Very fun to watch. I remember a performer in a single engine full size non-fabric plane as a kid at EAA. She cut a ribbon with her tale that was held up by poles. At the end she performed a drop leaf landing into the wind on the main air show runway. Neatest thing I’ve seen.
First time I saw a plane of this type was when I was at a small airport just looking around and a hanger door opened up and this plane putted out and gunned the engine and was airborne almost immediately. It was impressive.
I used to love watching STOL comps but then they hired these awful announcers. They’re just constantly trying to hype it up when it’s already exciting without them yelling.
I agreed, I'd much rather just watch the planes. I sat for two hours to get that spot to film (over 7k people showed up to watch) and at the last moment they brought out that goofy radar unit and blocked the view of the landings lol. Unfortunatly a large portion that shows up is public and they like the commentary. The announcer during the daily ultralight flights was way worse....talking non stop about random crap while the planes flew...when he shut up for 30 seconds it was so nice lol
@@Hodakaguy I assume it was a two seater but I wonder if any modifications were done to the wing and what engine was used and mods if any. Rotax now makes I think the 915 which is a turbo model about 150 ho I think.
I believe it's scored as takeoff distance from the line + landing distance from the line (not to touch down before). Shortest wins. I think this was just a demo, not a real comp, as there was nobody out there making really precise measurements.
Thanks for the reply, this is exactly right. The goal is to see who can take off and land in the shortest distance. This was just a fun competition/demo like you said 👍
Some guys had their airplane catch on fire approaching Oshkosh... Only reason YOU heard about it is because so many GA aircraft go to Oshkosh. This happens elsewhere, YOU just never hear about it.
I watch these comps almost every Saturday. Thanks for posting Tom
Nice flying by all but Big Tuna, the Storch and the Ultra-light really stood out. Shout out to #44 as well.
Looked like nitros injection to me
5:09 looks like the physics of an RC plane!!
wow
i was stunned. that oversized prop, the carzy sound. omg. didn't let me down at all.

very few rc planes who takes of after 1 meter or so. I wouldnt dare to try it on my rc plane due to tourch forces.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve attended EAS many times and currently live 30 miles from Oshkosh.

0:27 Skills! Most people don't really know how difficult a rolling tail stand is.... Or a tail stand in general for that matter...
Or simply get a nose wheel plane and skip all these unnecessary complications ..
@walterrawdanik8077 Noooooo.....
@@walterrawdanik8077 taildraggers for life!! 😂 it’s ok to admit you lack the skills needed. Keep flying with your training wheel on the nose 🤣
Looking forward to seeing these guys in Gallatin, TN!
I flew the Zenith CH701 years ago from their hanger in Mexico MO. So fun. Until you fly a lightweight plane with slats, you don't know.
Given enough headwind, the Starch would switch to a VTOL. Literally.
Great flying by all competitors!
wow Nice Birds departures great short hop but Line up & full stop is the best
Well shit if you have that 44 plane who needs a helicopter.
STOL? More like VTOL at 5:05 and the Chinook, too.
Super!
Steve Henry is their grandfather in STOL
Outstanding. Man will have truly conquered the air when he can land in a tree. Not long now.
I used to love watching STOL comps but then they hired these awful announcers. They’re just constantly trying to hype it up when it’s already exciting without them yelling.
Same thing with the pro series tractor pulls, have to listen to someone incessantly yapping non stop!

What you call it if you keep your nose wheel off? Trike stand.?(works better with a pusher)
I was there & to a person they begged for silence
AY CALLATE CALLATE CALLATE QUE ME DESESPERAS 😮
Would anyone know what type of plane number #44 at 5:00 is?
For an off the shelf everyday kit, that doesn't cost that much, (relatively speaking of course) the 701 is so impressive.
I would like to camp right next to this event. But I don't know exactly where it is.
Oshkosh WI

@artsteadman2230 I went there as well...it was awesome 👍
When Steve Henry shows up everyone else is running for second place.
What model of ultralight is that?
It's a Chinook. It was impressive!
@@Hodakaguy Thank you! Sure was!
@@treyjackson8508The Chinook is classified as a light sport aircraft. They are really cool, but too heavy to meet ultralight regulations.

These announcers totally ruin everything.
Is that an original Storch or is it modified?
That is a scaled down home built experimental Storch, smaller than the original and powered by a Rotax engine 👍
What's the goal? Land on the smallest possible speed?

Did you own a Hodaka? I had a Penton once upon a seventies
Currently own a Super Rat and a Wombat...love these little bikes! Looking at a Penton Six Days today 👍
If Mike and his Draco was thete he would have cleaned up.
Probably no. He won the the heavy class with the Draco though.
That event needed THAT announcer like I need Another Ex-wife...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
5:08
christ...... does that announcer ever shut up ?????
No, he has a talking compulsion disorder.
Nope lol. You should have heard the announcer during the ultralight flying it was brutal
@@556suppressor Damn I guess>>>>just shut up and watch the planes !!!
The microphone is a rental, so he's gonna drive it 'til the wheels come off.
ok, now show me stool competition

So am I. 😅😂

The Storch could have done much better if he left the tail down.
