As someone with no musical training apart from what I've picked up from listening, this helped me hear differences in time signatures. So thanks for that, haha.
you fools... the entire thing is in 5/8. add it up! every time you see 767 or 776 it's really 4 bars of 5/8. The line 5665/5665/5665/5667 is really 18 bars of 5/8. Dream Theater makes more complicated music than most people think. Does anyone else see the 5 birds and the 8 balls on the album cover?
@@alexg3455 dude there is more to it than that. 8 notes in an octave. The symbolism of Octavarium is insane and all the Easter eggs are genius. 5/8 is all over the album. 5 constant members, 8 in total at the time of octavariums release when including Charlie, Kevin and Derek. When octavarium was released it was their 8 album, and they had at the time 5 live albums. octavarium has 8 songs, Train of thought has 7 songs, Turbulence has 6 songs. Root is in F minor, Answer is in G minor, These walls in A minor, I walk beside you in Bb minor, Panic attack in C minor, Never enough in D minor, Sacrificed sons in E minor and finally you have come to the octave of Octavarium which is in F minor and thats the whole scale of F minor. F, G, A, B, C, D, E and F. Also remember the black keys? the chromatic steps between the notes in F minor. F#, G#, A#, C# and D#. There are parts between every song that is in the key of these notes, for example after The root of all evil chimes can be heard which are in F#. A heartbeat can be heard after These walls that is in 58 bpm. A pitch bend from G to G# is played before these walls. There is so much shit in octavarium, it would probably take an hour or more to read about it.
oh and the part that comes just after that is 36/16, which is the same as 18/8, which is the samd as 2 bars of 9/8. So the whole section is still 4/4. LMFAO.
You might find it less cumbersome (as well as easier to illustrate accents) if you count your 5s and up using 2s and 3s. For instance, 123-1212 or 123-1234 is way different than 1212-123 or 1234-123. It's all made of twos and threes.
This is cool, but in the future I think maybe it would be better if there was a visual on screen to count the beat instead of verbally counting it out, that way the count doesn't interfere with being able to hear the song
Great work, I only give a suggestion to group the even notes, its quite easier to count. You do that sometimes when it is to fast to count, should do it in the whole song, for example in the section 878-10, why not 4/4+7/8+4/4+5/4?
Those two bars of back to back 8s when it's clean guitar is m favorite part on the song.

The 8 balls and 5 birds on the album cover are supposed to represent a keyboard or piano. 8 balls = 8 white keys, and 5 birds = 5 black keys.
eight including the octave, hence OCTAVarium
What the fuck

In for a penny in for a pound I guess. Great video though. I really wanted to know what the time signature was of that crazy riff.
at first i was like WTF but then it made sense XD
3:50 so... 28/16, which equals 14/8, which equals 2 bars of 7/8.
Not that hard.
