I just have to tell you Marly, with all the videos out there on crocheting.....you have to be hands down the best presenter. Your videos are so clear and well done. You explain everything you are doing and why. I hope you never stop, thank you for making me a better crocheter!!!!
I just started this pattern. I also downloaded the written pattern to follow along. I am glad you did this video because thete is an error in Row 4 on the written pattern. In Row 4, it tells you to "skip ch-2 space" after you do the 5 dc's and ch-3's. This should say "skip ch-3 space." The second error says to "shell in next ch-3 space." The instruction should say " shell in next ch-2 space." This pattern has been out for quite some time. I am stunned that either no one noticed this error, or that it was never corrected in the pattern!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU,THANK YOU!!! My grandmother showed me how to do the pineapple stitch thirty five years ago and she passed fifteen years ago and for the life of i could not remember how to do this pattern. I wanted to put this pattern into a shawl and could not do this for the lat ten years! Thank you for this video! You Have made me so happy!!! Please keep showing the How To Do videos. You are a great teacher! THANK YOU!! I Can Not wait to make this shawl...
Thanks so much for the fantastically clear and helpful instructions for this pattern. I made two of these shawls, one for my sister and one for my friend, and both shawls turned out great and have been much loved by their recipients. I can have a really hard time wrapping my head around written patterns without any visual aids, but your instructions gave me all the guidance I needed to understand the written pattern.
Hey there ladies! Did you know that you can tap on the top right corner of the video to slow it down? Just tap the 3 dots, then tap playback speed. You will then choose your preferred speed. I usually choose 0.75 when I'm crocheting along and it's perfect! I hope this helps! Have a blessed day and happy crocheting!
Some people have a gift for teaching and others don't. You certainly have the gift. I watch and learn from your tutorials even if I don't intend to make that particular project.
I am from England. I also found you by accident thankfully.😄 I was wondering if you could do this pattern in mohair? Thankyou for your videos. Ime a newby to crocheting and find you very easy to listen to. Dawn
I love this shawl, it's so pretty, and I'm really enjoying the pattern, you are such a wonderful instructor, I'm going to part 2 now 🥰 thank you for sharing!
Love the way you explaine your work. An the way you hold your needle. Im 75 yrs old crocheted since i was 10 this is the way ive allways held my needle an yarn. Gods blessings. Keep up the beautiful work.
Jayden, I have to agree with your comment Marly does have that great gift for teaching. I've seen several patterns of this stitch but thought it was kinda difficult. After watching this first video I'm going to give it a try. This pattern reminds me of the Virus Shawl pattern. When I first tried it, it seemed complicated. But after I got going it turned out to be very simple because after the first 5 rows you could see the repeat. Thanks Marly for making this pattern easy for me.
There are a zillion creators out here walking you through various projects step by step on UA-cam (which I think is great, btw, because different people might click with a different way of explaining something) and I feel like all of them can talk you through a specific project to varying degrees of success. But when I make something of yours, I feel like I learn how to make that specific item, but I also get to take away something, whether it's a technique or idea or concept or whatever, that is then part of how I crochet or think about crochet, and I can apply it to other things I make. You have a particular gift for that, and I think that's rare to see. Anyone can teach you to make a specific item but not everyone can make you a better crocheter WHILE working with you on that item.
Thank you so much. Your comment is a blessing this morning as in another video somebody left a comment and called me a "teacher" with the quotes...as if I am not one. So thank you. Your words mean so much!
@@MarlyBird aww, Marly, that sucks. You are absolutely a teacher and probably top 10 if not top 5 on all of crafting UA-cam for exactly the reason I mentioned. You also just have this really genuine and kind presence and you're so encouraging and sometimes even when I'm not even crocheting, or I'm working on something totally different than what you're doing, I just put your videos on because I find them comforting. I recently moved to a new place where I don't know anyone and I feel isolated and depressed, which I know will get better with time, but I've been having a really rough time and your videos have helped a lot. Please never underestimate the value of your presence on this platform, or in this world.
I would have never tried this without your video, but I just finished row 5 & things are going well! (I'm kind of new at crochet, but this shawl is so beautiful I couldn't resist.) The video is fast for a beginner, so I watched it 3 times and almost had it memorized & then I started crocheting. You explained the pattern clearly & I'm actually enjoying the challenge. Thank you so much for the videos. Next stop: Studying part 2!
Finally!...someone who holds the hook pencil style. so many tutorials use knife style and it just seems so awkward to me. Also, you and I might be the only two who keep the hook turned downward. So many keep rotating the hook, which is wasted motion (when they could be crocheting!)
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this tutorial!!! A friend wants this shawl to use as a wedding veil and then later as a shawl, so I wanted very much to get it right. You are an amazing teacher/designer! xoxoxox
EXCELLENT EXPLAINATIONS ! Thank you ! Didn't know these were available and will be beginning new fun projects ! Next time I'm 'out' in the public I'll find the yarn I hope I can find = =} yippee !!! BTW ~ watching you is much easier than reading the patterns ! Carry on Marly ~ great find !!!
I really do love this shawl! I have been crocheting for many years and consider myself at an intermediate level. I have no issues following written instructions and I have created my own crochet patterns. Crochet charts are just not my thing, never have been and probably never will be. The written instructions has an error in Row 4. Struggling I thought is was me making the mistake I referred to your video to get past row 4 to row7 with the written instructions. Holy Cow you go fast! You explain things very well, but slow Down! I struggled more listening and following then I did with Row 4! BTW, I saw that a year ago someone found the error and it was to be corrected, it never was. Let's get this updated for other people! Might same them some time if they can't read charts, like me,or struggle to follow along in your video.
Hello dear Marly... i m so, so glad to have found your tutorial, i will follow until i get to make such beautiful garment, thank you very much for your time, your patience and your kindness to teach us how to crochet, warmest greetings from Peru! this is LIliana, my best wishes for you, may GOD bless your hands!
Thanks for this tutorial, I am a complete beginner, I won't be making the shawl however I now know how to make increases in the pineapple stitch for when I make a baby dress.
A big thanks for this video and pattern, been crocheting for around a year now and loved to take the next step, by learning supported by this video how to work with pattern schemes. Glad of the results, although i think took a too thin yarn and will take sometime to get to the end :-) A Truly Thank You
Yes! The chart is helpful! You will see that the rep of rows 7-9 are shown on the chart in rows 10-12. So if you're following the chart and rely on the rows lining up, repeat rows 7-12 of the chart which will count as two full repeat s of 7-9... I hope that's clear 😁
Thanks for making this so easy to understand. What I did to help me remember what row I was on to repeat---I wrote 7-8-9 eleven times and crossed it off when I completed a row.
Marly, it would be lovely to see the shawl laid out so that we can see it's final shape and size. Fabulous that the Red Heart yarn has so much wool in it so that the shawl will give warmth unlike the acrylic yarns.
Well to be pedantic I think it unlikely. I found the garter stich shawl to be an obtuse triangle which didn't really fit me as I am so skinny and the ends were too long for a skinny person so I would prefer to stitch a shawl that was more acute and closer to an equilateral or even an isosceles triangle. :D
+Amanda Jane I can totally appreciate that. This shawl increases on the outside and center at the same rate so it is more equilateral :). You can always stop working the repeats sooner to make it smaller as well :) I hope that helps.
Pretty nails, Pretty bracelet, Oh yes! and love the pattern for this beautiful shawl! I suppose Micheal's is in my immediate future! ....... LOL! Thank you Marly I will be following along soon....... :) :)
Hi Marly, I love your videos. The clarity is great. The speed happens to be just right for me but then again you have videos that suit all levels and speeds and that's why you're so awesome. Two things about this particular pattern on Red Heart. I think that -- 1) At the beginning of rows 6 and 8, "slip stitch to" the proper space is missing 2) In row 5, in the last ch-2 space it should be (shell, dc), and not just dc.
Hi Marly for some reason I wanna crochet something Lacey although it’s nearly winter lol. This pattern is super TY for your videos on this they both will be helpful as always ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey Marly, I love the Pineapple Shawl very pretty. I am having a difficult time seeing stitches. I know it is difficult to crochet and show stitches. You crochet very fast. Crochet is not my craft of choice but I just love this shawl.
Could you please tell me the difference between the gray pineapple shawl and if you used worsted weight yarn as you did in this sample would the pattern be close ❣I love all your tutorials, and your voice is so lovely. Your teaching method is so easy to follow
I love this pattern! I'm allergic to wool so I'm using 'Woolike Simil-laine'( superfine yarn #1, 85% acrylic 15% nylon) in Denim Blue ... Absolutely beautiful! Thank you!
McDuffie Marjié I’ve got lots of this yarn did you hold it together or just one strand? I like the yarn just haven’t found anything to do with it yet maybe I have now.😊
thank you for the wonderful work you share with your viewers. I am so grateful for the vedios you show . They are excellent. Please show some patterns of laces or edgings.May the Good Lord bless you abundantly. thank the bye.
That was a great demo of the piece. It helps great for beginners like me. May I know how many yarn rolls I would require to have the big piece you showed in the video? Can I use two different colors,
This is a beautiful timeless design. I recommend watching the video first not crocheting, then use the pattern not watching the video when you are crocheting so you can go at your own pace.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something in row 5, to row 6. When you stop row 5 it's finishes on a shell but when you start row 6 it looks like it's in to a chain? I'm fairly new but I managed fine until this point. It's probably just me but help would be great because it's lovely so far.
Hi. I just wanted to know- after row 9, do I repeat rows 7-9 12 more times and THEN do row 10-12 and finish off? Or do I do row 10-12 after row 9 and only AFTER row 12 I repeat 7-9 12 times and then finish off?
Hi Marly Bird. Do you have any simple easy cat 1 yarn projects? I have three rolls of this 1 weight yarn that I cannot seem to find anything simply to do with it. 🤷🏻♀️ Can you help? I have tried three different shawls and I cannot get it to stay centered. 😥
Hi Marly! Thank you for this great video. I have a question: Have you made your shawl (the one you wear) with heart & sole skyscraper color? it's so beautiful!
I love this pattern! Thanks for the video! The only problem is that I got so into it that I nearly forgot I have to make my grandson a puppy first ... or maybe a polar bear?
Me: Turning on Marly Bird. Hubby: You an that Marly Bird! Even though I've had brain surgery, I still watch you Marly! He knows the music, so I can't sneak!
Easy peasy and so beautiful. Gonna make this. What yarn are wearing? One skein or are you holding two yarns a black and white threads together? Thanks for getting me interested on crochet again.
Hi Marly. I love watching your videos and would love to try making this shawl for my daughter and daughter-in-law. For the vegan crocheters among us, could you please suggest a substitute yarn made of non-animal fibers that would work equally well? Thanks so much! And, thanks for your videos.
+Janet Weeks hahah, thanks. I seriously love them too! There is something about sparkle that I just LOVE LOVE LOVE! I want to get Heart and Sole SPARKLE! I need to talk to Red Heart about making that :-)
Really fast video. Like her a lot though. Had to stop and start many times and video always went back to beginning? I really want to make this, so I will persist. On to part two! Yeah. Thank you.
You would get a different look but it would be pretty. You also wouldn't need to do as many repeats. If you choose to do that it might be a good idea to do a single crochet edging along the wingspan.
Hi there! If you are using wool you can do either one. If you are asking me what I would do...I prefer to wetblock. I like to give the yarn a nice bath and wash off all the oils and dirt that is has accumulated while it was made/worked. Plus, the wool wash I use smells so good :-) I did a video here on the Marly Bird UA-cam channel for blocking if you are interested.
Hi... i need a little help..i am new to crochet and really get confused with different kinds of wool if i want to use a different kind of wool which one can i use? I want to make a thin..lacy kind of shawl... Please help..
Himangini = Don't know if you found what you needed BUT I'd suggest you visit a real yarn shop and explain to them what you need. There are several locally where I live and I think any of the ladies in them can answer your yarn question. Good luck.
I know that I worked relatively fast on this one but I figured since it was an intermediate/experienced pattern I could go faster. Thank you for the compliment.
Thank you Marly for a very clear and fun instruction.

I love this shawl, it's so pretty, and I'm really enjoying the pattern, you are such a wonderful instructor, I'm going to part 2 now 🥰 thank you for sharing!

Hey...could you also use The shawl in a ball yarn
Thanks for the great video tutorial. I crocheted along with you and my shawl is coming along nicely :). Stay inspired!
I love, love, love this pattern. Can't wait to get started on this! Thanks.
Beautiful 🤩 I’m new here but planning to stay I like your tutoring so easy to follow 👍

Where do I see how to complete the Shawl. With the Caron yarn I completed but do not know how to bind off.
I like the yarn just haven’t found anything to do with it yet maybe I have now.😊
Hi Jeanna Kelly! I just use one strand for my shawl, however, you may enjoy using several strands together, if you prefer. 😊
Hello! Beautiful cloth, thanks for the instructions.
Greetings from Germany. how many meters of yarn do i need? Greetings Andrea
Love this pattern.i sold 2 as the same pattern
thank you for the wonderful work you share with your viewers. I am so grateful for the vedios you show . They are excellent. Please show some patterns of laces or edgings.May the Good Lord bless you abundantly. thank the bye.
Hello mam . May I get that exactly same shawl patter that u shown at last . That one is pretty attractive 😍 I find this patter little different one .
love the "tippity top"
That was a great demo of the piece. It helps great for beginners like me. May I know how many yarn rolls I would require to have the big piece you showed in the video? Can I use two different colors,
This is a beautiful timeless design.
I recommend watching the video first not crocheting, then use the pattern not watching the video when you are crocheting so you can go at your own pace.
would love for you to do a tutorial with pattern LC4086 Falling Leaves Shawl.
I will add that to my list.
Awesome! I've been having a hard time with it.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something in row 5, to row 6. When you stop row 5 it's finishes on a shell but when you start row 6 it looks like it's in to a chain? I'm fairly new but I managed fine until this point. It's probably just me but help would be great because it's lovely so far.
Is your Double crochet our Treble? Sorry, new to this!
how can I convert this pattern to a rectangular wrap as opposed to a triangle shawl?
fantástico todo.me lo puedes mandar en español? y quisiera ver top, de jóvenes,en hilos de verano porfa?gracias.
Do you think this would look too muddied if I tried a mandala skien?
Beautiful, could you please give me the final size of the shawl, the average size for an adult women?
Hi. I just wanted to know- after row 9, do I repeat rows 7-9 12 more times and THEN do row 10-12 and finish off?
Or do I do row 10-12 after row 9 and only AFTER row 12 I repeat 7-9 12 times and then finish off?
Just finished mine...
Yay! I can finally hear this!
Merhaba şema yok mu acaba 5. Ve 6 .sırada bir karışıklık mi var kenarlarda çekilen 6 zincir kafamı karıştırdı teşekkür ederim
Can I use crochet thread to make this? If so how many skeins should I use?
what hooks you users
What is the best size yarn? I've tried 4 and 1 but can't find a pretty color in any other size.
if u please. ..how much yarn it took to make it
Hi Marly! Thank you for this great video. I have a question: Have you made your shawl (the one you wear) with heart & sole skyscraper color? it's so beautiful!
Your nails are gorgeous
great tutorial ..but wow!!! just wow maam ..do you know how many words did u say in this video ???
I love this pattern! Thanks for the video! The only problem is that I got so into it that I nearly forgot I have to make my grandson a puppy first ... or maybe a polar bear?
Me: Turning on Marly Bird. Hubby: You an that Marly Bird! Even though I've had brain surgery, I still watch you Marly! He knows the music, so I can't sneak!
Hello I think I put my question in the wrong spot before but I wanted to know if you could also use the Shawl in a ball yarn for this pattern?
I’m not familiar with that yawn so I can’t say. But you could use It’s a Wrap yarn.
you have a nice shawl is it the pineapple
Thank you so much for doing this video. I just have one question would it be alright if I sell what I make from this pattern?
As far as I know, Red Heart is okay with that but to be sure, you will need to contact them.
ok thank you😊
What other yarn can we use? I'm allergic to wool...
You could use any fingering weight yarn.
❤️ Thank You ❤️
Row 4 where you start to build the pineapple - you are saying "double crochet chain three" but the pattern states (sc, ch 3)
This was a mistake on the pattern and has been updated. It should be (DC, ch3). :)
I haven't seen the correction on the pattern.
It should be up later today.
Easy peasy and so beautiful. Gonna make this. What yarn are wearing? One skein or are you holding two yarns a black and white threads together? Thanks for getting me interested on crochet again.
All the yarn information is in the pattern. I used Heart and Sole for the shawl. One strand.
I was not able to download the lacey pineapple shawl from redheart how can I do this.
Where do I find the written pattern?
Hi Marly. I love watching your videos and would love to try making this shawl for my daughter and daughter-in-law. For the vegan crocheters among us, could you please suggest a substitute yarn made of non-animal fibers that would work equally well? Thanks so much! And, thanks for your videos.
Ang fingering weight yarn will work..go with a bamboo, silk or cotton :)
Thank you so much!!! Oh yes, and I also love your nail polish and glittery tips. ;)
+Janet Weeks hahah, thanks. I seriously love them too! There is something about sparkle that I just LOVE LOVE LOVE! I want to get Heart and Sole SPARKLE! I need to talk to Red Heart about making that :-)
How many SKEINS???
Really fast video. Like her a lot though. Had to stop and start many times and video always went back to beginning? I really want to make this, so I will persist. On to part two! Yeah. Thank you.
Would this pattern look good with a slightly thicker yarn? I'm working with a blue thick yarn, but I'm not sure if it would look great😬
And I'm using a 6.5 mm hook
You would get a different look but it would be pretty. You also wouldn't need to do as many repeats. If you choose to do that it might be a good idea to do a single crochet edging along the wingspan.
Marly Bird alright, thanks!
Would 100% cotton work? I have this lovely Alize Diva yarn that is thin.
absolutely.
On this particular planet, our primary unit of measure is the pineapple.
Can you steam block this item or do you recommend wet blocking?
+Marly Bird Thanks. I will check out the video. Am using Alize Lana Gold 800 yarn, which is a wool acrylic blend.
Then I would NOT Steam Block it until you watch my video :-)
Hi... i need a little help..i am new to crochet and really get confused with different kinds of wool
if i want to use a different kind of wool which one can i use?
I want to make a thin..lacy kind of shawl... Please help..
Himangini = Don't know if you found what you needed BUT I'd suggest you visit a real yarn
shop and explain to them what you need. There are several locally where I live and I think any
of the ladies in them can answer your yarn question. Good luck.
U knit Very fast, but thank u very much!they r wonderful😃
I know that I worked relatively fast on this one but I figured since it was an intermediate/experienced pattern I could go faster. Thank you for the compliment.
Esta muy bonita pero me gustaría que lo traducieras al español
