It's really hard sometimes. I gave 10 years of my life to serving this country. I deployed 5 times. I have lost friends and some few who were truly brothers. The best man in my wedding went down in front of me and I made sure his parents had someone to bury and brought him home. We struggle. We fight. Sometimes, we win. Sometimes, we lose. When we do lose, it's more damaging to the world around us than us suffering in silence and so we do. I just lost my nephew 3 weeks ago due to suicide. He was in the Army stationed in Colorado. 21 years old. I watched this video before, but it hit me hard this time.
They are one of my most favorite bands, ever, my father was 82 Airborne in V.N. I appreciate their music, for this, I see how easily I could've lost him, he came home without a scratch. I appreciate ya Knox !!
At the end, he is wearing the 3 black wrist bands. Those represent the 3 friends he lost. The soldiers that saw him get out of the hummer then knew what he has been through.
As always a brilliant review. Knox...don't stop being a UA-cam creator and a hip hop artist. Many artist would also benefit from using you in production, marketing etc. Props always💙
so i cant remember off the top of my head but im pretty sure none of them have served but i do know that the main guy that sings teaches, or did teach martial arts for the army and Marines too i think. but theyre very close with the military and are huge supporters.
5FDP has always and still does support our troops and veterens. They are probably the band that does the most for them. Free concerts, hella meet and greets, they're badazz.
This was such a beautiful cover of this song originally from The Offspring and just like Falling in Reverse covering Last Resort it gives the song and lyrics new meaning. Love your reactions and analysis. Five Finger Death Punch cares a lot about the veterans and their struggles and even donates some of their proceeds to veteran organizations to try and help out. Massive respect for this band. You should check out Wash it all away or Jekkyl and Hyde from them sometime.
I didn't get to witness the destruction as I had taken over my post at 5:30am WST. It happened around 5:47ish & what WAS a 4hr post became 6. Then I got to see the video's of the towers falling. Thanks for reacting to this Knox... it means more than you know. Semper
this is a cover? i could have sworn they covered another offspring song. tbf i have listened to over 2k+ songs and counting so i'm gonna forget trivia like this
@CrazyGamebino yes, this is a cover. I grew up on The Offspring and this was one of my favorite tracks from them, especially after my dad died. This is, imo, hack-y. It sounds tired and bored compared to Dexter Holland (who wrote it) shouting like his heart was just torn out. The driving force here is the video itself.
@@warbringer11128 oh ABSOLUTELY! I love FFDP. My friend recently watched the footage of their concert where they stopped the concert to break up a fight and would restart until the guy was okay. She was blown away. I already knew how amazing.
As a soldier it really means a lot when reactors do these songs and talk about the struggles that many people don't even acknowledge that we go through. Survivors guilt is hard and hits a lot of us. As they say no one comes back from war intact, some wounds are just invisible.
You breaking down all these songs the way you do to find the deeper meaning reminds me of my mother (she was one of the best things in my life before she passed away in 2006 so you have my upmost respect). She would sit with me and breakdown the meaning of lyrics growing up. I miss it soooooo much but have tried to do the same with my boys (mom of 2 boys who are now adults). Thank you so much for every lyrical breakdown you do. ❤❤❤❤
This video/song always brings me RIGHT back to 9/11, the moment I woke up in my apartment in Boston, turning on the TV before the 2nd plane had hit and thinking I was watching a movie that was somehow on every network. My best friend to this day since High School called me, but was just in silence, and came over and we sat there watching in horror at 19 years old. The next morning we drove to my grandfathers navy base that he was the former commander of, and were the first in a LONG line of people there for the Marines and Air Force recruitment office. My best friend did 8 years in the Marines starting that day, over seas...and this damn video brings me to tears every damn time still because of all the shit that happened. These guys are great artists, this is a great breakdown. Thanks Knox.
When i grew up and the offspring came out with far away it was emotional. In the late 90s and early 2000s us teens were dealing with heavy bulling and suicides. They hit a heart string for us then. Now five finger death punch sings to the same teens as adults. They twist the words ( in a respectful yet grim way) to reflect the soldiers who survived being young and thrown into war to feel the same pain of loss again. Living and losing in both frames of time i cant compare the two songs... But i do know the emotion is still there and both bands convey the sadness and loss very well qnd niether does a disservice. Here is to those i lost growing up the ones no one saved but they called weird and turned their backs, and heres to the ones who survived that pain and grew up only to lose their lives protecting the everyone even the ones who bullied and took lives from us here at home. The narratives may be different between the singers but the message is universal. Thank you all military personnel for protecting us and thank you offspring for honoring the ones lost before there time...if not for bands like you or five finger death punch, id be gone before my time as well.
Dude. Your reactions are top notch. I'm a army vet, heard that ringing, still do. This cover is really really good. And the vet angle that ffdp likes to bring just reminds me that they care.
Please do Coming down and wrong side of heaven. Definitely recommend. These guys are absolutely amazing live. Ivan had noticed an clothed military symbols flag in the audience. He stopped and asked for it. He waved it around several times and told the male who owned it everyone in the band would sign it and give it back to him. Later Ivan brought up like 8 children on the stage to sing with him. He gave each of them something from the stage.
I love watching your reactions man, you have a real insight into music that other reaction channels don't, I also enjoy your music at times. Keep doing what your doing man. Thank you to your family for your Grandfather's sacrifice.
Hey Knox, my dad didn't go over to Vietnam, but he served during then. Even now, when I ask him about his service, he'll say. "I lost a lot of my buddies over there. From high school or people I met in the service." Being in the service myself. It is a pain and something you'll never forget. But the people you lose to service I find is something to treasure. Treasure the time with them. Treasure the memories you have had with them. Treasure their families that they have. Treasure the courage they have. Treasure the love they gave. Treasure their desires for the better future that they believed in. That's all.❤
2 members of the band are servicemen. As a veteran myself who has been on deployment, unfortunately this video is extremely accurate. I have been fighting my demons since 2003/2004. I have tried self medication! I half sat by myself in my floor, back to the wall for almost 3 full days with several bottles of Jack Daniels and a pistol next to me! It's one thing when you have alot of family and friends waiting for you when you come home! I had an empty airport at 2am and nobody! The things you see and do never go away. They stay with you. They are with you every time you close your eye's. I haven't had a full night's sleep in 20 years. This is as real as it gets!
I love it when you post, bro! This is a really great rock band! Much love Knox Hill! Also this is a really great rock band with all the members being military veterans
An excellent cover, and 5FDP managed to absolutely capture the raging grief and despair the song was written with but I've always connected more strongly with the original. Something about Dexter's delivery is just so iconic and raw. Also would absolutely love to see you react to Bliss N Eso. They're an Australian rap group but they don't tend to go in for the more violent/grandstanding wannabe gangster rap that really lets down some of the other biggest artists that otherwise dominate the genre. In particular I think any one out of Reflections, Home Is Where The Heart Is, or Addicted would be great to see.
This song makes me cry every time! This hits me so hard, I feel for what’s going on in this video because my husband is a veteran and things that these people and my husband have seen and gone through is absolutely heartbreaking and maybe this isn’t a good time to say what I’m feeling, but I can’t help but thinking about and missing my son that passed at only 19 years old in a car accident 😢 I would trade places with my son at that moment this happened and he lost his last breath if I could! Wow this song really touches me deeply. Knox, you are so talented and a true legend! The way you break every single verse down in all your videos really is impressive and brings more light and meaning to every single song you do. 💜 Much Love Knox❤
One of my favorite bands, as is The Offspring. Thanks for giving them the time! Everyone reacts to Wrong Side Of Heaven, which is an amazing song, but one of my favorite FFDP songs is I Apologize.
I agree. I won't say it's a bad cover because they were going for a very specific theme with it and the slower tempo overall fits what they wanted really well. They didn't steal the song like Cash did with Hurt or anything like that though.
My best friend in high school and I used to listen to The Offspring. When I left for the USMC he killed himself, and everytime I hear "Gone Away" it brings it all back. Thank you 5FDP for the great tribute to a great song.😢
Im so sorry to hear about your grandpa❤I lost my grandfather 2 years ago to lung cancer. His death will always impact my daily life forever, I will never get over his death. I remember the last time I ever saw him....the last time I held his hand...the last time I told him I loved him...he was on hospice in his home. My parents and I went over to my grandparents house to go visit/say goodbye to my papa, I was the only one who ever called him papa. Anyways I just held his hand and told him I loved him as we were leaving, I knew that would be the last time. And I was NEVER, EVER..gonna see him again, the pain was unlike anything I've ever felt before.....he passed away the next morning at 4:05 AM, him and my grandmother had a talk a long time ago, that "if we can only be remembered with tears, then we dont wanna be remembered at all. I dont know about the rest of my family, but at least with me, he can only be remembered with tears at the moment❤I just hope he's not looking down on me and is upset with me for crying for him, Every day i cry and think about him..and I look up and I say.."Im sorry to be crying for you..I just miss you and it fucking hurts like hell knowing he's gone forever..I love you papa dale❤❤❤❤ FOREVER AND ALWAYS
“Once life is over, you can’t get it back” hit hard. It sounds like a simple concept but it’s not as that easy. As a dude going through divorce and despair, this line is helping me bring me out of my self-destructive behavior caused by grief and shame or failure. Gotta lace up my boots and get my shit together for my 4 children … and myself. Heaven isn’t as far away as we all may think it is
The original by offspring is amazing, but this iteration always makes me tear up. I think the fact i can fully hear everyword it hits hard. I remember the original and not really understanding the lyrics because i only heard it on my crappy car radio.
I know it probably won't get as many requests but a song by them that really helped me through tough times was "ashes" from their "way of the fist" album
It's particularly heartbreaking for the soldier that survived because he was point on the patrol, and scanning for I.E.D.s is one of his tasks. It's not just survivor's guilt, there's the thought "maybe they'd still be alive if I had actually caught that one". I see the ending as his commitment to bring the next squad home alive, and to wear the tags as a reminder of what the risks are.
Back in 2011 i played in a guild in world of warcraft. we had spent more then 5 years together. One of our dear friends lost his fight with depression. The survivors guilt from all his tours was just too much. I miss you everyday brother. Rest in peace Sean
6:44 The towers being hit was one of the reasons why I joined the Marines. I was in 10th grade at the time, so I had to wait a couple years to join up.
8:13 One think you NEVER do in a combat zone is remove your helmet. Odds are the IED was a distraction to get the convoy to stop, and then a group of militants would surround it and pick everyone off. Taking off your helmet is like asking to get shot in the head. If you're burning, if you're bleeding, if you're shellshocked or concussed, you leave your armor on and you get the f**k behind cover. You do that and maybe, just maybe, you survive.
8:50 Dude. I get that. When you're the only one who survived, you feel like you're betraying your brothers by leaving them behind and moving on. And that feeling only gets stronger with time. And so you seek to correct it by joining them... To right the perceived wrong that fate had dealt you. 'I should have been there with them', 'I should have died with them', 'I shouldn't be here living my life when they're not able to', ... 'I have to join them to set things right'.
I didn't even think about it the first few times I watched this but seeing it again, you can understand why the sole survivor felt so much guilt in this situation. He was on point leading the convoy, to watch for any possible IEDs or explosives they could run over and he didn't see the one that ended up blowing up his buddies. So he would most likely be blaming himself for their deaths seeing as it was his job to spot any potential threats and he missed the one that killed his squad. Side note, I love your reactions Knox, keep up the great work. If you are looking for some more songs to react to, I might have a few. I am not sure if you have reacted to them or not but I would recommend Poets of the Fall. They seem to be a band that kinda flies under the radar but those that love their music would swear by them. Two songs really come to mind by them and that would be "Carnival of Rust" and "Lift".
Love it Knox. Keep going down the metal path especially FFDP. This one is never easy for me, hits directly in the heart. Oddly I can never turn away from this song, even though it brings me back to the worst day of my life every time. Thank you!
Sometimes an artist covers a song in such a way that they make it their own. And in doing so they make an entirely new song. Some examples would be Disturbed's "Land of Confusion," Seether's "Careless Whisper," and all the different versions of "Mad World." It's like painting the Mona Lisa in blood. It conveys the same art from a different perspective.
This situation is almost the exact for a bro of mine. IED took out the convoy and he was only one left, wounded. He would trade place. He was a medic and it took years for him to come to grips.
One of the more powerful video-song combos out there. Enjoyed the review as usual..... 😀 Thanks for sharing about your family. Interesting how we all have a way to relate the topic to our own lives.
Love you breaking down some five finger... thanks Knox, you the man. I deal with survival guilt every day. I feel his pain. Why my friends had to die in a useless war... 😢😖😡😫

@@CourageGraceandKickintheAss hey, thanks. I appreciate that. Meant a lot to me. I think the more difficult issue is the friend I lost after we got back. He overdoses on valentines day. When I was at war, my training made me fight for my brother's and sisters in uniform, but when we came back, it was always talk about how we fought for nothing. And to lose him after fighting a year together to keep one another alive hurts... every day I wonder why I made it back and they didn't. I wonder why he made it home only to be killed by the pain and agony of fighting for nothing. I don't know why I'm spilling this out to a stranger, but I miss my friends... RIP Conner.

this song makes me think of both of my grandfathers because I had a should have been fatal brain injury when I was 16 but had almost full recovery after 2 months and I went to see them after I was released from the hospital and they both passed away the night I visited them, I have such bad survivors guilt because I feel like they gave up what life they had left so I would survive
This a great cover. But The Offsprings version hits harder for me. It's a beautifully devastating song about loss. Shoutout to you for doing this Knox and shoutout to The Offspring and FFDP. ❤
Most bases have cemeteries like that the main one is Arlington though. I did 21 years active duty and most bases I’ve been to we would run to the cemeteries during PT in the morning
I'm a little late to this Knox, but I was on active duty in 2001. I was in the quick reaction force for the west coast at the time. I was 23 years old, and I will never ever forget the anger, despair, and rage during that time. I have never seen a group of young men with such bloodlust. We wanted a fight. We wanted to turn the world into a glass parking lot. Now that I'm 45, I understand the range of emotions that we went through...and perhaps, just perhaps, that anger was directed in the wrong direction.

I have a lot of family and friends who have served from WW2 to 9/11. not sure if your grandmother is still here with you guys, Knox, but the last of our grandparents is my wife’s grandmother, who is also a WW2 vet and is 102. she has just now started showing signs of slipping and they don’t think she’ll be here come the holidays.
I just lost my nephew 3 weeks ago due to suicide. He was in the Army stationed in Colorado. 21 years old. I watched this video before, but it hit me hard this time.
I'm so sorry for your loss. ❤
This song always reminds me on one of my comrades who got killed by an explosion in an ammunition-storage in 2019
RIP Adjudant Major Luc Derneden
They are one of my most favorite bands, ever, my father was 82 Airborne in V.N. I appreciate their music, for this, I see how easily I could've lost him, he came home without a scratch. I appreciate ya Knox !!
One of the best cover songs and one of the best reaction videos I've watched. 100% all around.
I love this group a lot. His voice is so unique
I’m sorry to hear about your Grandfather! 😔 This video is heart wrenching! Great reaction! You ALWAYS get the actual meanings of the songs! 👍🏻🇺🇸❤️
Semper
I loved the original when The Offspring did it, but I love this one even more.
this is a cover? i could have sworn they covered another offspring song. tbf i have listened to over 2k+ songs and counting so i'm gonna forget trivia like this
@CrazyGamebino yes, this is a cover. I grew up on The Offspring and this was one of my favorite tracks from them, especially after my dad died.
This is, imo, hack-y. It sounds tired and bored compared to Dexter Holland (who wrote it) shouting like his heart was just torn out. The driving force here is the video itself.
@@GhostWatcher2024 it sounds like sorrow and pain with a very somber tone. I think they handled the song perfectly
imo this is one of the best cover songs ever done
Hadnt heard this version before but it just brought a 40+ year old father of 2 daughters to tears! Thanks for sharing/reacting to this!
That ringing at the begining is tinitus. It can stay with a person for life. A perm ringing that is always there to remind you of the hard times.
That's all.❤
This is why I love and support Five Finger Death Punch, they would do anything for the Armed Forces, Vets, and First Responders
Another excellent reaction. Nobody in the band served in the military, but they have done a lot for military causes, and gone on USO tours overseas.
I hope you do coming down by five finger death punch its one of my favorites.
Much Love Knox❤
For me, This song is dedicated to my 1st born son who died from sepsis at 19 days old. I’ll never not cry to this song.
One of my favorite bands, as is The Offspring. Thanks for giving them the time! Everyone reacts to Wrong Side Of Heaven, which is an amazing song, but one of my favorite FFDP songs is I Apologize.
This song still hits hard, it was my brother’s funeral song as he was a avid 5FDP Fan as am I.
song is originally by The Offspring, great song, decent cover
I actually prefer the cover, but absolutely agree on the great song part.
I was just about to say this
I agree. I won't say it's a bad cover because they were going for a very specific theme with it and the slower tempo overall fits what they wanted really well. They didn't steal the song like Cash did with Hurt or anything like that though.
It's always good to say the original performer. Good on you.
I’d actually say decent song, great cover.
This version is amazing. The original though, holds half my heart. Amazing reaction as usual Knox
I'm starting to feel old already knowing the original.😮. But KnoxHill, you have now made it better breaking it down. AMAZING COVER BTW!!!!
Heaven isn’t as far away as we all may think it is
Much love and appreciation from Kentucky ❤️🙏❤️
One of the greatest rock covers.
They do a pretty good job of showing how PTSD can feel. This song is one of a few that make me cry every time
As a disabled veteran this song and wrong side of heaven absolutely brake me. Thank you for bring this to life
It's particularly heartbreaking for the soldier that survived because he was point on the patrol, and scanning for I.E.D.s is one of his tasks. It's not just survivor's guilt, there's the thought "maybe they'd still be alive if I had actually caught that one".
I see the ending as his commitment to bring the next squad home alive, and to wear the tags as a reminder of what the risks are.
One of the best covers of my generation..
9:14 Yup. And going back out there. Seeking death. Seeking to die on the same land as your brothers. To get as close as you can.
Hey Knox, thx for the reaction bro. Not a vet myself, but I love ffdp and they’re music.
Thank you!
Their videos are tough to get through. So good! Thanks for the breakdown, Knox!
"OH please, let me trade! I would!"
Gets me everytime. 😢
It's one of the hardest to feel and deal with.
I'm Sorry our Gov Chooses to do this $hit and What they choose Not to do when y'all get out and come back home.
In my experience that's when the Biggest Battles Start.
My Patriotism and ♥️ Stands with Our Soldiers and Vets.
Thank you for What you and your boys did when You stepped up. Y'all Did Right and We Appreciate The H3LL Out of All of you.
I work with Various Vets Groups, for Me they're Beyond Worth it.
Much ♥️ to you.
RIP Conner.
they make some really great music. but they know how to hit ALL the feels with their music videos...
Love 5FDP, loved The Offspring’s original track. But this video is all I can see when I listen to this song. And their other song Wrong side of Heaven. Too many memories tied up in that war
Absolutely love your break downs! Been watching your channel for a while, I have gotten a lot more insight to the music and lyrics!
Thank you! Keep up the good work!
Idk about the other members but Ivan, the lead singer, was a marine which I believe is why a lot of his songs or videos are military related
IMO, FFDP did for Gone Away what Johnny Cash did for Hurt.
The offspring should get the full bow. But 5 finger literally gave this song great honor. I wonder if he has or ever will do Caroline spine
Mrs Sullivan that was the one. Please do that one brother. Please b
This is actually a cover of The Offspring. Love both versions, but this one hits so much harder! Love your reactions. You def gta check out the Ice Nine Kills 5 part my guy...I think you will be blown away from the music, lyrics, story line and the video production as well! ❤
this song makes me think of both of my grandfathers because I had a should have been fatal brain injury when I was 16 but had almost full recovery after 2 months and I went to see them after I was released from the hospital and they both passed away the night I visited them, I have such bad survivors guilt because I feel like they gave up what life they had left so I would survive
I've grown up with The Offspring's version and loved it. When ffdp did this cover and dedicated it to Chester, it hits different
This a great cover. But The Offsprings version hits harder for me. It's a beautifully devastating song about loss. Shoutout to you for doing this Knox and shoutout to The Offspring and FFDP. ❤
Honestly this is one of my favorite covers they have done, it's so good and just flawless
great band great song love the reaction knox, sorry to hear about grandfather but he was a hero
Please please please do more five finger death punch. They are so amazing. You will love there music. Check out tragic truth and coming down
Most bases have cemeteries like that the main one is Arlington though. I did 21 years active duty and most bases I’ve been to we would run to the cemeteries during PT in the morning
I feel like the FFDP loses the raw emotion that the Offspring version has. You can hear the pain in Dexter from the Offsprings voice. So powerful
This song and video always gets me
