Looking out the window
I see the red dust clear
High up on the red rock
Stands the shadow with the spear
The land here is strong
Strong beneath my feet
it feeds on the blood
it feeds on the heat
The rhythm is below me
The rhythm of the heat
The rhythm is around me
The rhythm has control
The rhythm is inside me
The rhythm has my soul
The rhythm of the heat
The rhythm of the heat
The rhythm of the heat
The rhythm of the heat
Drawn across the plainland
To the place that is higher
Drawn into the circle
That dances round the fire
We spit into out hands
And breathe across the palms
Raising them up high
Help open to the sun
Self-conscious, uncertain
I'm showered with the dust
The spirit enter into me
And I submit to trust
Smash the radio
No outside voices here
Smash the watch
Cannot tear the day to shreds
Smash the camera
Cannot steal away the spirits
The rhythm is around me
The rhythm has control
The rhythm is inside me
The rhythm has my soul
First time seeing Peter was in San Francisco in December of 1982. I had two tickets, one for me and one for my cousin. She was my ride to the show and backed out the day of the show. I hitch hiked from Sacramento to San Francisco with two rides and a BART trip to the civic center. I sold my second ticket for face value not aware the concert was sold out. I had been a huge Genesis fan before and missed the chance to see him with them. My seat was just left of center in the first row of the second section on the floor. He came in from the back of the auditorium as the other members of the band all played drums on the stage. I was amazed he choose to walk the floor and be in contact with the audience. Later he crowd surfed and was passed around to nearly the center of the halfway of the auditorium floor before being guided back and up on to the stage. It was an event that shaped my belief in humankind and our abilities to work together to hold an ideal up. There were no accident round here. I still have the shirt I purchased with the money I got for the second ticket. It has the wrong year on it and states PLAYTIME. The shirts black and white cut at an angle. I skipped the sales table at the front door and went up to the balcony and got the very last one. The guy selling me the shirt said it was the most popular on the tour. I have never seen another.
What a *powerful* song this is. From the very start....right to the end. Building....and building....and building....up to it's climax. *Great performance by Peter Gabriel & his band.* This is music for grown ups.
😂🪘😂🎊🎉
And whoever witness this knows that the band walked in from the back of the auditorium with drums.. passed right by our seats..
Fantastic start to a concert...probably the most original I’ve ever experienced..a very clever musician and showman...
Ah…they did! ✌️
In the 80s...... This man is a Visionary. A true artist in every sense of the word.
Masterpiece.
Two drummers is why the beat kicks ass! Awesome cd.
This very song marks the moment of my musical awakening or even birth. It was first week in a new school and I had just turned thirteen. One of my teachers put this on a record player in class. After I rode in to town bought it.
Wohl eines der Besten Live Alben die es je gab...und geben wird..Peter - Absolute Weltklasse....geradezu Überirdisch und der damaligen Zeit weit voraus
In my ,youth ,wore out , three cassettes of , this. 🥳🥳🥲😂
J adore cette musique du film Birdy
Seems odd that this album was recorded during the salad days of MTV yet I see no video of the show. The man's live performances were legend.
I saw this at The Greek Theater in Berkeley...it was insane. Totally legendary.
@@kurtifeder3431 Me too.
Think of all the Cookie Cutter BS that MTV played.
True Art did not fit.
still the best voice ever.
BEST VERSION OF ONE OF THE BEST-EST OF GABRIEL!!!! Back when he used to do awesome songs as such....
WHAT AN ENTRANCE OF A SONG. SUPER!
CHEF D OEUVRE DES ANNEES 80 DE Mr PETER GABRIEL INOUBLIABLE🖐💪🙂
During this time in the 80's, I was far more into rock/metal and it took me awhile to embrace other music that wasn't rock based.............and I thought Peter Gabriel's videos on MTV were stupid. That was, until I heard this record and I had no idea how diverse Peter was and the energy he brought was addicting.
My first time seeing Mr.Gabriel was this tour.wut a magnificent, amazeing, incredible, event.i was electrified by this most incredibly talented performer and his amazing band!! The absolute best concert I've ever had the pleasure of attending.w.appr 400 gigs ,,hands down the best!!!!
I just now started listening to Peter Gabriel as a solo artist but I came here because of his work with Genesis. My favorite era of Genesis is with Peter on vocals. Masterful singer, lyricist and showman. His solo work may not get sd much love as Phil Collins' does but it's just as brilliant.
I had forgotten about this treasured live album until today when hearing this on the radio. I remember renting the CD from the library in college and was instantly hooked. The first track reminds me of his early days with Genesis.
The Master...

Miami Vice...
+bassmanjoe yes, this song was in the miami vice series ..
if I recall correctly it was some gun battle, or preparing to some gun battle with cocaine dealers. Miami Vice sucked other than the music..
Coincidentally, Peter Gabriel's "Biko" was played at the end of the episode when Evan died.
Orison Squirrell YES!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
@bassmanjoe Was featured in The Film "Birdy" with Nick Cage and Matthew Modine. It is worth a look.
I'm just mad about Saffron. They call me mellow yellow.
Evan brought me here. Then he died.
Great music. No idea what he's talking about half the time.
i think i do let me know if you are curious
it is worth reading about his songs and what inspired them musically and lyrically. There is a lot of information about that on the internet and i find it adds significant value to my enjoyment of his art
He's actually singing about Carl Jung's experience studying African tribes, and the feelings that he felt when he participated in one of their rituals.
