Conflict Zones, where it's inevitable, never had) or Cyclops (not any more), and for Interceptors like Basilisk and higher T10 is too slow, not agile enough and can not use Gauss due to very bad convergence (and AX MCs against Basi+ just won't work).
Description 'designed/good for AX combat' is very inaccurate because:
1. There are ships that will kill Scouts just as good as T10 - take a medium ship with AX MCs, a decontamination limpet (it repairs the hull as well) and FMU, ot top of that it will also be more fun to fly and will cost you around 60-70m Cr.
2. There are ships that will be way better against Interceptors of ALL variants, still those ships are not described in-game as 'designed for AX combat'.
Being a full-time AX pilot I am looking for the optimal weapon against the hardest oponent in the game, T10 is very far from being such weapon and has a very limited use, which is even more baffling considering its cost.
@@sirruf9618 In that case we agree completely. The Type 10 does not do well against anything tougher than a Cyclops unless it is in very very skillful hands. Even against Cyclopes, the majority of the medium ships are better. But against scouts it is very good, coasting through even threat 6 encounters.

The secret to the type 10 is it is a COMBAT ship. Not a CARGO ship. It is meant to take hits for the team and supportive role dmg dealing and Thargoid hunting. Rely on SLFs, wings etc. Type 10 is like a PALADIN in an RPG. Taking hits like a champ, healing with beam turrets, dealing dmg to enemy ships with multiple missile bays once their shields are down.
Not going to lie this type of videos is so professional and underrated. This dude has literally sold me to all the Ships I bought. You’re one hell of a UA-cam bro. I cannot wait for you to blow up when odyssey drops.
3:34 - "Is it a greenhouse!?" :P LOL No.....it's a phased-array antenna. Each panel is a separate antenna, tied together to give a large picture. The technology was pioneered with the U-2 program in the 1980's. A nose-mounted high definition camera system called the Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar System...or ASARS for short! Although, in a pinch, you could grow tomatoes in it, if you took off the housing and flipped it upside-down! :D Love these vids man. Great work.

Nicely done! I own 2 of them. One for combat/UM, and the other strictly for mining. My combat loadout is 6 burst, 2 packhounds, and a hammer. Fighter, too, of course. My mining ship has a seismic launcher, 2 abrasion blasters, and the rest mc's. Love it.
Pilot, I have to say, I've had my T10 for about a month (only been playing for 2 months) and I had it built as a combat hauler until I got into Engineering and put steroids on my T9. My T10 sort of just fell off. I loved transporting goods in my T9 again. But this video inspired me to go back, rebuild it for combat only, and I love it. So thank you for giving me a reason to get this back out.

When I first saw it, one of my buddies said "Nah, don't get that, get an Anaconda."
Boy, did I prove him wrong. For 125 Million, and 700 million more on the way, with engineering placed into it, dude's shivering in his Python.
I offered him a ride in the Multi-crew seat for a couple of Massacre missions, he hasn't regretted since most of the turret slots are either laser or multicannon. Need to upgrade to Plasma, since that's absolute.

i agree, i like many of the ships in E:D but the corvette is by far my favourite
My favourite ship in the game. I took it on Distant Worlds 2 as a Hull Seal role, and I made it to Semotus Beacon, the farthest reachable point from Sol by any ship. Sure, other ships can do things better, but like it says, it can do more things, like the python. One thing you forgot to mention... you can park on top of the sun, as close as you want without hitting the exclusion zone, and go have lunch, it will not get past 65% heat.
Three years later, and I do not have a choice in liking+sub this, the vultron joke at the end sealed the deal, but (as I was already a fan boi of the T10, and knew what it can do😏) you made me feel good for buying one 🤣

I saw a wing of 3 of these pull into a Resource Extraction Zone, set all turrets and fighters to "Fire at Will" each of them had a cargo hold with gold in it. When the pirates came up and scanned them, then attacked them, they ripped it to pieces in seconds. A pirate wing of an Anaconda and two Krait MK II spawned and went for them, it was a massacre, the pirates didn't know what hit them. Between the fighters running distraction runs, and the 9 hard points, per fucking ship, absolutely annihilating anything that came within range the pirates didn't know what to do. And all the while the ships didn't dodge, didn't move, all the pilots did was pop heatsinks and shield buffs every so often. Was incredible to watch.

(For those who may not know, the YB-40 was a B-17 design during WWII where they strapped as many guns to it as possible)
I have never used Engineers. I might for this ship. I only intend to mine with it and defend my full holds of Void opals and Diamonds. I have no beef with Thargoids. Humans. Always provoking wars and acting surprised when they get what they were after.
Plans change though. I do a lot of things I told myself I never would.
Great video! I should have mine after this work week. Work seems to eat up my gaming hours. I told myself I would not buy one till I had 750 mil in reserve. Currently using a type 9 to mine in.
Got the type 10 today
Only really used it for mining, but I have added a bunch of beam Lazors and cannons in addition to a single mining lazor.
Well was on the way to a painte mining spot, then got intridicted by a player in the chiften.
He then broke my cargo scoop open only find that I have nothing but limpits.
Was quite mad so he decided leaving no witnesses is the only solution.
Iniatially with guns only the fight was on the chiften’s advantage, and I started to panik of course. Then I remembered that I’m not in the some measly medium ship, I’m in a 1200 tons space brick “thicc-10 defender” so I did the only thing that I deem logical, which is line up for a joust and go all out boosting straight into his face. 80% to 3% HP in one blink and sent spinning uncontrollably, and my turrets took care of him. Dude was completely speechless, so I sent him: “number 1 rule of thicc club, we don’t talk about the thicc club, number 2 rule of thicc club, only thicc ships are permitted”
You are right about one thing: the ship is designed to be ridiculous ( the massive spoiler comes stock, and you can make it even bigger though a ship kit) and be really good at it, to the point that you are not embarrassed by it, but love it

I took my Type 10 all the way to Colonia and i would not think twice about doing it again. Its a marvelous ship, i fell in love with it when i first started flying it. everything about it just screams amazing. When i got back home, i renamed the ship "Battleship Rashida" and outfitted it entirely with cannons, and i was shocked to see how effective that was. #1 best ship in the game, hands down.
I came to check your review on the T10 after owning one for about a month I needed a reality check, I truly feel comfortable in this ship, so much so I have 2 😀..I did take the time to G5 everything and she just soaks it up, barely ever losing a ring off the shields, even when dealing with 2 wings of npc’s. I’ve fitted turreted efficient pulse lasers all around with a mix of phasing and scramble. I don’t do AFK simply because I’m not interested in killing harmless or novice ships. That just gets boring. I take it into CNB’s or high res sites with a few tons of gold in the hold...it makes it more challenging and certainly more profitable and this way, it doesn’t always go my way..it can be very challenging, but very exciting. Oh the idea of flying a fighter with a T-10 behind you like a bodyguard sounds fun.
Type-10 is my main ship. I even installed 2 extra wings for the style. I play this game in VR, and I can surely tell you, it is a freakin beast. It's huge. Yeah, it handles like a brick with wings, but it is so damn fun to play with.

It was marketed as an anti Thargoid weapons platform but let's be honest here people, THIS is the combat capable freighter many of us had likely been wanting since the Keelback. Massive sized and sporting nearly as many weapons as an anaconda, with the strongest armor of any ship in the game barring capital ships, yes, even stronger than the corvette. With the same internals as a type 9 freighter (before they added the extra size 8 slot). THIS is a massive sized combat capable freighter. Similar to The Millenium Falcon, but like, at least twice the size. Probably more. It just so happens that it can also serve as a weapons platform so, bonus.
I only play for relaxation or to do bounty with friends but they all have condas and really wanted to try out a large ship and this big momma and I love the ability to make anything disappear
Auto docking is a MUST with this ship, and even then, I've seen the auto dock eff up squeezing it through the mail slot.
