Watch this video to find out what living with the alive suspension upgrade is like and how it had changed my Land Rover defender 90. My land rover defender 90 was previously on a 2" lift and is now running and standard height. I fitted alive comfort springs and fox shocks to my land rover defender 90- watch this video to find out whether it was worth it or not?!

For anything exhaust speak to Demand engineering. Artwork in stainless steel and so many options. Great people too.
You could get a demand engineering exhaust downpipe with a dummy cat.
Ive tried so many suspension combinations on my truck including the bilsteins and have finally settled with the fox adjustable remote resevoir shocks. The fox are better than the bilstein in every way. The bilsteins were too stiff for the wheels to track the undulations in the road and you would get a slight bounce over bumps. I run my fox fairly soft when unloaded and the wheels track the ground so much better that grip on the country roads has increased over the bilsteins. Amazing how much difference good suspension makes.
Thanks for the comment - yes I’ve been looking at the demand systems too- look very nice 👌🏻👌🏻
Glad to hear that your Defender is handling much better, I should imagine having an anti roll bar will make a massive difference, especially when going from not having one to 10mm larger than stock, combined with the new springs/struts😀
I don't own a Defender, but I can only assume the use them without to give more independent suspension travel when doing serious off roading.
I guess the next step is Poly bushing the suspension, if you feel more improvements are required👍
Thanks- it makes such a difference with all the other equipment 👌🏻👌🏻
Excellent outcome and stance looks factory- your previous set up was really tired and glad it’s drivability so much better - an exhaust new seats and hey presto why buy a new 90 - second hand values ever increasing so great investment too 👍
Thanks Malcolm- I keep adding a setting of Lucari seats to my basket then leaving the page 😂
Nothing beats the fox shocks 🙌🙌
So impressed with the difference 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve had my defender for 10years now and have been considering this upgrade for quite a while. I think I’ll definitely be going for it now, great video 👍
Thanks Darren- well worth it and I can’t recommend the Alive set up and workshop enough 👌🏻
Great job doc, I have got the Fox shocks with the reservoir ( piggy back ) on my 110 and the singles in the front and very happy as well 👍😉
My 110 twin! I’m so pleased with the upgrade🙏🏼
Still plenty of clearance for off-roading if necessary! Nice!
👌🏻Really pleased with the new set up!
Sounds like impressive results and a must for older Defenders👌 maybe once you have completed all of the modifications you should take it down to the French Alps and review it in those conditions, much like your recent review of the new Defender 😁
That’s would be a great trip! 🏔
Good detailed explanation. Thanks for sharing Doc.
Thanks Arch 👌🏻👌🏻
I put Alive stainless performance exhaust on my TD5 90 from the front pipe back, even now two years later, I still drive round with the window down to listen to it😈
The Alive stainless exhaust does sound awesome 😎
Nice! I couldn’t fit it in the video but I did have a good look at the Alive exhaust myself whilst I was in the workshop and it does look really good 👌🏻
Hi Doc,
Absolutely fascinating, you have certainly made up my mind about fitting the Alive suspension to my Puma along with my existing stage 1 Alive remap.
Didn’t realise there was a 4x4 show in Stafford, I’ll have a chat with the missus and see what we can do, great video Doc!
Kind regards
Tony
Great to hear Tony- mention ‘The Doctors Garage’ and speak to Martyn and he will look after you. Yes I’ll be at 4x4 expo on the 20th Feb- hopefully see you there! 👌🏻
Hi Tony , I’ve got a stock 2008 2.4 xs puma . The ride is harsh and bouncy and was thinking of doing the same as the doc .. have you done it yet? If so how have you found it ?
Great video, I would just get rid of the cat box and fit a straight pipe it's not actually needed as emissions are very low anyways
Thanks Paul- it’s what I’m thinking!
@The Doctor’s Garage may need to have a slight adjustment to your alive tune, will sound great tho
what was the cost of this suspension setup?
Remove the egr blank it of and remove the cat I did it and it never fails to pass an mot test just make sure it’s warm when they test it and also run injector cleaner every 2000 miles through the fuel tank or just before you take. It in use the full tank and mix and test on fresh fuel 👍
Great tips thanks Alec! 👌🏻👌🏻
im thinking of buying this, how much did it cost for fitting labour?
I’ve had decat Td5 110 for 7 years and never had MOT issue, just need to find a garage that won’t notice or care.
Good to know! Sounds like I need to try a few
Im very tempted to do this, however I'm concerned ill lose too much offroad and towing performance.
I have to say it looks great and seems to drive great also, I bet you are very pleased with the results. All positives from where you started off, I wonder what this set up would be like if you moved from a standard suspension set up to this one 🧐.
Thanks! I think even if it was all standard defender suspension at 15years old it would be a big improvement! 👌🏻👌🏻
Fantastic video! Very informative 👍🏻
Thansk! Appreciate it- I was a bit lost when I was trying to choose which to go for so glad it has helped 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi Doc, great to see the improvements paid off.
Would you care if I used your Defender as my desktop picture, it looks magnificent.
Thanks for another great video.
Stay safe and all the best.
Regards Peter.
Of course Peter feel free! Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos 🙏🏼🙏🏼🚙
Hi Doc, great video as always. Fancy the fox shocks myself now. 🤔 Fancied going to the show but just looked at the distance and dont fancy the 5 hour drive there and back. shame...
Thanks! Would recommend the Fox and Alive springs together - made a huge difference. Also cannot recommend the workshop at alive enough for getting it all done. Oh well looking forward to the other shows this year too so may see you at those!
After a 3 month wait the comfort springs fox shocks and anti roll bar have arrived 😁. BUT I have to wait 3 weeks until my garage has a morning to fit them 🙄. They better be worth the wait!!! 😬🤞🏻
You lowered the car from the factory setting? Or was it a "lift-kit". I'm confused!
It was on a 2inch lift but is now at standard height 👌🏻
Hi Marcus. I’ve just copied you and upgraded my suspension to the exact same components as you to my defender 90 puma. Did you replace your bushes to the polyurethane super pro ones too ? I bought them but my garage said to see how it feels with the existing rubber ones first. As they are hardly worn. I guess the super pro ones will make the ride a lot firmer/stiffer ?
Hi Paul - great to hear- I haven\t changed my bushes yet... I understand it gives you more of a direct feel to the defender but If I\m honest I feel its quite a stiff ride as it is! I'm sure at some point I will end up doing the bushes as some are looking a bit tired- but haven't got round to it yet
@@thedoctorsgarage Thank you Marcus. The garage that installed my new suspension said that my original bushes are hardly worn, as it’s a 15 reg and only done 33,000 miles. I’m super impressed with the ride quality now. Plus I’ve added Omtimil wheel spacers too. These have improved the handling hugely as well. Next step is all new Lucari interior too. I’ve been wanting to get these fitted since I bought my Defender last October. Fortunately I’m not too far from them in Rye.
Lucari Seats were my favourite upgrade - expensive but so worth it. Although then you’ll be terrified of it getting stolen even more like I am!
@@thedoctorsgarage yep I agree. Watched your clip on apple tags earlier. Very useful. I have a tracker fitted to mine, and use a disclock steering wheel cover.
Awesome bud 👍🏻
Thanks! 👌🏻
How much did it cost?
It’s around £1400 in parts plus the labour
Had very much the same up grade on my 65 plate LR defender from new this was carried out by JE motor works and it has been brilliant to drive regular drive 300miles to Newcastle still feel relaxed on arrival the only disappointment is the fox shocks have gone and only done 28 k never been off-road how ever have sent them to prolinks.for rebuild
Thanks for the comment Sue- that disappointing about the fox shocks - I’ve heard such good things - maybe send them back to Fox??
