13 years later and still my hero for posting this. I have used this as my repair manual every time I have to change a moen cartridge. (4 different faucets so far with enough time in between for me to forget the process) THANK YOU!
Hello elsagonzalez5004, You're welcome! I am glad the video helped! I generally take a refresher in most of the projects I tackle other than plumbing. For some reason the old brain doesn't remember like it use to. LOL CONGRATS on the repairs! Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your day! Al
Hello debbieestephan8479, Hopefully the repair goes well for you! I simply take the old one to the nearest hardware store and trade it in. Moen is a great manufacturer of faucets as far as I am concerned! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your holidays! Al
A little more than 7 years after you posted this, you've given me the courage to fix my own Moen bathroom faucet. Just as you described, super easy and the results are magic. I have a new faucet again. Water flows once more, and the push/pull is a lot easier than it was. Thank you!
Hello dwight, You're welcome! Congrats on the repair! Nice to have that behind you and a faucet working well! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
I just would like to Thank you, because i purchased the part yesterday and attacked this today. You're an AMAZING teacher because i changed it out and it was quick and easy{Headache Free}! The only thing that i was unsure about and didn't here you say, was if the water needed to be shut off to do this. Thank you for taking the time to create this video!
Thank heaven for folks like you who so generously share their knowledge! My 35 year-old Moen bath sink faucet (exactly like the model in your video) began dripping recently. As a 70-yr old woman unafraid of DYI projects, I ordered a new Moen faucet (similar style). Browsing UA-cam for installation demos, I came across this video and promptly ordered a cartridge on Amazon. It arrived today, and I got to work. My old Moen is working as good as new!! I am so pleased, I can't thank you enough!
Hello AdAstra-53, You're more than welcome! That's so great to hear! Congrats on the repair! I am a big Moen fan myself! Girl Power!!! Way to go! Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your week! Al
Great video! I watched another video where the guy wanted us to use what looked like an expensive cartridge remover attached to a drill. The drill was so rough that it broke the old cartridge and left pieces in the cartridge hole that had to be fished out. Your way was not only faster, but cleaner and less expensive. Using your technique by wiggling the included adapter tool, I easily extracted our 17-year-old cartridge and replaced it in three minutes. Thanks!
Hello Live Long & Prosper, You're welcome! I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair! Once you get the cartridge twisting back and forth you are all set. That is generally the hardest thing to do. Once that happens it is just a matter of pulling the cartridge out. I have heard of stories where people have stood on top of the countertops and tried pulling them out only to later find that the twisting motion was needed regardless of how much effort you put in trying to pull them out. I am not aware of a tool where a drill is attached to it. Sounds like serious overkill. Homedepot makes a knock off that is very cheap as compared to other manufacturers and it works well of really needed. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
mission accomplished- thanks one thing I would add (not sure if anyone has mentioned) is that after replacing the cartridge I had NO water flow at all. unscrewing the aerator revealed that a bunch of debris had clogged it when the old cartridge was removed . i cleaned the aerator and ran the water for a minute or two with no aerator before replacing it. everything is working great now. thanks again.
Hello sendtorich, Great point! Always good to remove any aerator from the spout after working on the faucet! Thanks for that input! Thanks for commenting and have a great weekend! Al
I was really lucky this was the first video that showed when I was doing my research. I must admit, I was not sure I was capable of replacing the cartridge until I saw your video. Thank you for posting your clear instructions and it gave me the confidence to do it myself. A big thank you! 👏👍
You tube is the best improvement to information flow for the DIY crowd. Hey oldkid888 you are still helping out THANK YOU. Turned what could have been a full afternoon project into a 10 minute fix with a ZERO cost on the replacement part. I will forever buy MOEN. Thanks to my Aubuchon store for replacing the part no questions asked!
I used this video today! The cartridge cost me $19.98. With the help of this video, I changed it in about 15 minutes. Probably saved me tons of money. If I did it, anyone can. Thank you!!!
Hello Martin Derbyshire, You're welcome! I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair! You definitely saved yourself some money! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
My sink faucet had been leaking forever. I had been procrastination calling a plumber. I decided to You Tube it to find out what kind of WASHER I needed :) THANKFULLY, I watched this video of yours and thankfully I e-mailed Moen directly to see if my cartridge was a free one. Well 1225B it was! Took a week to get here. I was thrilled. Never attempting any plumbing in my life, I was going to wait until plumber's regular hours before trying to change out this cartridge. I didn't want any after hours emergency call out charges. I threw caution to the wind tonight though and my leaky faucet is no more. My old cartridge took a lot of coaxing to remove and then the pin didn't want to slide in far enough so the sleeve could be put on but I had it repaired in about 20 minutes. One thing I would have missed if I had not seen it on a different video was to take the old metal washer thing off the old cartridge and put it on the new one. I might have assumed the new cartridge came with a new washer. Thanks to your easy-to-follow, awesome DIY, I don't have to try to find a plumber to marry. I can now try to hunt down a carpenter! LOVE your videos and I am now subscribed!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! You rock! I love lifetime replacements no plumber invoices in the mail!
Hello Panoptic Pieces A Chilly Pepper; I am glad you got a free cartridge. They are a very good company and have a great warranty. Take your time and you should be all set! Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
Exactly what I needed! The Black and Decker plumbing book didn't even come close to helping me know what to do. You had me on track in 3 minutes, and once I knew what to do, the repair took only a minute. Thanks!
I bought my home new in 1989 and the Moen faucets in the bathrooms were an upgrade that have lasted all this time. One in a sink started to leak this week and I figured I would need to install a new one until I found your video. Your instructions were perfect and it works like new...thankyou
+William Pollock (Jetala) You are more than welcome! I am glad everything worked out for well you! I saw them older than that and a simple cartridge repair does the trick as well. They are a very good product. Congrats on your repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Hello FN LN, You're welcome! I am sure videos such as this will be around for decades to come. Moen faucets are very popular. I hope the repair goes well for you! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Hello Moen How To; You are more the welcome! I am perhaps the biggest Moen fan on the planet! They have a great warranty and produce an excellent product as you probably know! Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
I can't thank you enough for posting this! This is exactly the faucet my wife has in her bathroom that has been leaking badly for over a year & I was scared to touch it until I saw how easy it was to fix it in your video. A $20 cartridge replacement vs a $??? Plumbing bill? No brainer thanks to you!
dude do you know how many people you have helped on this including me ? your the "real hero" in my book !! you just saved me money by not calling a plumber my bathroom faucet is exactly like that !
Fixed our faucet just like this one. With your instructions , it was easy. Of course I didn't tell my wife. Told her, it took me half the day trying to figure out. lol.
Thank you for this! Couldn't figure out how to get the cartridge out and didn't know about the clip at the top. The plumbing expert at Home Depot was off today so this video makes me confident I can go back and get the part and do this tomorrow. Plumbers are gods...
Hello Davina Wolf, You're welcome! You are looking for a 1225 Moen cartridge. I hope the repair goes well for you! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Your welcome. Glad I could help. That is the hardest part of changing the cartridge, but with a few turns of the white plastic tool that they supply; it usually makes the job a whole lot easier. good luck and have a good day.
Hello LewinBB; You are more then welcome! Sorry to hear about your situation, but it is great to a son who will help out when called upon. I seldom use the moen puller as the little plastic tool that comes with the new cartridge does a great job in loosening the cartridge and making it easy to remove. Best of luck with the repairs and enjoy your weekend! Al
Hi there. Thank you very much for the instructions on how to replace the cartridge for the Moen faucet. The demo was sharp and concise. It gave me the confidence to do it right. Thank you again. Take care and God bless
Hello Michele, You're more than welcome! Hopefully the repair goes well for you! If you have any other questions feel free to ask! Thanks for the kind words and have a great weekend! Al
OMG! Thank god i came across your video. I have the exact same faucet. I had no idea how to remove the cartridge. I sprayed it with vinegar and water like you suggested and I used the needle nose pliers to twist it and had to have my husband pull, but it came out in one piece. YEAH!! I had been working on this for hours. Thank you, thank you......
Hello samithegecko; You are very welcome! Glad it worked out for you! They sometimes come with a little stainless steel ring that fits around the end of the cartridge. I had removed it once and installed the handle and they still worked fine. Congrats on your repair and enjoy your day! Al
Hello Bethany Tallmon, You're welcome! I am glad the repair went well for you and in record time! Congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I've had my home for close to 30yrs and I think this will be the first time I've need to replace the cartridge in my Moen faucet! I wish other things could last so long.
+benger88 You are more than welcome! Hopefully it will go well for you! Moen does make a great product! I am probably their number one fan. Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
+philburpalooza8 You are more than welcome! Congrats on the repair! Glad you were able to make the repair! Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Great video. You cannot walk in to a hardware store in South Florida and get it for free. I purchased cartridge 1225 from Home Depot and have contacted Moen for a refund (fingers crossed). Love your short and to the point instructions. Only part we had to watch a couple of times was when you were installing the new cartridge and you said to line up the tabs, your hand was in the way, but we got it. And of course, the cold water came on the wrong side as you predicted it might and we immediately knew what to do. Thanks so much!
and...I am the original owner as it was a new house built 17 years ago. I don't have proof of purchase, other than my closing documents, hence why I stated fingers crossed.
Great Video, I just replaced mine, the olde cartage was very hard to remove and because of the Calcium build up the new cartage would not go in all the way, so I removed the water from the Faucet using a paper towel and filled the Faucet with Calcium & Rust remover, CLR, MOEN you are number one in my book, Thanks for this Video
Hello HEGUNSHOP, You're welcome! I am glad everything worked out for you! Great move on cleaning the faucet housing. That makes all the difference in the world. Congrats on the repair! I am a huge Moen fan myself. Been using them now for three decades plus and nothing else. Excellent product. I use to have a lot of faith in two other products, but manufacturing has changed and they are not even close to Moen. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Thank you for this!! I've seen others, but your tutorial is the only one with the most helpful tip at the end: how to switch cold/hot if they are reversed! No need to take it all out and start again! Appreciate it!! Now, off to do my shower faucet. :O
Hello G Buc, You are more than welcome! That is a little something that makes the repair easier for sure. A simple 180 degree turn and you are back to where you should be. Hot on the left. Cold on the right. I hope the repair goes well for you! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Thank you for posting this! I sailed through the whole thing except for pulling the old one out. That took a lot more muscle (and expletives) than your video! Minus the hard time I had pulling it and shutting off my hot water, it probably would have taken me 5 to 10 minutes. You Rock! Thanks again!
Hello NanCeeG, You are more than welcome! I am glad you got a long well with the repair and congrats on that! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Hello Warren; Glad I could help! I hope it continues to be leak free for you! It is usually the o-rings on the center part of the cartridge that are the problem! Thanks for commenting and congrats on the repair! Al
Thank you sir! You've made a difficult job very easy. Actually it took 3 hours and some penetrating oil and lots of tugging... but your videos made it possible and now it works great!
Hello mmoncur, You are more than welcome! The secret is to turn the cartridge before you actually try to pull it out. The little plastic tool works well quite often, but you can also use a pair of needle nose pliers or two screwdrivers to turn the cartridge. I made a video about just that if the plastic tool should fail. Congrats on the repair!!! Sorry it took you so long, but you got the job done which is the main thing. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
I’ve got 2 Moen bathroom faucets just like this and my kiddos have a hard time pulling them up to turn them on in their bathroom, and then in our bathroom I have the hardest time trying to quietly pull it up to turn it on and then it gets to a certain point and then pulls on full blast super loudly haha. This is probably cheaper than the 2 brand new faucets I purchased that would require cutting the pipe to fit and replacing the drain popup- a bit outside my comfort zone! Going to try this!
Thanks for the video! It gave me the confidence to attempt the repair! Wow, these were some old faucets...original to the home when built new in 1982, I believe....the Texas water really took a toll on them, but hey, they lasted for 35 years, so I'm not complaining! However, I am not the original homeowner, so I went to HD and purchased the replacement and installed it (not bad, about $22/each for the valve itself and it came with the plastic wrench thingie).....but a big mistake, too! Now my wife thinks I can replace/repair everything in the house...uh oh! :)
Hello Eddie, You're welcome! Sorry to hear the repair went so well for you! LOL! I would explain to her that it took you this long to find out how to repair the faucets ( throw your age at her in the conversation )...it will take me another ......(years) to repair something else. May help. LOL! Thanks for commenting and good luck with the Mrs! Al
Thanks. Just what I needed. My Moen was a M4600 which is a little different but your vid showed me enough stuff that it got me through the repair. Wish I had known, cause I would have fixed it long time ago. Mine wasn't leaking, it was just too stiff. So I used your vid to get it apart, lubed it and sanded the bbl with emery and voila!!! Thanks.
Thank you for an excellent video. My mother's faucet was leaking and I thought I would have to replace the whole unit. Now I see I can just replace the cartridge, much easier than I thought. The video was so well done, even I think I can do it! Thank you!
This video was extremely helpful! Thank you so much for posting. One issue that arose for me when completing this was the outer brass component of my original cartridge didn't come out with the rest when I removed it. It was lodged in the pipe. So I went to the hardware store and rented a moen cartridge remover for $2 and that worked like a charm to pull out the old brass cartridge. My new cartridge is plastic and went in like a charm. Thanks again!!!
Thank you very much for this wonderfully helpful video! I really appreciate you taking the time to help others (like me). :) And thank you VERY much for telling us that we can get the cartridges for free from Moen! You rock! Have a great day!
Hello joelronningen9930, You're more than welcome! It definitely helps to align the cartridge when putting it in place and removing it by twisting it back and forth depending before trying to pull it out. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
thank you, i have a leeky faucet that ruined our cabnets. Had spent about 2 hours trying to pull the thing out, thanks for telling me about the white thing
GREAT video. Covered everything I needed to do and loved the add-on at the end about changing the hot water from right side to left. I used that part also.. Thank you very much sir.
@fandbmgr2012 Hello there; if the cartridge you are removing is brass;you can have some major difficulties with it. Most Moen cartridges now are plastic.I have not had a lot of luck with removing the innner part of the cartridge when this happens. There is one way I would suggest and that could be using an easy out. It worked for me twice, but 1 other time I ended up changing the faucets. All I can do is wish you the best of luck and thanks for commenting. Al
Hello pbhonl, Nice! The clip can be a little tricky seeing it the first time. I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
@LJMurphman Hey Sir;Glad I could help. The white plastic tool is the answer in aiding the removal of the cartridge. Moen does guarantee the cartridge and I am happy you got your cartridge free. Awesome!!! Hope you get along with the project and enjoy your day!...Al
Hi Al! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!! You're a good teacher. I am not at all handy, and I just successfully replaced the cartridges in two leaky bathroom sinks in our new house with your guidance. I've got one more bathroom sink, and two shower cartridges to replace, and then we'll be leak free. :o) If that goes well, I may try to replace the rusty pipes under our bathroom sinks too. I really appreciate your time in making this video. I hope you have a great Christmas!
@AlisionIsUnreal Hello; It is possible to replace the cartridge without turning the water off to the building if it is a certain style shower faucet. Moen made a pressure balancing faucet a number of years ago and the faucet had 2 shut-offs on it. They were a common(straight) screwdriver shut-off. You would have to remove the handle, and then take 2 long screws that are a philips head(star) out to remove the round flange. You would see the shut-offs there and turn them clockwise to turn them off.
hey Steve ; Sorry for the late response. Had a few weeks vacation that was amazing! Glad you got along with the repair and everything is working for you! Thanks very much for your kind comments and enjoy your weekend! Al
I guess it's unlikely that you're still monitoring this video from 12 years ago (!), but hey, it's worth a shot. For some reason, the water from my bathroom faucet suddenly could not be completely shut down - when the lever was in the closed position (pushed fully down and centered), a small amount of water still continuously flowed - and not a drip, a small flowing stream. A plumber suggested that the (very old) cartridge might be at fault and that I try replacing it before going all-in for a new faucet. So I bought a replacement and installed it following the steps you describe. But the faucet still won't shut down completely, although in the course of replacing the cartridge, I did determine that the continuous flow of water was only happening when the lever was in the hot water position, to the left. When I moved it to the right side (cold water position), the faucet did completely shut down, and it also shut down when it was in the center position. Only when it was in the hot water position did the water not completely shut down. I cleaned off and examined all the components carefully before I reassembled the faucet mechanism and did not see any obvious breaks or damage to any of the pieces that might cause the water not to shut off in the hot water position, but I'm definitely no expert and wonder if you have any ideas on what might be causing this problem. I hate to toss something that is repairable, but at this point I don't know if it is. Gonna post on a few of the youtube videos that outline this procedure and see if any potential solution pops up, but I'm thinking it's time to go shopping, lol. Thanks for any help you might provide!
Hello AbsentWithoutLeaving, If you have the exact same situation after changing the cartridge it sounds like there could be a little wear in the faucet body itself. Before you do anything try turning the center piece of the cartridge 180 degrees. Simply remove the handle and you will see the brass piece in the center. A simple 180 degree turn is all that is needed. This should put the hot on the right side and the cold on the left side. If you still have the problem, but now it is leaking cold water it is definitely time to buy a new set of faucets. Get back to me once you have done this, it would be greatly appreciated....Al
I started to fix this but then went to lowes and they couldn't tell me what cartridge I needed then they sold me a piece of junk tool but that didn't work. I put it all back together and it no longer looks. I'm going to leave it to my landlord from now on. I'm just so use to quickly fix things but no more. Thanks for video it did help till the cartridge wouldn't come out.
Hello Terri, Good cal on leaving it for the landlord. They can be a difficult at times to remove, but they will come out easily once they are turned back and forth If you ever know of someone who is making the repair; the number of the cartridge is a 1225. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Great video help. Thanks for the tip about free cartridge. Called Moen and mine is on the way in the mail. Saved me the cost of the cartridge AND a trip to the store!
Hello bobh; You are more then welcome! Hopefully everything will work out for you and I hope you get along well with the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Hello Frank, That would be ideal! Good thinking on your part! Congrats on the install! Hopefully you will get years of service with no issues. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
@laurabenge Hello Laura; Thanks for the compliments and congrats on your repairs! Funny thing is that I still get a little nervous when it is just the camera and myself even though I have been doing this work for a long time. I made a few videos on replacing shower faucets as well and you should have no trouble with those repairs either. Great job!!! Thanks for commenting and best wishes to you and your family over the holidays!!! Al
Hello Grizzly Country, You're welcome! Nice! I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
@ShawnskiUWM hello; The brass cartridges can be a pain in the backside at times all depending on your water quality. I am glad the puller worked for you and I appreciate your comments. Thanks very mcuh and all the best in 2012!!! Al
My bathroom faucet is a Moen model CA84502 -- no longer made -- and looks similar to yours. I called the terrific Moen support line and they made sure I was getting the right cartridge for my leaky 14-year-old faucet. They shipped it to me for free, and of course the part was free too. (Part# 1225 -- but no "B" at the end.) It was a bit more of a struggle to pull out the old cartridge -- and Moen makes a tool to do that -- but I managed to remove it without needing the special puller tool. The other difference I noted is that there's a small metal washer around the top of the stem of the old cartridge -- that I replaced onto the new one. Outside of that minor detail, your video was extremely helpful and encouraging.
Hello yabits, Congrats on the repair! I am a huge Moen fan! They have a good warranty and are generally very helpful! Very good product! Congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Hello Eric, Turning the water off first is definitely the first thing to do. Big trouble if the cartridge is pulled out without it being turned off for sure. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
You don't have to rub it in, it took me about 3 hours today! Lol! That's the curse of my house, though. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong, but I won in the end.
@vickivickable Hello Vicki; An easy out is a tool that removes broken pieces of pipe in a fitting and turn into the pipe with a left hand thread. Are you sure it is the entire cartridge that you are turning and not just the centre piece.I have never been able to turn the cartridge freely when I was replacing it.If you removed the clip and placed the tool down over the cartridge;you must try turning it then.It sounds like just the centre piece to me that is moving. Thanks for commenting!G.L. Al
@Rakesh4502 Hey there; Glad I could help. Yes , this is a very common problem with this cartridge, but it is easily fixed with a 180 degree turn. I am glad it worked out for you. Thanks very much for your comments and have a great weekend!!! Al
Hello e8usn; Congrats on the repair! Glad everything worked out for you and yes needle nose will work as well. Too funny...I am making a video on just that procedure. I just got 2 old pair of Moen faucets. Thanks very much for commenting and have a great New Year! Al
Tip for making sure hot and cold are oriented properly prior to final cartridge installation: a small hole in brass portion closest to part that exits top of handle should be in the 12 o'clock position as cartridge is inserted. Look carefully at the cartridge and find this. Good luck, and don't forget a little extra silicone on the o-rings and even the retaining clip to aid in next removal.
Hello Steven, After you insert the cartridge you want to turn the brass so that the hole is positioned at the twelve o'clock position. That is a great tip! The silicone you are talking about just to be clear is "silicone lubricant". It will definitely help in the next removal! Thanks very much for the tips and have a great weekend! Al
Thanks for the vid. I couldn't get the cylinder far enough into the chamber so I used the plastic tool flanges butting them up against the cylinder flanges and then popping it in with a hammer. It was the only way I could get the retainer clip through the slot.
Hello Janet, You're more than welcome! I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on that! Strange it wouldn't go in further without that much force, but you did make it work out in the end. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Hello Tonemonster33; Glad I could help and you are more then welcome! Moen is probably the best faucet on the market in my opinion. They stand by their product! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
EXCELLENT video. Thank you. Mine was part "MO-3" - $14.00 The entire job took about 3 minutes - same length as your video. Wonder what a plumber would have charged. Thanks again....
Hello KellyKelz; You are more then welcome! I am glad it went well for you! Sounds like you have some bragging rights there. Don't rub it in too bad.... Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
@conehd Hello; Congrats on the repair. Glad to see it went well for you. Anytime just drop me a line if you need any advice. Thanks for commenting and have a good day!!! Al

Best instructions so far and you’re the only one that mentioned the moen cartridge is free.

Hello jackylin1680,
Thank you for the kind words!
Much appreciated!

Amen!!
Thanks!

mission accomplished- thanks
one thing I would add (not sure if anyone has mentioned) is that after replacing the cartridge I had NO water flow at all.
unscrewing the aerator revealed that a bunch of debris had clogged it when the old cartridge was removed .
i cleaned the aerator and ran the water for a minute or two with no aerator before replacing it.
everything is working great now. thanks again.
Hello sendtorich,
Great point!
Hello HL-gi5yj,

Glad everything went well and congrats on the repair!

Hello Martin Derbyshire,
You're welcome!
Hello Panoptic Pieces A Chilly Pepper;
I am glad you got a free cartridge. They are a very good company and have a great warranty.
Take your time and you should be all set!
Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
After changing both gaskets on the hot and cold valves, this video helped stop the slow leak on my faucet.
Hope all is well, thank you and God bless
Hello ede.5487,
You're more than welcome!
That is great to hear!
Congrats on the repair!
Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your week! Al
Exactly what I needed! The Black and Decker plumbing book didn't even come close to helping me know what to do. You had me on track in 3 minutes, and once I knew what to do, the repair took only a minute. Thanks!
Hello Patrick,
You're welcome!
I am glad the job went well for you!
Congrats on the repair!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
I bought my home new in 1989 and the Moen faucets in the bathrooms were an upgrade that have lasted all this time. One in a sink started to leak this week and I figured I would need to install a new one until I found your video. Your instructions were perfect and it works like new...thankyou
+William Pollock (Jetala)
You are more than welcome!
I am glad everything worked out for well you!
I saw them older than that and a simple cartridge repair does the trick as well. They are a very good product.
Congrats on your repair!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Thank goodness these older videos are on UA-cam, so I can fix my old faucet. Thanks!
Hello FN LN,
You're welcome!
I am sure videos such as this will be around for decades to come. Moen faucets are very popular.
I hope the repair goes well for you!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
I watched your video thank you for showing the proper way to change hot water to the left side. From retired Illinois plumber of 30 years!
Hello Moen How To;
You are more the welcome!
Hello rick2112rkrk;
You are more then welcome!
I am glad you got along with the repair!
Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
dude do you know how many people you have helped on this including me ?
your the "real hero" in my book !!
you just saved me money by not calling a plumber
my bathroom faucet is exactly like that !
WOW thanks .about time I found a video on how too fix a one knob Faucet .
Hello Davina Wolf,
You're welcome!
Hello LewinBB;
You are more then welcome!
Hello Michele,
You're more than welcome!
Hopefully the repair goes well for you!
If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
Thanks for the kind words and have a great weekend! Al
Great tutorial and saved me money. I did not have to call a plumber, but the plumbing supply charged me for the cartridge. Thanks, Saber
Hello Saber,
I am glad the project went well for you!
Congrats on the repair!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
Boy you saved the day, I watched this and changed all 3 bathrooms. thanks
Hello Bruno,
You're welcome!
I am glad everything worked out for you!
Congrats on the repairs!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Bought a cartridge at Lowes and replaced! Thanks to your vid it was easy peasy! Works great!
Hello brinnda70;
I am glad the repair went well for you!
Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Worked like a charm. Once I had the plastic tool this took literally three minutes. Thanks for this video, really saved my bacon.
You rock. I got home and there was chaos and despair. I found your video and all is well.
Hello samithegecko;
You are very welcome!
Glad it worked out for you!
They sometimes come with a little stainless steel ring that fits around the end of the cartridge. I had removed it once and installed the handle and they still worked fine.
Congrats on your repair and enjoy your day! Al
Thank you so much. Straightforward, quick video, easy to follow. Took me 8 minutes, including clean up.
Hello Bethany Tallmon,
You're welcome!

Hopefully it will go well for you!
Moen does make a great product! I am probably their number one fan.
Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al

You are more than welcome!
Hello HEGUNSHOP,
You're welcome!
I am glad everything worked out for you!
Al
I appreciate the tips in all your plumbing repair videos - they have been a nice resource for me.
Craig Kessler
I hope they help you out with any future projects!
UA-cam is a great resource for sure!
Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Thank you for this!! I've seen others, but your tutorial is the only one with the most helpful tip at the end: how to switch cold/hot if they are reversed! No need to take it all out and start again!
Appreciate it!! Now, off to do my shower faucet. :O
Hello G Buc,
You are more than welcome!
Hello NanCeeG,
You are more than welcome!
I am glad you got a long well with the repair and congrats on that!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
You just saved me a few bucks. In fact I took the old cartridge out and wiped it down with my fingers, then put it back in and the leak was gone.
Hello Warren;
Glad I could help!
Hello mmoncur,
You are more than welcome!
Hello Eddie,
You're welcome!
My Moen was a M4600 which is a little different
but your vid showed me enough stuff that it got me through the repair. Wish I had
known, cause I would have fixed it long time ago. Mine wasn't leaking, it was just
too stiff.
Same issue that faucet has been leaking for years. Quick 5 minute fix thank you so much it was a breeze.
Hello Unique377;
You are more then welcome!
I am glad you got along well with the repair!
Thanks for commenting and have a great day! Al
Thank you kindly! The little plastic tool that comes with the replacement makes all the difference.
Hello joelronningen9930,
You're more than welcome!
Thank you so much for posting. I fixed my leaky restroom faucet all on my own.
Hello Melissa,
You're welcome!
Congrats on the repair!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Thanks. I got it working. It was leaking. Without this tutorial, I wouldn't have got it done.
Al
I knew how to do this once upon a time but forgot. This worked perfectly! Thanks 🤩
Hello emach07,
You're welcome!
Glad to hear everything worked out for you!

Thank you for this and for creating such an amazing well detailed video! I am about to use this video to tackle my own faucet. Thank you!
I had trouble with the clip; thankfully I found your video and you solved my problem!
Hello pbhonl,
Nice!
The clip can be a little tricky seeing it the first time.
I am glad everything worked out for you!
Congrats on the repair!

Thank you! I got to taking out the metal clip and then was stuck. Much obliged. And indeed my replacement cartridge was free. Cheers!
Hello Jay Rod;
Just glad it worked out for you!
Thanks for commenting and enjoy our week!
You would see the shut-offs there and turn them clockwise to turn them off.
hey Steve ;
Sorry for the late response. Had a few weeks vacation that was amazing!
Glad you got along with the repair and everything is working for you!
Thanks very much for your kind comments and enjoy your weekend!

Hello AbsentWithoutLeaving,
If you have the exact same situation after changing the cartridge it sounds like there could be a little wear in the faucet body itself.
Hello Terri,
Good cal on leaving it for the landlord.
They can be a difficult at times to remove, but they will come out easily once they are turned back and forth
If you ever know of someone who is making the repair; the number of the cartridge is a 1225.
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Thanks so much. My new cartridge didn't slip right in so easily, but got it done and hot & cold were correct the first time

Thanks for commenting and best wishes to you and your family over the holidays!!!

My bathroom faucet is a Moen model CA84502 -- no longer made -- and looks similar to yours. I called the terrific Moen support line and they made sure I was getting the right cartridge for my leaky 14-year-old faucet. They shipped it to me for free, and of course the part was free too. (Part# 1225 -- but no "B" at the end.)
It was a bit more of a struggle to pull out the old cartridge -- and Moen makes a tool to do that -- but I managed to remove it without needing the special puller tool.
The other difference I noted is that there's a small metal washer around the top of the stem of the old cartridge -- that I replaced onto the new one. Outside of that minor detail, your video was extremely helpful and encouraging.
Hello yabits,
Congrats on the repair!
I am a huge Moen fan! They have a good warranty and are generally very helpful! Very good product!

Hey you just saved me $97. Thank you so much. I just wished I turn the water off first.lol
Hello Eric,
Turning the water off first is definitely the first thing to do. Big trouble if the cartridge is pulled out without it being turned off for sure.

Al
Hello e8usn;

Hello brsolutions2;
Glad you got it repaired and are now leak free!
Hello Steven,
After you insert the cartridge you want to turn the brass so that the hole is positioned at the twelve o'clock position.
Hello Janet,
You're more than welcome!
I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on that!
Strange it wouldn't go in further without that much force, but you did make it work out in the end.
