You can only do the best you can, no self-judging, it's about learning what works better as you go. Make sure you are taking care of yourself physically (eat, exercise, sleep), which leads to good mental health so that you can handle the new changes you have taken on. Talk to others who have gone through this, and remember to laugh! My autistic son Ty gave us some crazy violent, dangerous moments as a teenager, but laughter and being in good physical shape helped me survive it. Good luck!!!

Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to seeing the next page in your family's life. I'm around your age, early 50's and we all come full circle, at the beginning of our lives we needed the attention and constant care from our parents...........and now our parents will need a level of care for the last page in their life's story.

Yes it's part of the journey, theirs and ours. Next week will probably be another one of these if I can get the time !

Thanks buddy. It's just life. Hope that video wasn't too bleak I didn't actually have time to watch it I just filmed and uploaded... Things are are things, or as that catchy jingle by a bunch of guys nailed to crosses goes 'always look on the bright side, of life'

Wow, what you’re going through is one of the hardest things in life. Raising children is hard enough, caring for a parent with dementia at the same time….I cannot imagine the stress. Will it be difficult to get him into a dementia care facility where you live? I will be watching your channel for updates. I’m hoping it gets easier for you.

@@BeeboeLaing Thank you for the support. I'm working on getting him into a home but it's going to take awhile as we need to redo his health evaluation and medical history in the French system... we're working on it but it will likely take a few months. I'm really hoping he's well enough to be with us through Christmas so we'll see... Things are getting better I'll have an update soon(ish) if I can find the time !

Thank you for sharing, as a 40 something resident of France, I think about the possibility of needing to bring over a parent or 2 at some point. Can you talk about what lead you to bring him over at this point? Good luck to you, sounds like he needs more care than you realized. Take care of yourself during this transition.

Oops. I see this is the second video of the series. I’ll leave my comment above though. Thanks again for this. I hope his confusion improves. This is so hard. I feel like it’ll be my fate as well, and I haven’t seen this topic discussed on UA-cam.

Hi, thanks for the comments. I haven't seen this on UA-cam either at least not in a personal way but alot of the time i post videos like this because it helps me kind of think through or air out whats going on. I don't have "5 tips for dealing with elderly parents" but i do have my experiences. It's hard but it's life, sometimes life is hard, that's about all I've got for now but I'll be back when things have moved along a bit.

@@HippocraticHustle hi, my advice is to prepare super early and get long stay visas for your parents ahead of time (it's valid 2 years) With this visa they could be eligible for the French health care system which makes everything easier and cheaper. My dad had to come too quickly so he's on a tourist visa and may have to stick with private insurance which is super expensive, a pain to use and complicates entry into state run retirement homes...
