@J-Bo-hr9zp you will need to turn off the main water supply and also change the valves under the sink if you can’t get them to shut off completely. Sorry for the bad news.
A couple of suggestions: 1) Before you do anything else, pull the drain shut so nothing can accidentally go down it, like that screw that holds the knob in place, or one of those little springs. 2) Before you replace the knob, turn the water back on and check for leaks. If it leaks, tighten the white outer piece. THEN replace the knob. One personal note: I used to fix scuba regulators and valves for a living and one thing I absolutely will not do is use channel locks or any kind of pliers on a chromed part. I always use a wrench instead to protect the chrome.
I have this exact faucet and used your instructions. I would like to add that I did not have to remove that little plastic retainer ring before removing the main cover. It was plastic and it was starting to break trying to break it loose. I just left it in place and took off the main cover and it worked fine. I thought this might help someone else. Your instructions were wonderful! Because of you, I was able to fix my sink myself.
I'm a female with zero plumbing skills. I was just able to do this in less than 20 minutes with your help. Thanks so much! Save me money hiring a plumber.
My retainer ring was different, it had a band to grip in the lower outside. But everything came off and went on in the same order as your demonstration. Had to change out a few more things since I had it open and available. Delta sells bathroom sink repair kits at Home Depot for about $16 and they contain all the plastic parts, washers, gaskets, and springs. Thanks.
I know the basics of repairing a leaky faucet, but never hurts to watch the video. Thanks a bunch.

Loved this video. I am full time caregiver to my partner so I don’t have a lot of free time. UA-cam has been wonderful for me bc he is not able to help. You got right to the point and give clear instructions. I am very glad I came across your page.
Thank you so much! The leaky sink at my house was driving me crazy, and one trip to Lowe’s and several times rewatching this video, and it’s back to normal! I have never touched plumbing in my life and you made it so easy
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I just fixed our faucet. One tip is to put the spring and gasket on a small Allen wrench and hold them with your fingers. Put the tip of the Allen wrench in the slot in the faucet and slide them down into place. Wide part of the spring facing the faucet with the gasket on top of the smaller portion of the spring. The long bar of a thin Allen wrench is what I pointed into the slot of the faucet, then slid the spring and gasket right into place.
I just want to say thank you very much for providing this information in your video. It cost me $6 for the kit and10 minutes ..... . No more licking no more dripping....I really appreciate your hard work thank you....
Great video. Went to Lowe's got the aftermarket rubber rings and new springs. Followed your video and in 10 minutes job was successfully done! Thank you so much.
Your video was so good - sometimes people go too fast or don't stop to explain little things that matter. You did a great job ! and best of all no more annoying leak for me ! Thanks !!
Thank you! After watching another video I had a mess, but watching your easy video made me see what the other video was missing and I was able to solve my problem......great service for people.
Great directions! I adapted your video to my Delta faucet with a chrome handle, rather than with the clear plastic ball handle, and I did it! Like a boss!
Thanks for this video, I bought the kit online after sending a photo of my faucet to Delta. They identified it as a 3614. It working fine now. Thanks again.
Highly recommend this video. Just replaced the 25 year old rubber seats on my Delta bathroom faucet using this video as a guide. The dripping faucet is now fixed. The only variation was the round external cap that one removes after taking off the knob, required use of a pipe wrench (I'm sure there is a better tool) to grip it at the base rather than being able to use a nut wrench to twist from the top. Suspect Delta updated the design to minimize damage when removing the cap.
I was literally brought to tears trying to do this part because I don't have a pipe wrench and the wrenches I was using were just not cutting it and kept slipping off despite gripping them with all the strength I could manage. Immense frustration, painful hands, mangled faucet, but this comment convinced me that I just need the right tool, thank you.
I fixed my faucet using a multi-tool as shown in this video. The “compression ring” was loose and tightening it less than a quarter turn resolved my issue. Thanks!
Hey nice helpful video…one tip to those who may have a slightly newer faucet. When you put the Death Star looking ball back into the faucet, put it back in so that the small long cut goes in the right where the little metal protrusion sticks into the opening & orientate the plastic coupling into the detent on the left. This will allow for it to rotate properly. When you put the faucet handle back on it will seem loose. Dont over tighten it and don’t worry. When you turn the water back on every thing will tighten back up. Don’t put the aerator back on until after testing bc a bunch of dark gunk will come out bc of the installation process.
Let's! GO! Here I am thinking I have to replace this, $6 on Amazon and having my 16yr old son help so he starts learning home repairs too and boom... Fixed faucet. Thank you my man!
Thank you, Maintenance Man. Much appreciate your video that helped me fix my faucet so very quickly. When my wife asked with great excitement "How did you do that and do it so well in such a short time?" I said "I watched a video" She was mad that I did not give an educational reply. I had to add "I don't have the lingo to elaborate."
@@TheMaintenanceMan Hey there, great video, easy to follow with very concise instructions. And I followed them to the letter but I must have dropped the ball somewhere because after I replaced the washers and springs and re-assembled the faucet, it seems to leak even worse than before. Is there a certain orientation that the ball must align to? I've got it with the diamond points at north-south like in your video and I even tried reversing it 180° and it's still leaking. Is it possible that the valve ball might have worn down enough that it doesn't seal properly? Unless you have a hail mary insta-fix I guess my next step will be getting the full repair kit with the valve ball instead of just the washers and gaskets. I'll be subscribing and checking out your other videos once I've taken care of this issue. Thanks again.
I think that’s your next logical step too. You could try to give more tension to the inner plastic ring as that’s the thing that makes the pressure that seals the ball against the seats. But if that doesn’t work or if it’s already as tight as it’s going to go you’re next step it definitely to replace the guts all together. Let me know if you have any more issues and I’ll try to help.
You said in one of your replies that you always scratch the aerator when removing it, try wrapping some electrical tape around it, works for me. Good video, concise and to the point.
Hey there, thank you so much for the walkthrough video. The ball and piece that has the notch in it won’t sit down on the gaskets properly and keeps popping out. Do you know what may be causing this?
The springs on under the seals keep pushing it out. Make sure the tension ring is installed correctly. It’s what keeps the seals tight and the ball in place.
I just did it!!! The tip on using an Allen wrench worked great, and it took maybe 15 minutes. I was trying to get the rubber caps to fit down into the holes, but soon realized that the ball thing will push them down naturally and form the seal. That was the only issue I had, but that was my error.
Excellent video! I found this after my first attempt at fixing my faucet (it was still leaking). Didn't realize there were springs and gaskets that needed to be replaced too... they came with the replacement cartridge but it wasn't obvious where they fit so I left them in the package.
I think I can now do this with my eyes shut thanks to your video! I do come give it a watch when it's been awhile (like tonight) 12 minutes, start to finish :) Thanks!
Thank you for your video. One note I wanted to mention. I was unable to remove my bonnet nut with my channel locks. I found that a 32mm deep socket would fit the top the bonnet. Most sockets have a progressive slope at the entrance which makes it difficult to engage the shallow bonnet nut. Using a hacksaw I trimmed about a quarter inch off the opening of the 32mm socket. This allowed the entrance of the socket to be flat and fit the bonnet perfectly. I was able to remove the nut easily with my ratchet. Hope this helps someone else.
I've had a leaky faucet for years. It only leaked when it was left in hot or cold position so I tolerated it and made sure it was always left in the middle. SWMBO always felt the need to leave it anywhere but center. At $75.00 per visit with 2/10 homeownwers insurance, this fix should cost less than $10.00. I dreaded calling them so I kept putting it off. Now I'm so glad I did. With your video, I'll fix it tomorrow by myself. Thanks.
Thank you a million% you don’t realize how much I appreciated your video!!!! Best advice was bang/shock the big retainer ring!!!!! I was about to lose my mind 😁
Great Video! I just greased all my faucets today as they can get tight after use for awhile. Do it every 6-8 months. I grease the ball especially around the stem which protudes and connects to the handle. It improves the play and makes the faucet feel like new. After maintaining these faucets the first time i never take off the plastic O-ring. I just take off head with an adjustable wrench. Also when putting the head back on just tighten with hand and then go a 1/4 inch with your wrench. You will be happy you did this the next time your maintaining this faucet. Cheers!!
Bro I came here to fix my faucet but didn’t realize I’d leave this video in love with the hot dad talking and now knowing how to fix my leaky faucet… thanks!
great video. I would recommend putting a washcloth or some TP over the drain so you do not drop any of those small parts in the sink and lose them down the drain.
Thank you. I ran into a problem with the retaining ring you used your channel locks on. I did not have the hex head on the top. I have a ridge area on the bottom of the retaining dome. My channel locks could not budge it. As it’s Sunday afternoon and stores are closed I said try something else. I put the tension ring back on and put slightly more tension on the springs and it did the trick. No leak. I don’t know how long it will last but the wifey is happy. As an aside I see you did not close the sink stopper before you started.
Im not seeing a reply to this question. My retaining ring will not rotate with any wrench or pliers. I have soaked it with White Vinegar to reduce the crud, followed by WD-40 and it still won't loosen. What's the secret in getting it off?
The part you took of before the retainer ring is metal on my sink. How can I get it off it’s stuck after 25 years? I tried the way you did it and wd40 😩
You can use heat to get it off but unless you know how to safely or have done it before I don’t recommend doing it. Sounds like it might be time for a new faucet unfortunately.
Thank you... I've been ignoring and putting off a dripping faucet in a guest bathroom for about a year🤣😂 3 minutes after watching your video I tightened the ring and it stopped 👍. No new parts or anything. Thanks again
Nice video and cleared up a couple of questions for me. Thank you. Suggestion: when you're giving instructions is best to not use terms like "you kinda do this or you kinda do that" Either you do or you don't Telling someone you kinda do this sounds vague and implies it's not really important if you do or don't. In repairs some things are very important and should be presented that way.
Thanks for the help buddy I appreciate it. Mine was completely corroded out but I was able to find the parts and watching your video. Show me how to take everything apart and put it back together.
My Delta was slightly different from the one you demonstrated on, but it was close enough for me to figure it out (still a single handle). Shoulda taken it apart BEFORE I went to the hardware store so I could have gotten the right stuff the first time, but that's my bad. Thanks! Only took me about 15 minutes not counting the extra trip!
Yay! Exactly what I needed. The seats were visibly flattened and worn. I have rubber stains on my fingers from handling the old seats, but no more leak. The new seat and springs came with a set for a different style of Delta faucet. Don't know what to do with them.
thanks! I also followed some of the comments suggesting the use of plumbers grease, which I only used conservatively, making sure to not get any inside the inlet holes or the holes in the ball.. 20+ year old faucet works like new.
Excellent vid. I woulda tried to clean the scum inside the faucet. Good thing for your warning! Noticed that the undersink valves closed right up with no problem. I always find them stuck. Which is a whole different problem.
Thank you for the video. I found the parts at Hime Depot. They are Delta parts #RP77737G which came with two larger springs and two small springs ir RP4993G At least for that faucet you recorded. I happen to have exactly the same ones. It contains the two small springs and rubber grommets. Easy fix. Ten minutes. But without your video maybe a lot lot longer. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks again. Keep them coming.
It is a very nice video; I just followed it fixed my leaky delta style faucet yesterday. While I don't have the multi-tool as you used, instead I used a plier. However, the tip of the plier is too sharp, it didn't tight the plastic ring well and damaged it although I tightened the ring later with the same plier. Would you mind sharing the link you bought the multi-tool? Thanks, and appreciate it!
Hey, Dennis! I've done this several times before for smaller leaks, successfully. However my Mom's faucet is REALLY leaking "down through the faucet" also. She says her regular plumber told her sometime back that she needed a new faucet. Did you just not have things tightened properly, or did you need to have a new faucet? (Mom's plumber NEVER recommends new or unnecessary work and he retired so no info from him). Just wandering what I might be getting into - if you have a moment. Thanks!
Thank you for this easy to follow tutorial, I just fixed my leaky faucet!
Me too!
Way to go!

@Wowokissy that can be removed so you can get a better grip.

Yay! Exactly what I needed. The seats were visibly flattened and worn. I have rubber stains on my fingers from handling the old seats, but no more leak. The new seat and springs came with a set for a different style of Delta faucet. Don't know what to do with them.
Toss them unless you want to save them for a rainy day.
thanks! I also followed some of the comments suggesting the use of plumbers grease, which I only used conservatively, making sure to not get any inside the inlet holes or the holes in the ball.. 20+ year old faucet works like new.
Very Good job on EXPLAINING EVERYTHING. Its been a while since I’ve done one of these Blessed Be
This was very helpful. I appreciate you.
Excellent vid. I woulda tried to clean the scum inside the faucet. Good thing for your warning!
Noticed that the undersink valves closed right up with no problem. I always find them stuck. Which is a whole different problem.
correct... and it takes a plumber to resolve that separate problem
@@DougHinVA or just shut off the water main outside
Thank you for explaining the details such as which way the springs go back in. Mine flew out so I was worried I'd have to guess.
4 years later....thank you SOOOO much!!
Thank you for the video.
I found the parts at Hime Depot.
They are Delta parts
#RP77737G which came with two larger springs and two small springs ir RP4993G At least for that faucet you recorded.
Helped! Thank you for taking the time. I hope your subscriber count gets huge! You deserve it.

Thank you very much. I just subscribed your Chanel. You had saved me $150 dollars. Thank you again
Glad to help.
5 yrs later sir, THANK YOU!
You were a great help today thank you
Glad to hear the video helped
Thanks for a concise video. Just the info needed with no life-story attached. lol
Exactly. I can’t stand the therapy sessions either.
I followed this and my faucet leaked right through the body and into the cabinet beneath. So much for my handyman skills
Thanks!
Thank for the video. I need to do the same to my bathroom sink faucet.
You didn't list the part # you used in the description ...Delta Faucet part# RP77737 just in case someone wanted to know.
Thanks, great video, easy to follow and worked the very first time.
