I am noticing that you have dipped your brush many more times in the Dixie Bell then with the Fusion. It seems like I would use much less Fusion and that helps to go farther and with cost! Thanks for the comparison, it helped!!
Thanks, i like to paint a lot of my furniture black and i,ve learned my lesson, i,ll never use regular chalkpaint in black. I had high expectations of the Annie Sloan but waxing, even with black wax always gave a blotchy result on flat surfaces Painting with Fusion was so easy and quick, but i always wax for a bit of shine, it,s indeed mat. The DixieBelle is very expensive here in The Netherlands, but seeing your video i might choose for it next time, a mire satin finish is for me also nicer. What i also did was mixing chalkpaint with a waterbased poly and that worked perfect, When i would mix in primer i would have my one all in one paint but...the selfleveling from the DB is great. There,s a lady from the you tube channel black Sheep furniture, she makes her own recepi, it,s equal parts Bin primer, housepaint, polyurethane, and a few scoops of chalk ( calciumcarbonate) which she buys on amazon Works great for her, lots to experience if you like . Bye✌️👍
Very informative - thank you! I would love to see you do this comparison with DB and Fusion darker colors like navy blue, black, and gray. I have a hard time with avoiding brush marks and leaving "chalky" finger marks on my pieces after the paint dries when using darker colors. Thanks!
Yes those colours are tough for finger marks ... Fusion coal black is one of the worst I think. I have Fusion Ash and DB Bank sands which I can compare. Don't have any others at this point but when I do I'll compare for sure :)
Me too. I would like to see a comparison of Fusion Coal Black with DB Silk Black Anchor (if that is their true black). I had so much trouble with black chalk paint and midway switched to fusion coal black it was way better but I feel like my results could have been better. It also dried too fast and Im not sure if I should buy their extender. Please post a comparison!!
Thanks for the comparison! I've only used Fusion so far and have been a little frustrated with the brush strokes but plan on using a mister of water with next job. Looking forward to trying Dixie bell silk!!
Gee, that was so interesting and useful! I use all different paints and I notice that each 'color' actually lays differently and has different coverage. It's very helpful, thank you.
I know right? Its easy to get complacement and just stick with the paints you know and use all the time ... actually, thanks for commenting on this. You've reminded me that I want to try more paints in the New Year. I'm going to go and place an order right now! Do you have any favourites that I should try?
Really helpful. I used Fusion and didn't care for the rough texture and brush marks but thought all brands might be like that. Love tgat you've shared this. Thank you.
Was really helpful as I am contemplating getting back into refinishing furniture and have been looking at Dixie Belle and Mineral Fusion. Quick question - do you have a preference for gel stains between the two brands, specifically staining oak a darker hue? Thank you.
I useFusion Mineral Paint quite a lot and I do blend. As long as you have your trusty mister and a wide flat dry brush, no problems. It blends beautifully!
I am really sold on Dixie Belle Silk, but I wish they had more variety in colors like there are in their chalk paints. With that said, they are slowly expanding colors. I watched someone blend Silk, but mine was awful when I tried it. I did a light sand and one coat over it and it covered perfectly- just no blending.
Dixie Bell now has (what looks like) a silk all in one that may be comparable to fusion’s pressed fern. I may buy both just to see the comparison! You’ve inspired me. Thanks again.
Thank you so much you just answered my question 🙋🏻♀️ I’m looking at becoming a retailer for Silk mineral paint and was wondering why it is more expensive than fusion and now I know ❤️
Thanks for these paint comparison, really helpful. Emailed Lingocolor today for a reminder to be sent when the Chalk Paint Olive Color comes in, can't wait to try it and have the perfect piece of furniture that I very nearly threw away. When they contact me I'll put your tutorials down as a reference as would never have known about these new colours and products. I am living in Canberra at the moment & they are just not "into" this style at all. Can't begin to explain the road kill I see here. I rent a granny flat so have no place to do furniture painting but am in the process of packing and hopefully moving interstate "somewhere" soon. Retired and so ready to get my muscles moving again. Thank you again for your tutorials. So generous with your time and expertise.
Thank you for doing this. So much was learned. I'm toying with the idea of becoming a senior flyer. I'd like to start with some pieces I already have just to see how long I would take me to do one piece. Rhese would be practice pieces.. The information taken away from your channel has been very helpful. Thank you so much.
Hi, I'm just setting up as a furniture uplifter in South Wales UK, I have been using Frenchic Paint so far, it's pretty good but I'm finding most people I follow have been using fusion and dixie Bell, I'm interested to try out. Found your video really helpful. I was totally confused when you said that you were in Sydney, you sound Welsh 🏴 xx
Haha! Yup I'm a Welsh Aussie! There is very little difference between these two brands really. I'd just go with the cheapest of the two if you have them both available to you. Fusion Ash (charcoal) has AMAZING coverage.
Perfect timing! I love a good Cwtch! I'll have to do a video one day showing my fellow Welshies that my girls (Bailey and Harper) understand the word Cwtch! It's hilarious! Sometimes I say it without realising and they run straight to my bed 🤣🤣
Great video👍🏽 I’m a fan of Dixie Belle Chalk but not of the silk range so this was really good to see the different colours being used 👍🏽 I may give it another go
Great video thank you. Im only just starting yo use mineral paint. Id live a comparison with Pureco too. Thank you. Love your videos. Im in Sydney too.
Hey Jean! Nice to 'meet' another Sydney sider. I did do a video comparing blacks with Fusion DB and Pureco, but have no idea where it is now!! I'll have to plan a new one :)
I am wondering if you can mix a one of their chalk paints with a mineral pant? What would happen? I am asking because I have all three paints, silk, regular chalk in dixie belle and fusion.. and I do not want to rebuy a color when I can just mix? Thoughts please? Would it be fine? .....if I treat it more like a chalk?
Tagging paint companies on instagram and Facebook draws the companies in to sponsor . Only thing with that is that most want you to exclusively use their paint only. There's lots of Australian paint companies but not sure if they are as on board with sponsoring painters like the Americans are. Can have afilite links you can add to videos to buy their products threw . I think they give you commission of some sorts not sure what that is . I haven't seen any the other paint companies here in Australia that offer that at this point but I'm sure some might jump on board sooner or later with doing so.
This was so helpful! I love spraying Fusion paint, but I hadn't loved it's self leveling when I apply with a brush. My local DB retailer doesn't have Silk yet, but I'm excited to try it!
I love fusion mineral and Dixie Belle. However, I realize using the Fusion Bedford no matter how good my paint brushes are I still see lots of brush strokes. 😔 BUT it’s still a beautiful color and I wouldn’t change it. 🙂
Great job on the comparison and seeing these products being used, I appreciate it more than anything because I'm about to start to invest in a lot of these pains to start doing many of my own pieces that I've had to wait for 20 years to do because I've been sick... Don't recommend getting sick! My question though is I'd like to see or hear the comparison on the cost for the products? So with the fusion you had the same size in all of them so I'd like to know the cost of that? And then with the silk you had a small pot in one and then a larger pot in the other and I'd like to know the price for the silk in the larger pot you have? When looking at how they went on, the Fusion looks like you'd get a lot More paint and therefore would be more cost-effective because you'd be able to do more pieces with it?? So that's the only other comparison I'd like is to know the comparison of cost for the products?? And then seeing how much paint you get how long that paint's going to last due to what you showed us? But again I thank you for this demonstration and this comparison of these great products 😍 👏👏👏❣️❣️❣️
Really helpful video. Thank you!! I’d love to see a comparison with Pureco (if you haven’t done one yet. I haven’t made my way through all your videos yet 😊)
I do not like the splatter I get from fusion due to the fact it is so thin. I love the ash color, doing my bedroom with it. Looking forward to the comparison.
Thx for your work & efforts on comparing the paints. I would like to see if you can color blend Dixie silk with Fusion mineral and if if can be blended w other Die ie Belle silk?
Thanks Patty. Both are water based so mixing isn't a problem. Just very mindful that the top coat component will also be mixed so finish will be slightly different than usual. In my experience it's a positive 'different' though.
This was a great video, I haven’t used the Silk yet, I want to try soon. I’ve used Fusion and I love the coverage but it has a paint smell to it, I have very sensitive sinuses and every time I use it I get a headache. Does the Silk have any kind of scent to it?
Thanks Jeanine. I can't say that I've noticed a smell with it, but then I don't think I noticed it with Fusion either I'm sorry. If you have a stockist local to you it would be worth calling in and asking to see (and smell!) an opened pot 😘
I want to paint my kitchen cabinets. They are 22 years old. The finish is gone since the dishwasher was leaking steam and want detected. Construction of cabinets are still good along with the ones not near the dishwasher. But if I do a few then I must do all. Do you recommend fusion or Dixie bell silk?
My preference is Dixie Belle Silk because it has more of a satin finish than Fusion (in my opinion). for kitchen units I would also add top coat (Gator Hide) to give it a more hardy finish.
@@CraftedbyMonnowLane I don’t think so at all. You are taking off such a minuscule amount. Many people wet sand with hemp oil as well. I’m trying that soon.
I love Fusion. I have not had one problem with it. So tired of hearing about Dixie Belle every minute on painting groups. There’s other paint in the market besides Dixie Belle! I notice that you keep overworking the paint. What’s the purpose of brushing back and forth so much?
That's great. You'll note that this is a comparison between the two. In my opinion, Dixie Belle came out on top on this one. It's open for others to make their own conclusion though :) thanks for watching :)
I think just like you. Even new youtubers that are starting their channel using cheap materials ended using DB because they sponsor their videos. It doesn’t give the opportunity in the market to people start their business for few dollars because the majority of the tutorials are using DB. Obviously if you want to copy or recreate a style you will go with the same materials and you ended spending high amount of money just to sell something for a few dollars.
I'm with you now too ... moreso for the business ethics than the products for me, but I won't ever use or recommend Dixie Belle again. Actually you've just reminded me how much I love some of the Fusion colours and I haven't used it in ages! Do you have a favourite? Barberry was mine but I need to try something different. Oh and I loved Renfrew Blue! It takes a few coats but jeez it's worth it!
If a thin coat of petroleum jelly is spread on the threads of the jar, the lid will never stick.
Have you done Dixie Belle versus the common paints like rustoleum? I’d like to see that.
I am noticing that you have dipped your brush many more times in the Dixie Bell then with the Fusion. It seems like I would use much less Fusion and that helps to go farther and with cost! Thanks for the comparison, it helped!!
