      pff its Eb major my guy. People love to over complicate things. Negative 5-1 cadence is the clearest way of viewing it.

      @@Zacharysandilands locrian mode is not more complicated than the major mode, it's just different so, if that person hears that as a D locrian then what's wrong with that ? If you hear it as a Eb major good for you but it's not the same for everyone

    What is special about improvisation, specially good improvisation is that you don't know when they make a mistake. Because they find a way out of it through (you guessed it) improvisation.
    You can see at the beginning, he's gone in the wrong chord progressing direction 0:34 (went up, instead of down't and couldn't resolve), but altered the whole partition of the song the way it sounded even better. then later at 0:43 you can see again him searching for a resolve, but couldn't find it, so he slipped in a filler to rearange the chords in order to sing again in tune. Then at 1:08 when he says kisses, you hear that he first sings the tone, then finds a supporting chord. That means he first feels, then sings, and follows with hand accordingly.
    There are many instances from where you can pick up that he's improvising and that what he sings and plays sometimes doesn't go together, but he plays his way out of it and just makes a whole that is great to listen to.

      Lovely theory, but I genuinely don't believe any of these were mistakes, because they are so perfectly in accordance with the kind of style and techniques that Jacob employs.

    • @bmoremike
      @bmoremike 6 років тому +13

      My take is that he catches himself almost starting to play something cliche and says to himself "OK, play something off the wall to force myself to find the way back to the song." It's as if playing a standard resolution is a trap to be avoided at all costs. Think of Brer Rabbit -- a cliche is like the tar baby and a random chord, etc. is like the briar bush.

    • @SeanFenlon
      @SeanFenlon 4 роки тому +1

      Trust me. Jacob Collier does not make mistakes.
      From Kung Fu Panda...
      Oogway: There are no accidents.
      Shifu: [sighs] Yes, I know. You've already said that twice.
      Oogway: That was no accident either.

    • @sophiafake-virus2456
      @sophiafake-virus2456 4 роки тому

      I like your analysis.
      It's as if he believes he can perform anything and find his way, same with his vocal, the consequence is a directionless, unfocused, scrappy, at times ridiculous and more importantly, tasteless performance.

    I'm already totally wiped out by the brilliance of this astonishing musician. But, this is not one of my favourites. (Sorry, guys!) I hope Jacob will revisit this song one day and bring us a new interpretation. See - the words of the song are famously MAGNIFICENT. They need to be shown as much respect as the melody. "AND THE MOMENT THAT I FEEL THAT - YOU FEEL THAT WAY TOO" is such a perfect line it really shouldn't be altered. "feel that" and "feel that" are a matching pair.
