Gales is absolutely fearless on the fretboard. He will go anywhere he feels like at any moment and pulls evry note straight from his soul. An underappreciated legend!
I'm so grateful to Linda for capturing the moment the two best guitarists alive showed their outstanding musicianship in the 'ultimate friendly face off'. It, absolutely, doesn't get any better than this.
Jordan Dangelo maybe it’s just me but I still prefer the Hendrix version. Also Jimmy Thackery has a great version on an old album called Wild Night Out from 89 . I’m sure it’s available on cd somewhere.
Joe is just a shredder and if I had the choice, much rather listen to Clapton, Page, Trucks, Mayer then listening to a guy who just wants to show of the techniques he learned!
The Blues...played like this...sends shivers up and down my spine...I may not be able to sleep tonight! I've seen other greats and I love their "blues guitar souls." After I die...where ever my blues soul goes...I hope blues is played there!
Mike Schmelzer fast doesn’t mean shit. Have you heard either of these guys hold a sustained note or with a descent vibrato? NO. Ego playing is different than soul playing.
Tesco home brand pork sausage elitist it’s all about how notes you can cram in a few seconds so try these type of players. Not creative and not impressive to me. Just a fast nothings.
Bleron Mehmeti because there’s a voice to be heard when someone has soul in their playing. I’m spoiled by the greats and to me this is jibrish nonsense.
What I've noticed on this cruise ship is that Eric Gales brings the best out of Joe. That clip of them dueling in The Ballad of John Henry is fucking phenomenal. Theres a lot of technitions and virtuosos w their various styles and signature, sound, but these guys mix great phrasing, w the building of a crescendo and melding shred runs with tasty licks like no one else. These two are great together.
I played second guitar in Little Jimmy King's band for 7 years ( Eric's deceased older brother Manuel Gales) Eric would set in many times at Jimmy's(Manuel) regular gig at BB King's Blues Club in Memphis. You guys think this was epic you should have seen and heard them two back when Jimmy was alive. Eric himself would probably tell Jimmy could spank any player that took the stage with him.Eric had great respect for Manny who also played lefty/upside down. My opinion Jimmy King will always be the best with Jimi Hendrix and Albert King when playing the blues. So many great memories, miss ya so much Jimmy.
Doesn't BB King have a blues club on the southside of Chicago??? WE got lost there and I could swear we drove by it several times. I wanted to go in but my bass player was a damn stick in the mud....
All facts Micheal Taylor i remember you seeing you guys as a youngster with my brothers!! You guys kicked serious ass on stage .And im also the lead singer for the Allstars now in memphis !!! Come by anytime
Man, I was a HUGE Little Jimmy King fan. I always hated dealing with Beale Street but seeing live was always worth the effort. Eugene Gales (the eldest bro) was also a big influence on my guitar playing.
No shit, I watch Manuel's vids all the time and finally got to meet Danuel in Memphis not too long ago. I agree with you about LJK but let's not let that take anything away from Eric. I agree that LJK would be a beast on guitar if alive today, but that velvet voice was just so great
they are amazing... i am from Romania , but guys I always loved American blues... I am mad about it !!!!! Thank you Linda, you made my day! BB and all stuff in this song, made me think again at Hendrix and SRV , wich I loooooooove.........Have a great day guys, you all and enjoy this ....Masterpiece of music art ! .. sorry for my English, if I made mistakes, I apologize. Ah , and guys , Long Live Rock'n Roll And USA :-)
iv been playing 40 years , and love all the obvious great players which there are so many of, Eric makes me want to pick my guitar these days even at home, and for all the right reasons, he reminds me of what inspiration means and how utterly important it is in the role it has in being truly great, if you fall out of love with guitar its very very sad , if you know what i mean, God love Eric, he makes me love guitar.
his energy is a large part of what he does. hes an amazingly technical player and so good and upside down too!! its about spirit. im a player im working with a drummer right now to form a band and we are both so passionate its about that passion and the sprit.
I’m 31, played from 16 to about 25 and stopped. Enjoyed a lot of other types of music but around 30 came back and felt really silly that I ever let it sit.
Eric Gales is another one like Jeff Healey who's sound you will never be able to replicate simply because you don't play a guitar the way he plays his. Fudge he's good. As for Joey B, saw him in Feb at the Broward Center, FLA.....it was a Sunday show, day 3 for him, and he came out like he was playing well rested on day 1. Cunsumate professional, tone monster, and easily the most versatile and talented guitar slinger of our era. Thank you both for this rendition of my favorite Hendrix jam - I learnt to play the blues one summer while listening to as many versions of Hendrix playing this as I could get my hands on. You guys rocked it hard!!!
@K. Y. these guys (Eric Gales and Bonamassa ROCK) but just to answer your question, check out Coco Montoya he's a long time blues player (played with Albert Collins and John Mayall to name a few) but he's a self taught, play by ear phenomenon, and plays a right handed Strat flipped over to play left handed (with the high E string on the top) like Eric Gales!!!
Eric Gales is one of my favourite players but from a transcriber's perspective this isn't really true. A guitarist's sound broken down into tone , technique and timing( which a lot of people call ' feel') . As long as your playing the right notes with those three components you can replicate any guitarist. Of course with Eric Gales you would have to do much more upstrokes and rearrange some of his chord positions but his work is still completely possible to transcribe and emulate . Check out this guitarist who has nailed his style preety well ua-cam.com/video/md_pXjqZJEQ/v-deo.html
The Contrast of the Scorching Humbuckers’ and the Stratocaster’s -Horn like single coils is pure Honey!!!!! These Boys are The Coolest Blues Cats Walking the Planet right now💪👍🇺🇸
These guys are timeless! You know when them blues gets you to smiling and laughing, it's pure gold! Hendrix would have loved jamming with these guys, and vice-versa! Wonderful improvisation and expression through those guitars! This is as good as their rockin' John Henry number performed together on the same cruise! Thanks a bunch, Miss Moke, for these spectacular, tasty treats! Hat's off to that bass player and awesome band, too! WOW!
@Mike 72 Hard to go wrong there! Got lots of favorites. If you haven't heard young Kingfish, check him out sometime! So many greats, and we're back to making GOOD music, again!
6 minutes of total restraint and then holy crap!!! at 12:45, EG digs dep with a chickin pickin lick and a legato arpeggio that is AMAZING... problem is he's cutting heads w/ Joe and Joes got all that in his arsenal too.. fabulous duel very fun.
Wow when they started it just totally dragged me in. Red House is one of my all time favorite songs. This was moving to the end. I miss concerts like this.
Sounds like the deep down delta Mississippi authentic Blues. Both of these guys did justice to the Blues, by allowing the Blues to have a voice to speak 🗣️ 🎸🎸
This performance was amazing! Eric and Joe have to be not only technically incredible but smooth as a back side of a Sports Illustrated swin suit model covered in coconut oil. Way too cool!
Both of them are so good that it doesn't matter who we think is best because it's just a '"matter" of opinion. Eric does seem to be more well versed on more chords and scales while Joe's Hard Rock Blues approach seems to be more successful business wise.
Missmoke007 Thanks so much for sharing this amazing music! To anybody not enjoying this, that is a you thing! Get a life! Anybody can nitpick anything...
Excellent!!! Thank you for posting Linda.A masterclass in playing the blues.Love how left handed upside down players communicate their music like Eric Gales ,Doyle Bramhall etc. do.
Right. On Joe's show on Sirius XM bluesville channel he (Joe) said Eric is today's best blues player hands down. I know there's a lot of mutual respect between the two of them.
Agreed. Maybe Kenny Wayne Shepard, John Mayer and a young cat Buddy Guy is mentoring named Quinn Sullivan are not too far behind but still they aren’t in the stratosphere(no pun intended) as these two. These two are THE greatest blues guitarists on the planet
I've played red house with eric gales at the rock and roll fantasy camp. I thought I could hold my own, and eric took every ounce of energy out of the room... my hands locked up and I could barely play. Kudos to joe for tearing it the hell up!
Don’t even think the people there know what they just got to experience lol. How amazing, had the pleasure of being a part of a masterclass with joe and open for him in a guitar orchestra but would’ve killed to watch this live wow.
Thanks guys, just what I needed. Nice to know my SG is being repaired by the same guys who are building Joe's Albert King Flying Veeee copy. Big Rapids Rocks
The mark of great accompaniment on the same instrument. You don't have to be louder, you just have to weave your bits in and you can see these two are playing with each other by also playing within each other's lines.
Gales is absolutely fearless on the fretboard. He will go anywhere he feels like at any moment and pulls evry note straight from his soul. An underappreciated legend!
I recently discovered him (thanks to JoeB). I think he’s better than Bonamassa
Love how when he’s outside and in the sun, Joe doesn’t wear shades! 😂
Lol
The sun be burning his 👀's
😂😂😂
Ha ha ha ha
stage lights are killer on the eyes.
Well, he has his hat 😂
These aren't duels! This is pure, raw emotion in the language of music. The joy and passion these masters are laying out is Keeping Blues Alive !
Point > Counterpoint
I'm so grateful to Linda for capturing the moment the two best guitarists alive showed their outstanding musicianship in the 'ultimate friendly face off'. It, absolutely, doesn't get any better than this.
Thanks Keith :)
A pleasure. I'm an old guy who finds himself lucky that I was still here to see it. I'm very grateful.
Iron sharpening iron.. These guys are bringing out the best in each other, and I'm glad about it. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Spot on. These guys need to tour together.
I COULDN'T have said anything better; they're BOTH fantastic!
Exactly!
Best comment of these two ever!
I love how fearless both of these guys are.
They need to do that more often. They bring out the best in each other and they have mutual respect for one another.
Wow Eric and Joe together playing Hendrix. Doesn’t get much better than this in the modern era
Jordan Dangelo maybe it’s just me but I still prefer the Hendrix version. Also Jimmy Thackery has a great version on an old album called Wild Night Out from 89 . I’m sure it’s available on cd somewhere.

Phenomenal
@@hughsnyder891 You ain't shittin' about the Jimmy Thackery version. Jimmy is a stone killer on guitar. This version is nothing to sneeze at either!
Joe Brethel Haha ! Yes I agree and I just saw Jimmy Thackery here in Phoenix last week.
The two most extraordinary blues rock players alive today!
I am speechless how a major blues can be played so masterfull and with so much emotion and precission at the same time. Two great blues guitarists.
The Blues...played like this...sends shivers up and down my spine...I may not be able to sleep tonight! I've seen other greats and I love their "blues guitar souls." After I die...where ever my blues soul goes...I hope blues is played there!
Joe doesn't often play with someone who is as fast as he is. You could tell he was digging it. Eric is a monster!
Mike Schmelzer fast doesn’t mean shit. Have you heard either of these guys hold a sustained note or with a descent vibrato? NO. Ego playing is different than soul playing.
goovialisticprofunks then why would holding a sustained note and using vibrato mean shit?

@@Bsdetectors check out some of Eric gales slower stuff, hes sublime.
Man that last 3 minutes of them going back n forth was mind blowing.
That may be the best guitar solo I've ever heard from Joe. And Eric is a Beast as usual

Guitar soulmates, that’s what they are!
Bringing out the best in each other!
I love them!
I was about to go to sleep but had to pull the Strat out from under the bed for this one..love it !
Ross Krause you need to sleep with that thing. Don’t put it under your bed. 😜
Did you burn it?
Hearing those two together just created a new standard. Not much else compares.

How can anyone say there was a loser here. These guys enjoyed each other, and we got to listen to it. All winners in my book.

Erics picking style also make the guitar sound and notes progression unique…
Eric Gales is unfuckingbelievable. It’s just too easy for him. Joe B is great but Eric gales is in a league of his own
I absolutely LOVE this! Two blues guitarists extraordinaire sharing the same stage, playing an all-time classic. Doesn't get much better than this.

Two of the greats out there today!
One of the best blues duels, I’ve ever seen. Amazing performance, by both guitarists.
Check out their John Henry duo - greatest of ALL TIME!
Damn! This is gonna make that cruise sell out quickly next year! 🔥🎸🔥
It's sold out :-(
Sho' nuff, it's gone - I looked :'(
Probably some room now?

Dame it man. lm sure out of breath. Beautiful jimi is sprinkling his magic dust upon you guys for sure.

Epic duo right here ! Living legends 🎸🎶🤟😎

Two of the greatest blues players today!!! Say no more.
Superb..finally a cover that dose this number justice.

anyone notice that opening moment when joe came in late on the riff because eric was too selfless to play it himself… love these guys
These two are on my practice list at least once a week. Learning the adventure.
these guys both complement each other the way they play. great team.
i LOVE their energy together
That lead bought tears to my eyes, Damn.
WHEW! That is HOT!! Smoking Joe Bonamassa is in the house! They are both AWESOME!!

Great video Linda! Thank you for capturing this. Joe definitely had fun playing with Eric.

FEROCIOUS FUN!!!!
Eric is classy. Dueling and lovin the others playin is wonderful!
Funny how shredding and boxing can lead to the same thing- tearing it up! Amazing! Gotta love love it! No doubt!
So good it makes me chuckle.
So great! Words can't describe
Joe and Eric should do an album together.
Just sayin!
and so it is happening just now
It was an incredible cruise with incredible artists. Cheers. Mark
