I completely agree! If no one I know needs anything and I am wanting to use up some yarn to make space, I will make blankets, hats, mittens, scarves, socks, etc to donate to the homeless in my general area. Or if I want to use up yarn left from other projects, I will make toys to donate to hospitals, to folks who have relocated after leaving abusive relationships and have no money to buy new toys for their kids, or to donate to children living in refugee camps and things. it is not much but it lets someone know that they are being thought of even if we don’t know each other. I hate my hands not being busy, so this works well for me.

We took a nice trip to Indian Lake near Manistique in the UP of Michigan. We were there for 4 gorgeous days. My favorite cotton is Ultra Pima by Cascade Yarns. I was going to get rid of my stash as I had 9 totes (which were like 2-1/2 feet wide by 4 feet long) packed full of yarn. Then I received a call from a friend who knew of a less fortunate community in Northern Wisconsin. I made over 300 hat and scarf sets, 250 blankets, dishcloths, washcloths and 200 pair of mittens. Any left over scraps went into scrappy blankets. I now have people dropping off yarn on my porch so I can make more items to give to those who are in need. So, lol, I don't think you can have too much yarn. No, I did not hop on the granny square band wagon. I find it too fussy, but that's just my own opinion.

To see if your hat is the right size. Measure across your hat top - this is the diameter. Then multiply the diameter by Pi (3.14). This will give you the circumference. Measure around your head. The circumference should be about the same as your head measurement. Hope this helps. Thanks for the update - I too stuggle with stash size 😁

I have a half a room full. Most of it is clearance yarn, Ice yarns or project yarns. My project yarns have been a issue but now I buy the yarn, print the pattern and put them in a ziplock bag (vacuum bag if needed) and they have their own totes. If not I will use my yarn that I purchased for a specific pattern in something random. When I buy clearance I plan to keep track of it and use it as I can by using a stash tracker like on ravelry.

How much stash is too much:
Buying just bc it is on sale, with no realistic plan to use it.
You are out of room to store your stash (you're sleeping with it, or something similar).
You are spending so much on yarn (or whatever) that you can't meet your bills
Beyond that, what constitutes "too much" is really just a personal choice, and is no one's business but yours and anyone you share your living space/life with.
    Have a great day. 🐞

Too much yarn is a matter of one's opinion. I have an entire craft room full of yarn from floor to ceiling. I haven't purchased any in 2 years unless I ran out of a color during a project. You only have too much if you think you have too much

I think you can have too much stash if it stresses you out - I have a huge stash, like huge, it could last me for a decade and I knit a lot LY (30 sweaters, 15 shawls, hats, cowls etc). I wish I had a bit less so I would not feel the pressure. I do like to pick out a yarn and start a project immediately.. so some stash is great but sometimes you can have too much!

Thank you for sharing your frustrations. I feel less in it alone now. I'm learning to embrace the frog and be willing to scrap a project if it's just not working. Sometimes, it's not the right yarn or not the right size or even just not the right design (especially with wearables). I've also learned it's good to have a stash, but be willing to go get what you need if the yarn you have isn't the right fit. Oh, and I love making dish clothes and wash clothes when traveling because the project is simple and small and I can have fun with trying new stitch work.

Imagine having three grown children (who have now doubled to six through marriage) as well as nine grandchildren, and not ONE place to buy yarn for 1000 kms (about 620 miles for ,y American friends)! We moved to a teeny tiny remote town in the Canadian Arctic, so it is a plane trip to shop in person - and seriously, with a new yarn, don’t you like to actually FEEL the yarn before you purchase? We purchase a year’s worth of dry and canned goods groceries at a time, so you know my yarn shops are EPIC when I do get out. Because of that, my vote is that there is NEVER too much yarn! 🥰🥰🥰

@@creatinga_happierme I may or may not have ordered a few extra balls of yarns I have found that I like! 😉 lol I have found a wonderful small yarn shop that I have created a relationship with. They now know the things I like, so are better able to recommend new items. Without that relationship that I can trust, I would have to revert to my ridiculously large shops to purchase yarn for several projects all at once. The first time I did that, hubby’s eyebrows went so high when the total came up, I didn’t know if they would ever come back! LOL!

Hi, this is the first video I watch on your channel. My stash is really humongous, and I am actually making blankets to use some of it. I love the baby blanket ❤❤❤. Is it a creation of yours, or can you give me the name of the pattern for me to purchase. I am also in the granny fever. I have always loved them. 😅 Having a stash is my comfort zone. I have always been criticized for it, and that ok. I feel happy that I can make a last-minute gift, or donate to a cause, or have it on hand when a friend needs yarn in a rush. It's here, it is used and new yarns added to it. 🎉

I think I may have too much yarn. My “stash” has turned into “SABLE” - Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy. And that doesn’t even include the wool roving and haven’t spun into yarn yet which amounts to another SABLE!

I figure too much is if the yarn will outlive you, maening that you will not be able to crochet the whole lot… I have a set amount of space for my stash, I only buy for projects, I only have 5 wips going at a time and only 5 projects for the future. Once a project is done, I finish off the remaining yarn in a hat or beanie. It keeps the yarn at a manageable level.

Being in Canada there is no where really to buy yarn, I looked online at sites people recommend but it is cheap if American but converted it's really expensive..Will never find yarn at goodwill or value village and if they do have any it's crazy expensive for half used balls ...and if someone donates any they will put 1 roll of the same in numerous bags because they want you to buy all the bags it's crazy...so I say keep everything you have and stock up if you can because it seems it's going to be harder to get any at good prices..

1- Ursula from OMGranny square winds her stash into small cakes and stores them in a tote. I like that idea, they can be at the ready and easily seen. two smaller totes can hold cotton/acrylic. 2- hat size can be approximate because of ease. Usually about 60 stitches works. 10,20 then start the sc,inc. , 2sc, inc. 3sc, inc. etc. When you get to 60 sts... keep that number until you get the length you need to begin your squares. This makes it easier to attach the square and to know the number of squares you need. 10 sts on the side of the square, you need 6 squares. ( You can fudge the numbers somewhat as you join the squares) 3- CHUCK THE ROPE . make a flat strap the length you need, attach it to either side...voila! your done. 4- keep up the good work, i like your enthusiasm!

I think too much stash is when you start to feel overwhelmed with what you've got, and you end up having trouble finding use for any of it because it gives you anxiety. Too little stash is when you find yourself scrambling to find enough or adequate yarn/thread to finish a project, or the inability to create a project because you don't have enough to make it. I have never gotten on the granny bandwagon. I do not like the stitch, as it is overdone or overused. It looks too old fashioned and generic. While I find a lot of color combinations fantastic, the stitch itself is boring for me.
