Hey guys! Thanks for all the support, I'm so thankful for everyone who has come to me and said they enjoyed the video! BE SURE TO WATCH THE ORIGINAL RUN! With all of this in mind, it makes the viewing experience all the more fascinating: ua-cam.com/video/TR6xLnUkxao/v-deo.html
PEOPLE IT HAPPENED, JUST 8 MONTHS after this video was released! SUB 20 WAS BROKEN by non other than ChaosDrifting! idk kinda just felt like screaming a little
I am honestly flabbergasted.... If the KOTOR speedrun community would focus its attention on something more serious we would have had sustainable fusion or FTL drives already. Hats of to your intelligence, ingenuity and dedication though. KOTOR is my favourite game of all time and I've played it like 80 times (but I usually take 40 hours to do it) and I couldn't have imagined the game would still be able to suprise me in this way XD
To be fair, its much easier to manipulate game code than it is particle physics lol Still though, its always impressive to watch speedrunners do their thing.
1:16, 1:23:38 - OH MY GOODNESS! THERE I AM, THERE I AM!!! *ahem* Man this was a ride and a half. Seeing every single glitch and trick here being dissected and explained in detail was so freakin' cool in this format, especially with how this was edited. Its honestly crazy to see how far good ol' R4nch has come since his NMG days. I learned quite a bit here and I'll be honest it kinda inspires me to do an any% unrestricted run at some point in the near future when I have the time to buckle down and study the route. Incredible work here man. This video was quite the treat.
Your videos have the elusive combo of visual explanation and engaging commentary. I can't thank you enough for sinking so much time and effort into both. Watching this one all the way through and subbed before I was half-way done.
Wow this video was so well-made you deserve way more subs. I’ve never understood a lot of kotor speedrunning tactics but for the first time I kinda understood.
Frankly, this should be shown to some of the developers and catch their reactions to it. I saw a 'similar' (ie glitches, but no similar descriptions or graphics to explain it) video with some devs for HL2 to watch speedrun of it.
even though im not the speedrunning type, this video is a great watch if you want to learn about the mechanics of KOTOR and improve your games, great job
seeing this video pop up in suggested videos and my reaction was: wahawuha I literally couldn't form words to describe what i saw, I was expecting a game like KOTOR to have a a speedrun time of around an hour but 20 minutes is insanity, i'm struggling to comprehend that my favourite game of all time can be beaten in 20 minutes.
Lmao how does a video about a 20 year old game (niche) SPEEDRUN (even more niche) not have more views Maybe it’s because this is one of the most obscure topics imaginable
Not going to lie: initial thoughts 💭 “Pff, an hour to explain a 20 minute run?” Actually watching it 📺 “Super informative and interesting, good work!” 👍
Every now and then I search up KotOR speedruns to check in on this amazing game + community. What a surprise to find this amazing in-depth explanation of such a cool speedrun. Awesome work finding all those glitches and explaining this run!
Honestly, having played Bioware games for two decades, the most shocking thing I learned from this video is that they called the planet-hopping portion of the game the "Creamy Middle".
Oh yeah I remember watching Glasnonck and Indykenobi many years ago. Crazy to see how far speedruns have come since. And I am really happy my favourite game of all time has such an alive community still.
Lane, this is an amazing analysis of the speed run explaining intricate details of what is otherwise an incomprehensible run. Would you ever analyze a speed run of KOTOR II?
Kotor (Kotor II specifically) is my favorite all time game. I have played hundred of playthroughs over the years and can't believe I never thought about there being a kotor speedrunning community. Looks like I have a lot to catch up on.
I think what astounds me most about this run is that BioWare programming a needless but kind safety check--someone playing KotOR can safely be assumed to know what ALT + F4 does, absent edge cases like small children--is what ultimately blew the game wide open.
That’s crazy this is one of my favorite games of all time. And part of why it’s so good is because the long story. Would of never thought it was possible to beat in 20 minutes.
And heres my fastest time sitting at 30 hours 😅 No but seriously this was amazing, its always amazing seeing people figure out out of bounds and level skips. Like how do you even begin to think of even doing these things to begin with
I tried watching this high and simply could not keep up with the insane tech, so I came back sober and watched the whole thing again cause I *needed to know*. ps your wifi network is mine now
It'd be great if I could hear shit all over the music at 16:20 Edit: This actually seems to be a recurring thing, around the parts where explanations occur. Y'know, the parts where I'm supposed to be able to hear what is said?
idk why UA-cam reccommended this to me but I like KOTOR and speedrunning. This video follows the trend I see in speedrunning videos where there is a whole portion dedicated to shoutouts to pros and paying respect to the pioneers and I think that's real neat.
Been playing this game since I was little and this entire video was completely mind blowing. Is there still a valid link for the discord? I'd love to be a part of it even just to learn some of these tips and tricks.
Okay my only critique is the loud moan about half way through. The joke was funny, but the volume was painful in my earbuds. I'm thinking a lot of people will listen to these as they fall asleep, so keeping those audio spikes more level might retain more viewers. Otherwise loving this channel! Keep up the good work!
I can't believe no one made an update or patch that zooms in on some of the menus. I'd rather they stretch the 480p art from the menu than to have it so small.
Wait wait wait. At 41:09 (if you go frame-by-frame) you can see the game transition between the two conversations you have with Canderous verrrry naturally. Almost as if... Does the game actually account for you already getting the launch codes before speaking to Canderous?
I think I've accidentally done a dlz by accident before. Plenty of glitches I've experienced that made no sense at the time, so I imagine the world record does have more to go..
The music when you were explaining the fake leveling up was really loud compared to your voice. For future reference maybe dial that noise down a little bit Hell most of it is quite loud.
im always in the mindset that cutscenes should never be counted for any game since your not playing during them. sounds easier to me to make a timer that pauses during them then doing all these fancy glitches to skip them.
It won't crash. There are some NPCs that can't be killed because they're invulnerable or have minimum 1 hp. But otherwise, you can pretty much kill anyone, including plot important NPCs. This can lead to some funny softlocks. Like killing the Jedi Council and getting stranded on Dantooine.
"Well, brace yourselves, because things are about to get more complicated." It was at this point that the blood really started to steadily flow from my nose, ears, and eyes. And then it just suddenly began to poor from my mouth like saliva.
So the uncompiled source for the scripts written with the never winter scripting language are available within the templates.bif data file. This is not the ENTIRE source code. Not to mention all the scripts elsewhere and still compiled. So some of the comments you see in this video are my own, and others are from the devs (such as the "creamy middle" comment). Also some of the code are things I reverse engineered on my own. It varies a lot. But no, we do not have the full, unabridged, source code unfortunately. As much as I'd love to have it.

I learned a lot from this video and the video is vaguely about me 🤔🤔🤔 . Great job Lane! I am very flattered.
Good job 👍
I love that you have a thrashers jersey on in the speedrun. They still live in our hearts. #BlueLand
Agh!Hacker
To me there's nothing better than an in-depth video of a niche topic created by someone who is passionate about it. Great job

Yeah the Halo CE devs watching a speed run was one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve seen!
God I love this game so much lol
I always end up coming back to it even though I know every single bit of the dialogue lmfao
even though im not the speedrunning type, this video is a great watch if you want to learn about the mechanics of KOTOR and improve your games, great job
A one and a half hour video about speedrunning strats on Kotor? Shit I know what I'm doing tonight.
I had played this game a lot and never imagined how much can you broke it down in a Speedrun until i found your video, nice work lane
Call me crazy, but I think Lane is a Chrono Trigger fan. :P
Fantastic video, and thanks for explaining in so much detail!

I just started getting into speedruns and this taught me a lot! Great job man!
If i were you, get a real job instead of doin these nonsense.
Not going to lie: initial thoughts 💭 “Pff, an hour to explain a 20 minute run?”
Actually watching it 📺 “Super informative and interesting, good work!” 👍
indeed! thx Lane!
This is honestly less of an actual "speedrun" and more of a save corruption lol.
Oh man that cracked me up! "KotOR1 unrestricted speedruns - An Excercise in Save Corruption"
Speed runners are a different breed, man. I have no clue how anyone could discover all these things. I wouldn't even know where to start.
We really gotta find that last 33 seconds timesave so we can quickly outdate this video. xD
This is the first time I've watched a 1-hour explanation of a speedrun.
It's poetic that a game as epic as KOTOR has an equally epic any% speedrun.
I love these videos that are 4 times longer than the run itself
Every now and then I search up KotOR speedruns to check in on this amazing game + community.
What a surprise to find this amazing in-depth explanation of such a cool speedrun.
Awesome work finding all those glitches and explaining this run!
That is alot of menuing. Very cool to see how completely broken the poor game is now 😆 Great watch!
Thanks I appreciate it, especially coming from an old timer like yourself (however brief your time with Kotor may have been)
Honestly, having played Bioware games for two decades, the most shocking thing I learned from this video is that they called the planet-hopping portion of the game the "Creamy Middle".
Great vid, seems like you got a great community!

Love the Chrono Trigger music in the background!
Lane, this is an amazing analysis of the speed run explaining intricate details of what is otherwise an incomprehensible run.
Would you ever analyze a speed run of KOTOR II?
I've considered it. These videos unfortunately take a good deal of time. Thanks though! Glad you enjoyed
This is the most hyper-niche thing I have ever seen
Not me accidentally glitching into the sith base MINUTES into a playthrough and immediately getting stoved by a sith trooper. 🤣🤣🤣
Remember when the hard save in the Lower City Cantina was crucial to the run? I thought I was fast then…
You know it's a good speedrun when the video explaining it is 4 times the length of the actual speedrun.
Dude looks too clean and healthy to be a Discord Mod

I barely understood 10% of what was going on but speedrun documentaries are fascinating
38:40 i can't stop thinking of range coming with a C63 AMG to a swoop race. im dead

Slight correction at 1:13:46, that is Evil Bastila outside the party. Evil Bastila's build when she joins the party is different and atrociously poor.

If you don’t get the fighter encounter before lehan, is that a reset point, run over?
Not quite, you can reload the save and try again. It's a 50/50 shot, so you shouldn't have to try too much. It can be a run killer though
You guys didn't break the game you turned it inside out and started playing basketball with it😂😂
sub 20 when
nice work!
There are a couple of glitches that can trigger the endgame. Kotor 2 has similar glitches. I prefer 100% runs when I'm doing it

I have a question:
What the fuck
The Chrono Trigger music in the Dantooine segment is too loud, makes it mildly difficult to understand what you're saying.
Thinking about how someone could beat it 4 times in the span of this video
i only recently played this for the first time and i very quickly got 50 hours over 3.5 playthroughs
What happens if you Wire Target and kill an NPC that was never meant to be killed? Does the game crash or softlock
Shouldn't Gadon's headstone read 3956 - 3920? Sinces its BBY :p
When you DLZ to the Gadon Fight does the door have to be closed?
Nope, just easier
When anywhere’s map glitch to skip kaskyyyk?
