- Understanding Structural Family Therapy Sessions, techniques and Interventions with an example: The Smiths. Salvador Minuchin's Structural Family Therapy is explained by examining examples of a session depicting joining, boundaries and other interventions. Minuchin gives great ideas on how to help a family with the challenges of blended family dynamics, generational boundaries, and the oppositional behavior of their teenage daughter, Sophia.
Key Takeaways:
Introduction to the Smith family and their unique challenges.
A comprehensive discussion on family dynamics and the patterns of interaction that have led to their current situation.
Exploration of the hypothesis from a Structural Family Systems perspective.
Detailed breakdown of therapeutic interventions and examples designed to address the family's core issues.
By the end of this video, I will have explained this and you'll gain a deeper understanding of how Minuchin's Structural Family Therapy can be applied to real-life scenarios, the importance of clear family boundaries, and the transformative power of therapeutic interventions. Whether you're a budding therapist, a seasoned professional, or someone interested in family dynamics, this video offers valuable insights for all.

7:55 where is this video and mini-series on circular questioning? I see your linked video, but since you watched the video, I don't think it would be the video you created. I am definitely curious to learn more.

This was so insightful and made a lot of sense. Thanks!
So glad these found you :)
this is such a well-produced video! i really appreciate the insights shared in the session. however, i can't help but feel that the techniques presented might oversimplify the complex dynamics of some families. not every family fits neatly into these frameworks, and sometimes a more personalized approach is needed. what do you all think?
Well, obviously - it's a 10 minute video that speaks generally on a topic.
Such a wonderful video; great insight. Thank you.
ah -thank you so much! so glad this found you and it was helpful :)
So well explained! Thank you! Id love to see roleplays as I am a student of counselling.
Thank u for many great video. I have some question about siblings boundary in structural family therapy. It’s seem like you discuss a lot about how to modify structure between parent and child. However, I wonder what we can do between sibling. In my family, I and my sibiling are distant however we don’t have any conflict. It’s ussually conflict arise between mother and kids. Is our silbing structural normal ? and how it may constribute to problem in familiy? And how to change that?
Thank u again.
Thank you for the question! May I ask how old you and your sibling are? And there is conflict between you and your mother as well as your sibling and your mother?
@@MyPeoplePatterns I am 21 years old, my brother is 18 years old, my sister is 10 years old. We don’t have any conflict however we seems distant, we don’t share much with each other. We all close to our farther but not with each other. I, my brother, my sister all little bit dislike our mother compare to our farther. Conflict in our home ussually occur between our mother and other family member because very small thing. However, I want to focus my question to our siblings boundary because your videos already help me explain cause of our conflict in parent system and boudary between parent and children.
I wonder about our siblings boudary, is that normal? Should we need to change to be closer? How siblings boudary constribute to larger family dynamic?
Thanks for replying my question. I hope I have provided enough information for you to answer. Or you can make next video about siblings relationship in structural family therapy. I am looking for forward to that topic.
@@laiquangminh631 If I were working in a Family Systems, I would have you, your parents and your siblings in my office. The fact that you are asking me to not consider your parents in this conceptualization is even more indication why your parents do actually need to be in the session. Family systems is about the family as a dynamic, what is going on with your siblings is connected somehow to what goes on with your parents.
Great video, thank you! I'm a counseling student
You're so welcome! Thrilled that this video found you and that it was helpful - good luck with your studies and let me know how they go!
@@MyPeoplePatterns Thank you! i was looking for a video about group therapy for this week's assignment, I will be using your video!
Amazing 😍
