litterally my dream plane , we live in the everglades and have unlimited off airport capability. i plan on selling my navion in december and getting the sd kit with a rotax 914. we looked into many bush planes like the kitfox, just, and bush cat but decided the zenith was an easy build and better suited our needs
@@thisismagacountry1318 the rv-15 is looking to be a great contender but isn't available yet . also the zenith is tricycle gear and doesn't require a tailwheel rating
@@so-fla.streetcars Tail wheel isn’t a rating, it’s just an endorsement and you can get it in 1-2 days. No checkride required. Tail wheel is pretty mandatory for off airport otherwise you will inevitably hit your prop on things
@@thisismagacountry1318 Different design intention. Tail dragger vs Tricycle gear. The RV-15 will have higher gross weight and range. But, yes the Super Duty is a properly grown up CH701.
One of my favourite planes! 48 US gallons is 181.7 litres so here in NZ 91 octaine car gas is nzd 3.00 per litre so full tanks would be nzd 500-600 ! I think i would faint at this shock….my other favourite is the eGull which being electric would be nzd 10-20 for full “tanks”. Lol….. thanks Laurie
@mojogrip, thanks for your videos. How do you charge you GoPro while flying (during your training videos)? My GoPro only Last about an hour. Thanks buddy.
From the outset, I've thought this was one of the ugliest airplanes made. However, after decades it's growing on me and I can now see myself owning one.
It's a kit plane so theoretically it can I'm sure you'd have to modify the mounts to accept it but on their web page they quote the finished aircraft and weight with a 100hp continental
The 100-hp Rotax 912 is the standard recommendation for the original STOL CH 701 (and STOL CH 750). The larger STOL CH 750 Super Duty was developed specifically to carry higher loads (and larger engines, 140 - 220 hp).
48 gallons for 400 miles or 4 hours isn't good performance for a 3 seat plane. But it can cruise slower may be at 40 knots and less than 50% power for a full day endurance
The main reason most real STOL aircraft are tail draggers, is two fixed wheels are tougher than 1, that also has to be able to turn. Plus the higher angle of attack.

I think a good voice being that it’s an all metal design and will last longer and be less
Maintenance than fabric.
Better than the RV15?

801 Super duty was one I was checking out.
That is my favorite Zenith. I love that 801.
Love your videos and thanks for the review.

I have usb cables and ports in the plane. I also don’t leave the cabin GoPros on through the entire flight. I generally turn them off and on

Mike, didn't you sell planes in the past? If you are still involved with that please let me know. Thanks.

Hey MG - just curious, what do you think of this vs. the Kitfox?
For STOL capabilities, this is the better choice
You wouldn't stick a Titan O-370 on a Kitfox would you?
I was under the impression that it used a Rotax engine

It can use the Viking Aircraft Engine for better performance.
personally, i love flying by the seat of my pants.
Good video but...unless you wish to join Trent Palmer in court, don't cruise over populated areas @ 500ft !
What’s the range?
It says it’ll go 400 miles in the endcard, cant tell if thats a good number or not
@@redjaypictures4528 yeah. That’s not real far.
@@ADAMREES-GRITGYM they make extended range tanks also
@@joshuaclark9831 very cool. Thanks.
There's always a trade off between STOL and fuel capacity.

My goal in the future is to buy a shell of one of these, and put an LS engine in it xD 25-45k for the titan engine for only 205hp? PASS!
An LS engine would weigh far too much for this airframe.
@@coder0079 3.8 v6 it is xD
