    Hi Jenna - I hope you're feeling better. I used to live in Alaska and encourage your visit with this warning - the majority of the people I knew there decided to move to AK after visiting on vacation. That was my story as well. My recommendations depend on where you want to go and how you plan to get there. If you fly into Anchorage, you will have more thrift stores, but other than the views of Denali and whales from downtown, it's pretty much like any similar-sized city you'd find elsewhere. You could also fly into one of the smaller cities/towns (Sitka, Ketchikan, Juneau) or take a cruise ship or the Alaska Ferry to get there. If you go to only one place, I suggest Juneau. It rains a LOT (I suspect even more than where you live) but is gorgeous. If you have rain gear, bring it. Great hiking, fishing, biking. The downtown is fun to walk around and you can easily get to a glacier if that appeals to you.

    A hexagon granny square cardigan would be good project to try. You just crochet two big six sided granny squares and they magically fold into a cardigan. You don't have to think and there are a few videos on it. I'm currently making a black one with baby alpaca yarn. Give it a go! This vid just showed me I probably should concentrate more to get it finished. The blanket looks great! Hope you feel better soon.🖤

    You did SO well to do that much in 24hrs! My favourite pattern for blankets is the corner to corner crochet! It is GREAT for scrap yarn and so easy! You can tweak the pattern to make it rectangle, otherwise it comes out as a perfect square. Highly recommend! I sincerely hope you are feeling better soon!!!

    I think you got a lot done in 24hrs! As you said, it gets deceptively less rewarding over time since as the square grows it takes longer and longer and longer (and longer...) to do an outside edge. I'm really impressed! Feel better soon, I'm also on the antibiotics/mystery infection train right now and .... well, I'm getting a lot of knitting done, so that's a silver lining?

    There are a lot of alaskan cruises which is helpful because then you can not worry about where you're gonna sleep/eat and everything is included. Then when they stop at ports they let you explore the places. Most cruises are super affordable too. Just remember to bring dramamine if you do that though so you're not seasick.

    Granny square stitch doesn't feel that satisfying tho, because the bigger your blanket gets the longer you have to crochet to get to the end of the row. I'm so glad you decided to split up the 24 hrs BTW, losing sleep can wreak havoc on your immune system, so the 12 hr "shifts" is a much better idea. I think you did phenomenal on this blanket, 24 hours really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. It takes so much time to craft things from yarn, that's why they are so satisfying and special.

    love how it turned out!! and yay alaska! if you can, a cruise is honestly theeee BEST way to see it. the cruises are usually packed with older folks, but honestly, that's part of the fun. you usually start off in Anchorage, make tons of fun stops along the coast and then end up in Vancouver. you'll see glaciers and lots of animals - but the views are just amazing. however you end up exploring, have fun!!

    Maybe you'd like making a temperature/climate blanket. It's where you choose a colour for every celsius/degree number and every day you crochet one row according to the temperature that day. Like a journal. In the end you probably have a very colourful blanky :)

    Alaska, you have to go on some sort of sled dog thing. We did an activity at a summer training place for the dogs and 12 dogs pull a 6 person golf cart around a mountain path. You get to see the puppies they've had during the summer and it was so fun! We ended up going back to see the start of the Iditarod race the following year and got to go on sleds with the dogs pulling at one of the homes of one of the racers. So fun!!!

    I'm originally from Alaska! A popular thing people do is a cruise, Kenai Fjords is a cool cruise that takes you to some glaciers and an island for dinner. If you go to Valdez, theres a cruise that will take you out also to some glaciers and you would most likely see some porpoises, sea otters, sea lions, and probably some bears around the outskirts of Valdez. More inland, there is Denali National Park! I think August would be around the end of tourist season so I think the shops might still be open - if not, it's still a fun drive to go into the park and see moose and possibly bears.
    On top of that, just about anywhere in AK is beautiful and cool to see, there is a hot spring outside of Fairbanks called Chena Hot Springs, ive never been to the resort or anything beyond walking around the trails and admiring the ducks, but it's a fun little drive. :) I hope you have fun with whatever you end up doing, I'd love to see/hear about your experience in a video after the trip!

    I’m not sure if it’s a thing everywhere (please let me know) but where I live everyone takes a blanket into the movie theater. This would be the perfect blanket for that. Big enough for you but not your neighbors.

    Honestly, every time u mentioned feeling bad about not doing so much progress in a time period I had to think of my own blanket. I am crocheting this thing since three years. THREEE Years and it is only a 1m by 1m square with the same pattern but only squares with 5 rows and then a joining row. So you made more than the same progress that I made in three years in 24 hrs. I make the yarn myself too so that needs some time but I just want to tell everybody that we should only share progress for ourselves and not compare to one and another. Love the vid tho

      You make your own yarn? That’s so cool! What kind of products do you use when creating yarn?

    • @justannalena7512
      @justannalena7512 Рік тому

      @@jozelynnnitz4504 I just use the raw wool (either sheep or the dog hair, since I live in a city now and do not come by sheep that regularly), wash it with some shampoo and then I have a spinning wheel. I needed some practice to get the yarn how I wanted it to. There are many videos tho on how to make yarn by yourself. Sometimes I need to use large brushes if the wool is not so ice and fluffy. It makes the process easier too.

    Oh my goodness! Your coming to Alaska!!! Cool my advice as I live in Alaska is to got out of Anchorage. Ride the train to Seward and take a fjord cruise. Got to Denali catch the bus into the park. Sadly you can’t go back mile 20 ish as the road is to unsafe. If you need anything let me know.

    Work definitely slows down once you hit a certain mark. If you make it as wide as you like, continue on on just one side of the blanket.
