USP 45 MATCH/LEM HYBRID. ROBAR coated the internals with NP3 coating. Titanium firing pin. Viridian X5L. Perfectly done all the way. The only thing that’s missing is a mission to Shadow Moses island. Lol.

I know the HK45 holds 2 fewer rounds, but that grip in my opinion feels WAY slimmer and nicer than the USP in person. It fills the hand in the middle but tapers significantly toward the top and bottom. I love the USP, but that grip feel difference is very significant.

I agree! I have both the HK45 and HK MK23. The HK45 has the best hand grip ever IMO.

I owned the HK USP 45. It was a great pistol. However, I recently acquired an HK45 Compact Tactical. I have to say there is no comparison! The Compact Tactical with the LEM, bobbed hammer, and other additions make this one of the best shooting pistols (not just 45s) on the market in my humble opinion.

I have the USP45 LEM, and I carried it as my duty weapon in law enforcement for several years. I carried it with four extra mags, and yes, the belt and other belt accessories was heavy. This the Cadillac of firearms. I still have it today, and I guess my sone will inherit it when I am gone.

It shoots very very soft for a 45 and you just know it's built to last. Both are great, but I don't see the USP 45's leaving my inventory, I also have plans for more. Great pistol. A legend for sure.

i think its also worth mentioning that the HK45 grew out of the failed HK1911 experiment thus the grip angle and other measurements are roughly the same as the 1911.

Yes, and that is a good catch. I didn't realize till after that I accidently deleted the history portion on the HK45 when making this video. I have it in the HK45 review I did prior to this video, but chopped it out of this one. Thanks for adding that in the comments. I will look at adding an annotation in there or something. Thanks for watching.

USP has a spell on me..USP 45C 1 with black slide, one stainless. Same in USP45 fullsize 12 rd and a usp expert in 45acp. I just really appreciate the safety measures cooked into their battery of arms. Especially after a life of 1911z's

When I get back to the states, I will be doing much more with the MK25, it is a great gun. AS for the HK's auto forwarding I know you can do it if you hit any magazine fed gun hard enough. But I think HK saw that their design inherently did it, so they made some small adjustments to make it consistent. It won't do it every time, but enough to almost count on it. The way I feed the mag into the gun, almost always does it. I will say I have my thumb ready just in case.

Thank you for you sharing your experiences. I was searching for a cheap range .45, and living in Glocks homeland there are several available from Glock. But I prefer contoured grips like the HK 45 or the PPQ 45 or slender like a 1911. So I watched your HK45 reviews and others and PPQ 45 reviews and others and whatnot and suddenly by chance a cheap used HK 45 showed up on a forum and I bought it. I dont know if the previous owner ever fired more than a magazine because there are no - even looking with a magnifying glass - no traces of slide, barrel or recoil-guiderod movement. The only tiny marring I could find was on the right side, at the rear slide lug: each slide lug or hook as a tiny bit of polymer in front, and on the right side this is a bit marred. As if the previous owner tried to put on the slide angled, a few times, and drove it with force onto the rear lugs, not hitting the lugs with the slide rail. Poor gun ;-) Anyway, this weekend I will hit the range and see how it does.

I carry a striker fired gun primarily, buy the USP 45 is a fantastic gun. The H&K USP 45 Tactical is one of my dream .45s. The compact tactical is about the same.
I sold all my .45s, but if I get another .45 it will likely be a USP.
If I decide to carry an H&K it will probably be a P2000 lite LEM.

If you can't shoot them, the USP 45 will be a little cheaper, and parts more available. Plus those 12 rounds of 45acp are very nice to have.

You're welcome. I like it when people ask questions, it shows they think. Re the Wolf springs. Several agencies have found, with different guns (including Glocks) that hanging a light on the end, which has the effect of allowing the slide to cycle more efficiently/faster, sometimes causes feeding malfunctions. The solution is usually to just use a heavier mag spring. I actually had an HK tech tell me to buy the Wolf springs. One more thing, Insight has an LED kit for the UTL.

Superb video as usual for your channel. The range time up front is a nice addition, particularly that you demonstrated the negligible muzzle flip of these fine pistols when handled by an expert shooter. Noteworthy because the Glock fanatics think a low bore axis makes controllable follow-up shots their exclusive domain. All in all, simply outstanding videos...and you're making a lot of HK converts!

Local shop has a few HK45s just in so I went to chk them out. Its nice but I'm leaning towards the USP 45 full size which they have a bunch of. The added cost with the HK45 I'm not sure. But then again I'm not really in the market yet. I'd like to get an HK in the next few months. So I have plenty of time to research more. Back in 1996 I called HK as a kid and requested they send me a catalog and they sent me a VHS tape which was all about the Mk23 and USP. I'm still trying to track that VHS tape down. I’ve watched this video three times. Thanks for putting it together. It’s the best one explaining HK45 vs USP45. I think I’m leaning towards the HK45. I already own a USP40 LEM. The HK45 feels better in my hands. Losing the two rounds bothers me a little bit. But if I have to go through more than ten rounds on an adversary I got problems. I feel the HK45 is just as bombproof as the USP. The HK USP45 now cost as much as the HK45 did several years ago averaging over $1000 new and the HK45 now averages $700 new. Interesting how they are opposite in price now.

@@fkrr5 I had to get both. HK45 is more versatile in that it has an integrated rail and doesn't need an adapter or special recoil spring for suppressor use. It is thinner in the grip, so losing two rounds for that nice grip isn't an issue, have an extra 10rd mag or two. The USP 45 is a great nightstand gun. Grip fits me fine, I have large hands, but once again, I'd say the HK45 is more of the multiple role pistol.

My department has been issuing the USP45 and USP45C since 1999. We also have about ten P2000's in .40. We issue UTL's or X300's (with adapters for the USP). X300 is more solid than the UTL, but I like the UTL controls better. There is no frame damage from firing it with the UTL mounted, but I have seen a lot of battery compartments fly off when they weren't properly secured (one of the advantages of the X300). Any problems with feeding (after mounting UTL) get the wolf + mag spring.

    Hi guys,
really love the video. i am a hk guy myself. I already own an usp. Since i think the usp is the best all-around gun ever made i want to contribute to this review.
As mentioned the USP is not available as fully ambidextrous but you can get it as a lefty or righty gun i.e. V1 right hand V2 left hand shooter.
HK also makes ambi. safety levers for the USP. Only the slide release wouldn't be ambi. The mag release always is ambidextrous.
BTW there are nine different Variants available. You can convert every USP in whatever Variant you like best.
For the 9mm fans there is also a military Variant wich is being made for the German Army (H&K P8). It is fully ambidextrous but other than that just like the usp. It uses plastic mags instead of metal (15+1 round). Oh and the barrel is rifeled differently. Those guns are available to us s military surplus.
I hope that answer questions that some guys have asked before.
    Thanks again for the video

One round of ammo weight is 0.7oz. Two round of ammo weights are 1.4oz

I am buying the HK USP .45 for its internal durability and I am buying the HK45 because of the feel, it’s newer, the outside / ergonomics. I just question if the HK45 will be able to outlast the HK USP .45. My intuition is telling me that the HK45 won’t outlast the HK USP .45
At the end of the day I want a “Go To War” handgun from HK. The MK 23 / Mark 23 is a little overkill for conceal carry for me so I figure the HK USP .45 would be a wise choice because it has most of the MK 23 / Mark 23’s internal durability components, I’m really digging the double recoil and the simple cannon barrel.
Out of the HK45 and the HK USP .45 I just want the one that is going to be the most reliable, dependable and durable in the long haul.

Depends on what you want to do. The Mark 23 is definitely much more expensive. I am hopefully going to get to shoot one here soon. I will let you know what I think. Thanks for watching, and the feedback I appreciate it.

Thank you. I would love to know what you think of the Mark 23. What are your thought on the HK45 vs FNX 45? I held/ compared the FNX tactical to the USP Tactical and I like the feel of the HK more. Although I liked the 15 rd count on the FN, and I didn't like the all black sites on the USP I was looking at. The only place I can't carry is at work. This will mostly be a weekend shooter/ home defense. I can only buy once in a great while, due to funds, so I try to save up for what I truely want instead of just getting something I like that is cheaper. Thank you.

Brian Montminy II That is a good plan. Honestly, I like the HK's quality more than the FNX's. FN makes amazing rifles, but their pistols are not on the same level I think. Good guns sure, and probably reliable, but not built as well as an HK for sure. They just don't seem as tough to me. The 15 rounds are great, but the grip is horrible on the FNX 45. It is up to you, but my gun is the HK45, so I might not be the best person to ask. I will say, you can't go wrong with an HK. USP 45 or HK45. I remember and was just talking about when I had to look over what I want, save, then go purchase it. Sometimes it would take me months to get it. HK's have a great track record, and a great record with me personally, that is why I have 9 of them. With plans for more. I would say, if at all possible, go shoot both of them before buying. Look for a rent-a-range in your area. See if they have one or both, then go shoot them if you can.

navyman8903 ThaThank you for your response. I am going to check with an old friend, gun enthusiast, if he knows of such a place where I can test a gun before buying, although I have not heard or seen of one near my location, ie in state or just outside of my state. I am hoping he may own one of the guns I am interested in, and let me test his. My normal gun store didn't have a HK45 to hold. I am leaning towards that model over the USP (based off looks and function until I can handle both). The grip looks like it would be easier for my wife to hold, whom I love to shoot with. Also since she is a lefty maybe add an ambi safety so we could both enjoy shooting it. I also want to practice shooting and manipulating a firearm with my non-dominate hand.

No. They will not allow you to carry anything that isn't standard issue. It is mostly for those situations when you run out of ammo, your battle buddies can bring you M9 and M4/16 mags so you can load up and get back in the fight. If you have a USP, and everyone else has an M9, after 45 rounds you are dry, your gun is useless.

The hk45 made me a fan of hk for life. I finally just got a usp45 and I like the usp more. Something about that classic usp feel. Now if I could find a usp45 compact. I would like to hear your thoughts on how the HK45 was introduced in part to be an improved form of the USP.. do you feel that it is an overall improvement to the USP, or does it fall short of that statement made by HK... I have both and absorbs love both.. I am just as accurate with each of them..the biggest difference I see is the recoil assembly and number of rounds they hold.. do you feel overall that the HK45 is an improvement, for both full size and compact??

Great vid, very in depth, my biggest issue with the usp was the rail. I want to put a stream light or viridian laser light combo on the pistol with out some adaptor. The new hk45 allows that. If I could send my old usp 45 in and have them replace the lower receiver, I would never have thought twice about the new hk45. It's a large pistol, so you would have to be a big dude to wear it concealed. Hey is that an Hk in your pocket or are you just happy to see me.

The P2000SK is a great gun, but if you don't already have a full size or compact duty pistol. A dedicated sidearm, I wouldn't stick with the SK. The HK45, USP 45, and HK P30 in 9mm are all three great guns. I strongly recommend either of the 3. The USP 45 is a solid fighting gun, and has lots of options as far as holsters, and parts. The HK45 is also a great fighting gun. The P30, is a very nice pistol, and is very accurate, but the trigger is kinda long. If you like the SK trigger, then P30.
