Fun fact, one of the torx bolts (from the body) will work as well in case your clutch tool breaks. Mine bound up in the dunes and snapped, luckily someone told me about the torx bolt. It also acts as a chaser because of the taper at the end. Also, you can use a few drops of engine oil from the dipstick on the tool to help lube up the threads.

I have a Polaris 700 sportsman 4wd 2004 just put in shop for a tune up, 3600 miles original belt, the mechanic said looks good, I pull a little trailer on my property with it, runs great!! I also own 2022 pro r 4 seater, not concerned with belt issues..

There’s actually two heat shields you need to remove, at least on mine, to be able to turn the bottom left tablock. What a pain in the a$$ Polaris has made this to change on the fly if you’re out on the trail! It was suggested to me to not refasten the bottom left tablock or the bottom T 27 torque screw way down at the bottom as everything will be fastened well enough without those in place. It’s bad enough that that bottom torque screw is a different size than the others, as well as needing a special long tool to reach it without dropping all the Pieces under the skid plates or burning yourself trying to remove it 🤦‍♂️ So glad I struggled to do all this at home and broke in a spare belt before being stuck with this problem on the trail. Not to mention, I cut up my forearms pretty bad on the plastic housing trying to turn that bottom tab lock with the second heat shield still in place. What a total nightmare job!

Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I have a 2021 Pro Xp. The belts in the newer machines last a lot longer than many of the older machines. That being said I clean out my belt housing and clutches every few hundred miles which is every 2-3 rides. Polaris really screwed up on not having captive screws that won't fall out and putting the cover in such a location that you have to fight with it so much just to do the regular maintenance. Also if you have any miles on that machine you should check the alignment of the belt to make sure the primary and secondary clutches are in alignment. A quick pic with your cell phone will tell you if the space on either side of the belt on the primary clutch bearing is equal. At 800 miles I had to shim my secondary clutch to stop it from spinning when in neutral and drive.

Imagine when you're on a trail and your belt breaks and you're on the trail trying to change that and there's side by sides coming up from the front and the back

Yikes, that's a real pain to do compared to everything else out there. Especially if your belt breaks out on a trail.

I have to say, on such a nice machine that procedure for a belt change would probably be a deal breaker for me. Such as shame.

For something you will ideally do every 1k miles or so…you would be giving up a whole lot just for 1 belt replacement procedure.

Good video Thanks for showing everybody the procedure. But I know it's been said before that has got to be the stupidest design I've ever seen. $50,000 car all the supposed innovation that went into that machine and that's What you have to do to change your belt. Unreal Just a fact that you had to take that aluminum shield out grind down the welds and you still have to smash the cover in and out of that tiny little area lol can't make this stuff up..
