I see many negative comments about Kerry King, but nobody works harder at keeping SLAYER relevant. Dave always has a reason/excuse to leave the band. Jeff never liked doing interviews and even admitted to thrusting many guitar duties on Kerry. Even Tom has had an opportunity to develop as a songwriter because of the rock that Kerry has been to the band. Hate all you want, but know that Kerry King will most likely be the last man standing. It is hard to be humble when you are in Fuckin' SLAYER!
same thing with Lars of Metallica. they're the most hated public members, but without those guys those bands wouldn't , couldn't do shit. they're the most important members.
You're were right, Kerry was the last one standing, I wouldn't be surprised if he just gets Phil Anselmo to sing instead and carry on as Slayer, he'll say to Tom well you decided to leave Tom it's my band now, he's calling all the shots for sure now.
I've seen this man in the grocery store at least 4 times lol he's super humble most I've ever done was thrown the horns or given a nod and got the same in return.
I saw Slayer for the first time when I was 17. I'm 43 now and saw them last month with my daughter at the same venue. We were there celebrating HER 17th birthday. I'll admit that it was a little odd at first seeing Gary over there instead of Jeff but he absolutely killed the set. Gary is also an awesome dude. I met him YEARS ago after an Exodus gig and he was friendly as hell. I think Kerry, just like he said, gets a kick out of coming across as the bad guy and so he plays the role to the hilt.
I think the way it worked in Slayer - Jeff - best writer of songs Kerry - best live guitarist Dave Lombardo - best drummer by far Tom - does what he does - great singer for Slayer
Not sure why you would think that people would kiss my ass, but Kerry and I have known each other a long time, so I don't think there's much ass kissing on either side. Also, as a side note: "Bitches" is the plural of bitch and "Bitch's" is the possessive. So, if you're going to call me a bitch, you may want to at least do it right.
I took it as you got KK to answer questions honestly because he trusted you...great interview. I love to hear KK talk....very honest and he gives insight into the band without airing dirty laundry.
Seeing comments like "he sounds like a dickhead" or "he's arrogant" to me he sounds like a boss, and at the end of the day he's a businessman with a product(s) to sell. You are not in his shoes, we all loved & love slayer and at the end of the day keeping that going is what matters to me and to him and as hard as it is to swallow we "the fans" do not see what goes on behind closed doors, the disagreements the arguments. Who knows how long the problems of drugs, alcohol has been plagued the members of slayer and he has come to a point where he knows if they don't move away from "the lifestyle" they are doomed, when you are "up" in age and your body does not bounce back the way it use too gives you a greater prospective on one's health, life, and well being. Physical pain that doesn't go away quickly makes you appreciate when your not in pain. It does sound like to me that is is harboring anger / resentment towards members not focused on the mission but in the end that should be every members goal, play time is over there's a time in life we all have to grow up and acknowledge those things we could afford to ignore in youth. Take this as a sign, slayer coming to crossroads and may not be around much longer, you can only go 100 mph for so long.
I'm a christian, and I love Slayer!!! I don't push my views or beliefs on anyone, and I respect everyone for theirs... but I have met A LOT of atheist who have talked shit to me, and pushed their beliefs on me, so for him to say christian's are the only ones pushing their views on other people, is completely false.
I met slayer in and I tell you they were all cool. But Kerry cameout and talked before the show and after the show really nice guy down to earth and. Very humble they all were Tom was very polite and his wife was really nice to Jeff was nice guy and Paul was really nice and very greatful to. All the fans
I interviewed Erik from Watain, doesn't that count? Also have interviewed Dani Filth, but no longer have a copy of it. There's prolly some I'm forgetting. But, it just depends on who's coming through town and if our schedules gel for an interview.
Know a lot has happened since this interview..Jeff passing,Slayer hanging up their spurs (without Kerry croaking on stage thankfully) Lemmy passing Slipknot in shambles but its awesome to see these old interviews and hear the hopefulness for the future and two friends shoot the shit even if its in a buisness setting
Great interview first off, second, this interview in particular makes me so sad when it comes to the Hanneman, health discussions. I wanted to see that guy again so badly. Rest In Peace to Jeff and Dime bag, I hope they’re tearing it up in hell.
Not everything can last forever. Fuckin Miss Slayer live shows. The album Repentless. Rates right under reign in blood. Kerry really did an amazing job writing that record.
that was maybe the coolest interview I have seen with kerry king. as far as talking about alot of subjects and being talkative; he didnt give quick, cliche answers, plus it was like 20mins...cool stuff
I think Kerry is a cool dude. Being in a band is a business, you do need a guy to make things happen, hold people accountable, etc. That's my take anyway. Good interview Nikki
What ur talkin about. It officially stands that Kerry wrote most of the lyrics for that album. Lyrics: 10 tracks from 13 and music: 7,5 from 13. For the limited edition the numbers are 12 from 15 and 8,5 from 15
Lol, at 3:03 he answers the question "Who could take Slayer out at this point" with "Maiden, Priest, Sabbbath" and then just leaves it there, while he's on a tour where Slayer are not the headlining band and Slipknot is headlining over them. I mean, Jesus, talk about the fucking ego on this guy. 1 year after this they were headlining with Gojira supporting them playing 2,000-3,000 capacity theaters.
Clearing out the backstage means that they don't allow any other bands or guests in the backstage or side stage areas for sometime before and during the headliner's performance. While many bands do this to some degree, there are usually exceptions made for artists and friends of a certain caliber, which usually includes Kerry King. Apparently, in this case, it did not...
Well we will never know of what he says is true or not, but the fact remains, with that personality he is not making a lot of friends and he is not keeping many of them either. Tom even said that he was closer with Jeff than with Kerry.
I was at the Atlanta show, it was probably the best show I've ever been to. I went to Louder Than Life in 2019 and it was the only show that was just as good lol.
i worked on his house off of werrick and the 15.. nice pad.. he and his wife were way cool.. always being polite.. i almost fainted when i knew it was his house
Hey man, that is awesome! I have met him twice and both times he was awesome. Hey...do you have any photos of him and her shopping...haha. If so, I would love to see them. :) Hit me up!
@11:55 Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson have been best friends for more than 30 years and they still are, so it's not necessarily an issue of time and familiarity with someone..
Here's a musician who respects his audience and always puts on a great show just like his fellow band members. Its entertainment and thought provoking if someone wants to get into meaning of lyrics; but the band could care less which is why I have a high respect for them. He's a smart business man too. However, I don't like when musicians diss other artists no matter what genre..... Music is art and I respect Heavy Metal as much as I do Pop, Metal Rap, Rock & others. Musicians should too. Peace!
Logan Bockbrader Why does everyone think he's an asshole? He's just upfront with shit and has a tone that makes people think his jokes are him talking seriously
Funny how he said he's careful not to drink before a performance to keep the show good, and yet Dimebag Darrell is said to play better drunk than when sober.
Just like anything whether you own a business and your the boss, somebody got to be the asshole and make sure shit gets done. Kerry definitely makes sure shit gets done as far as SLAYER goes. Without him there's no SLAYER, and we can't have that!!!!
Yeah, Tiner is so ridiculous! haha. I love watching videos of them usually though. I watch a lot of interviews and I don't know how I didn't find your channel until now. Bay area's the best!

Amazing how much shit talking o line against him, and a yone who met him says the same thing you said

Great dad, bless you and your family. much love
RIP Jeff Hanneman, you will never be forgotten, the music will forever keep you alive! \m/
Pick your favorite Slayer song. Chances are Hanneman wrote it.
Probably Seasons in the Abyss, which Jeff did write.
both are amazing
Thashnodrus Aythacompostulim .....wrong, listen to the interview again douchebag.
@@JohnDoe-zg3tn araya only wrote the lyrics. jeff the music
I think the way it worked in Slayer -
Jeff - best writer of songs
Kerry - best live guitarist
Dave Lombardo - best drummer by far
Tom - does what he does - great singer for Slayer
I first met Kerry about 20 years ago and we always have a good time hanging out, this was no exception :-)
Too bad he never did make that outstanding comeback...
R.I.P. Jeff...
Loved how he edified Gary Holtz. The dude is amazing.
Not sure why you would think that people would kiss my ass, but Kerry and I have known each other a long time, so I don't think there's much ass kissing on either side. So true an slsyer just played their very last show Nov 30th.
Anyone who thinks Kerry is a dick needs to recalibrate by watching a Gene Simmons interview, then doing a comparison. Kerry is fine.
I met Kerry once and i asked him if he liked the Beatles and all he said was “my wife does”
I'm a christian, and I love Slayer!!! I don't push my views or beliefs on anyone, and I respect everyone for theirs... but I have met A LOT of atheist who have talked shit to me, and pushed their beliefs on me, so for him to say christian's are the only ones pushing their views on other people, is completely false.

Love you Nikki! Listen to you every night on The Bone. Keep metal alive!!!
kerry likes himself alot
Yep! My interview with Clown should be up by tonight!

I went to the first day of Mayhem last year. They...
Slayed.
Love them....for a band that dont talk or hate one and another last this long and retire with dignity🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great interview first off, second, this interview in particular makes me so sad when it comes to the Hanneman, health discussions. I wanted to see that guy again so badly. Rest In Peace to Jeff and Dime bag, I hope they’re tearing it up in hell.
Gary Holt from Exodus is filling in on guitar, while Jeff recovers from a flesh-eating virus, they think was caused by a spider bite.
Judging by the "not allowed on their stage" comment it could be with another band, and by process of elimination, it's probably Slipknot.
What makes you believe so?
Not everything can last forever. Fuckin Miss Slayer live shows. The album Repentless. Rates right under reign in blood. Kerry really did an amazing job writing that record.

Wow....Kerry dude...way to just HATE on your boys in public. Hanneman wrote all the songs that people know by Slayer - respect that.
What ur talkin about. It officially stands that Kerry wrote most of the lyrics for that album. Lyrics: 10 tracks from 13 and music: 7,5 from 13. For the limited edition the numbers are 12 from 15 and 8,5 from 15

Amazing guy
Jeff wrote the majority of all the songs on the classic albums, Kerry is lying
Steve is a long-time friend to both Kerry and myself and was making a joke :-)
No, he and I spoke about it and it was a minor issue with Slipknot on opening night of the tour.

Tom even said that he was closer with Jeff than with Kerry.
This is cool, I like longer interviews.
There is an area of the Jager tent where you have to be 21, but I don't think it's where they have the signing.
This woman is one of the most beautifully fucking awesome women, I have ever heard.
Kreator
I miss slayer😞💔👹
Me too. Life sucks without Slayer.
3:55 Kerry hinting at Jeff's arthritic condition
I wonder how Kerry King feels now that he didn't pick up the phone to see how his mate was doing.
Nice interview!
He sells them at reptile trade shows and through private brokers.
Kerry is so badass he can withstand the hatred from his own band members.
Kerry is the king
I have to agree. You get one original band today that sells, and then a month later 50 new bands that sounds exactly same starts.
They really are...I'm surprised at how many people are quick to judge.
The egos flying thing, was that within the band or another band that he was talking about?
Slipknot, they were running a big production. They didn't want no one on the stage for safety not to be dicks.
Hahaha! There you are! I love you Steve J! And your pyro is THE BEST EVER!!
You know, I honestly don't remember...Maybe he drank a lot of water and we tried to cut it out or it was an edit error?
It’s called a “drink break” people- metal musicians drink alcohol and usually prefer it to not be on camera for many reasons.
He's talking about Slipknot clearing the backstage area before they performed on the first night.
2012 mayhem festival was the best.
I was at the Atlanta show, it was probably the best show I've ever been to. I went to Louder Than Life in 2019 and it was the only show that was just as good lol.
Amazing bloke
i worked on his house off of werrick and the 15.. nice pad.. he and his wife were way cool.. always being polite.. i almost fainted when i knew it was his house
RIP Jeff Hanneman, Im crying tears of manly blood.
I work at the Corona Costco and Kerry and his wife both come in all the time and they're nothing but cool people every time.
Hey man, that is awesome! I have met him twice and both times he was awesome. Hey...do you have any photos of him and her shopping...haha. If so, I would love to see them. :) Hit me up!

Who cares if he's an asshole he's a fucking badass
Agreed
no he's not at all. look at him, a certified turd nugget
Logan Bockbrader not a badass from amusical stance..jeff was. He's a luckybsuburub rich bot that got lucky to find dave and jeff imo
Logan Bockbrader Why does everyone think he's an asshole? He's just upfront with shit and has a tone that makes people think his jokes are him talking seriously
@@walkingdude87 what the fuck is a luckybsuburub
That was a fukin great interview!!!!!
KEEP UP DA GOOD WORK, GORGEOUS!!!
so he's talking about slipknot clearing out the backstage before their show ? Why did they clear out the backstage ?
Wher'de you get your "eyes" from :p
Funny how he said he's careful not to drink before a performance to keep the show good, and yet Dimebag Darrell is said to play better drunk than when sober.
Dimebag had a bit of stage fright, he pretty much always had drinks before and during a show.
I don't think Dime played a show sober.... So many stories.
Kerry did you fall and hit your head Jeff wrote most of the material on prior records you shouldn't take credit for things you haven't done
Kerry had a disagreement with them about one issue on tour. It doesn't mean he hates them. It just means he disagreed with them, once.
kerry always shows up at the pomona fairgrounds for the reptile function
do u half to be 21 to be able to go into the jager tent to meet kerry for the sining
he is, i met him in australia and altho i didnt have a beer with him, he did give me a guitar pick and talk shit for about 10 minutes,
Gary Holt is my hero
-Kerry King
Long live the King.
Same here!!... Gary's the Best!
RIP Lemmy. I cringed when they talked about him.
what does clearing out the backstage mean?
sry, i am from germany.
what was the mystery song he said he was going to play? Did you find out?
what was going on between them and slipknot?
he wasnt allowed on their stage!?
Dude slayer is a big influence on slipknots music Corey Taylor said it in a interview he said they where one of his biggest influences
Queery Queen nervously sipping his drink
What band was playing in the background during this interview?
Kerry king could where a hello kitty t-shirt and still look metal as fuck \m/
Just like anything whether you own a business and your the boss, somebody got to be the asshole and make sure shit gets done. Kerry definitely makes sure shit gets done as far as SLAYER goes. Without him there's no SLAYER, and we can't have that!!!!
Black Sabbath/Slayer tour would be great but Sabbath isn't doing a full tour because of Iommi's cancer. That would be a killer show though imo
I think All Shall Perish is a badass newer band. They deserve a lot more respect and recognition.
I just realized how fucking crazy he is ?
Gary holt is the best
What happened? Sounds like King was pissed
You mean by no accepting last minute changes to the contract?
Yeah, Tiner is so ridiculous! haha. I love watching videos of them usually though. I watch a lot of interviews and I don't know how I didn't find your channel until now. Bay area's the best!
Wow. I listen to the bone a lot where i live(bay area)
LOL Are you serious!? Oh God this is pure GOLD! Fucking hilarious.
What was the issue?
I WAS THERE IT WAS A FUCKING GREAT SET WITH GARY HOLT IN SLAYER
What did he say?
nikki when are you going to interview black metal bands ?

Def Leppard, Quiet Riot,
kerry did all the guitar and bass since the 90s. okay that makes a lot of sense why i havnt bought a record since south of heaven
I’m not sure how much truth there is to that statement
