Technically, it's arguably worse than "Stupid". That sign is attached to a word that was historically assigned to the (D/d)eaf in a less than flattering way, that can upset some elder Deaf folk if used as a direct insult. It's kind of like the "R" word when assigned to the neurodivergent.
Tbh if I was signing all the time I wouldn’t want my fingers to look like roaches I’d try to have them done as frequently as possible so I see as to why she’d have them done 😂❤

Some hearing people like to correct and try to control deaf/HoH people, just like some abled people like to correct and try to control disabled people. They think that we are broken, so they treat us like children or charity cases. They try to "fix" us. 🤢🤢🤢
People saying “oh I know a guy who knows sign language and that’s not sign language” Dude there are over 300 different sign languages from language to language and we are talking English so most likely we are using ASL and BSL

Keep in mind that every country/language has their own sign language. ASL stands for American Sign Language, so it's specific to America, and it's also different from English sign language. There is technically a Universal Sign Language, but it's not super well known across the board. I recommend learning German Sign Language! It'll be the most useful for you :)

i went to a pantomime with school today and they used sign language for christmas songs at the end. i recognised it straight away and it warmed my heart. i was even trying to join in w the sign language for some of it:)

Fr I got detention once bc i was signing to one of my hearing impaired friends and the teacher and students were saying things like "Their throwing up gang signs" "ik a friend that knows asl and thats not it" but the thing is SIGN LANGUAGE HAS DIFFERENT DIALECTS PPL
As a person who is deaf I can confirm this is the right way to do sign language 🤟. My friends ask me, “ then how do you know how to type 🤨.” Or “She’s so fake trying to do that fake sign language showing off her press ons..” they think that they can say everything around me because I’m deaf, but I have a hearing aid finally 😜

Story time : one time I was hanging out with one of my friends let’s call her J and we were walking around with her other friend of hers let’s call her B and I was teaching J another sign because she had wanted to learn some signs and then B was saying that I wasn’t signing “real signs” so I had asked her why does she think that and she says that her mom is fluent in asl. The next day me and J had slept over at her house and sort of talked with her mom to ask how do you sign sorry AKA the sign I was signing before and she said she doesn’t know because she only knows how to sign the alphabet. 😔
