After reading “Sweet Thames Run Softly “ by Gibbings, my husband and I rented a longboat on the Thames one summer. That was fun, as the “eights” were practicing for the annual Regatta against Cambridge. The riverside pubs were part of the charm, but one stop for a “great British breakfast” was a stupefying experience. Fried liver, fried eggs, fried bacon, fried mushrooms, fried bread combined.
