  • What is the BEST All In One Furniture PAINT? Do you hate having to use primer, 2 coats of paint and at least 2 coats of top coat on all your furniture surfaces? Do you love the “All-in One” mineral paints that are available through Dixie Belle (Silk), Fusion and Melange (Melange One)? We do!!!!!! But we really want a durable finish for our customers and weren’t sure if we could save time and skip the primer and the top coats
    In this episode, Dani (daughter)and Sherry(Mom) review the All-In-Ones for workability, appearance and durability. We compare them to each other and to 2 different chalk style paints. We also look at how they perform with and without primer and polyurethane. Join us to see which paint we prefer!
    Note: We are not paint experts and although we did our best to use a scientific approach to this review, our results are subjective and based upon what we saw and felt. Others may do a similar test and come to different conclusions. And we are not affiliated with or sponsored by any paint companies at the time of this review.

    I love videos like this, real opinions from real ladies who paint full time is invaluable advice. It's funny, I'm a big fan of the FolkArt chalk paint. I don't sand between coats and if you apply slightly thinner coats it basically self levels. 2+ coats of topcoat (after cured) and it holds up great for a lower end price point on less used furniture. I'm really dying to get my hands on some Melange One in the next few weeks too. Thanks for the thorough, honest review!

      Hi Jenn, yes, honestly, with the 2 coats of topcoat, there was almost no difference between the black FolkArt and the black Melange One and the FolkArt is definitely a better price so a great product to use for sure.

    That was a shocker. But I've never used Melange paint as it's not available in Ireland. Well, truthfully the only one of those I've used is the fusion. The only thing I'll say that I was thinking when you were applying the fusion was "they're going to get brush strokes". It does say not to work it back and forth. Minimal swiping will mean it self levels and I have found this to be true. I only get a little bit of paint on the tip of the brush and never submerge it or I will end up having to work it and get brush strokes. A little goes a long way. I believe it's the same for the silk. But I'm surprised at the fact that the fusion scratched so easily. I haven't done a scratch test on it yet but will have to now. Thank you so much for doing this comparison. Extremely useful.

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Emer, a lot of great feedback there. I really love all of those paints and they were pretty close with the exception of the scratch test. It makes me wonder if the One just has more top coat in their formula than the other 2. And it was more of a satin sheen (which Dani prefers).

    Happy that I stumbled on your paint comparison tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I haven't tried many of these paints. I'd love to hear what you think of Fusion after using it on a much larger surface,. I hear it can be difficult to paint large areas without brush strokes. But, lets face it, if there's any sheen to a paint all, brush strokes will be more evident than if there's none.

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 роки тому

      Hi Kimberly, thank you for watching! This is Sherry and I used the fusion on a cabinet a couple of months ago. It was a light blue (French Eggshell) and pretty matte. I really couldn't see any brush strokes on that piece. Fusion recommends brushing in one direction with very little paint to help eliminate brush strokes, too. They have some beautiful colors and we will definitely continue to use their paints.

      Hi Brinna, thank you! Both of those seem to be super durable after curing for about 30 days. Still watching. Antique type store I work in carried Farmhouse chalk paint and Shabby chalk paint. Store down the road just closed so my boss was able to get a contract with Dixie Belle. Dixie Belle's headquarters is about a 20 minute drive from my house, so I've been excited to try. I've enjoyed Farmhouse and Shabby, once they cure, they're extremely durable. I usually sand a tiny bit before putting in a top coat. Thank you for your input. Getting more into painting and flipping furniture, so this was awesome!

    • @kristenanderson3084
      @kristenanderson3084 2 роки тому

      I've also noticed cure times are extremely important for many chalk paints. If I'm moving/bumping pieces within 48 hours of painting they scratch easy. After a week, the durability goes up as curing continues. Dixie Belle is supposed to take up to 30 days. As they cure they're adhesion goes way up and they really stick.

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 роки тому

      @@kristenanderson3084 Thanks, Kristen! Great comments! We still use all three of these all-in-one paints and they all are just wonderful to work with. Yes, we are super budget friendly over here! We are always mixing paints to get every last drop before needing to buy a new jar. We've never had issues with mixing chalk and mineral paints, but it will of course change the texture a bit. We pretty much spray all our paint, then spray our top coat. So mixing paints hasn't changed the feel of the final product for us.

      Hi AC, I'm not sure but we can usually do two average pieces with a 32 oz. size so I think that size may work for a set of bunk beds but you may require an extra coat (and more paint) if you are using a light color like white or yellow. • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Christine, thanks for your feedback. You are right, this was not a scientific experiment and definitely more based on our experience with this particular trial. We did let all the paint samples cure for several days and then applied 2 coats of polyurethane and then let everything cure for about 5 weeks before testing. We also did sand between every coat whether it was primer, paint or top coat. And every sample that had a polyurethane application was very smooth to the touch (chalk and all-in-one) the big difference were between the samples that did not have top coat applications. Our main conclusions from this is that we believe we do not always need to use a primer and that we prefer Melange One without top-coat on low traffic surfaces and any of them work fine when do use top-coats on high traffic surfaces. (Sorry... that was a really long explanation.) 🤗
