I was up in a pecan tree today and needed a new canopy anchor. Thought I should do my choke around the tree without abusing a carabiner and so I had to tie a standard alpine butterfly first then recreate the running version. Took me a while as I don't climb trees very often. Your method is more fool-proof than what I did today.
This is how instructions should be! I always get confused depending on my perspective on the knot, what side or direction loops and knots are started, etc. Your steps are clear enough so i can tie from any direction or side. Thank you!
This is a pretty bombproof instruction. It is easy to tie this wrong and addressing the wrong ways let me recognize when I was failing to tie it correctly and get back on the right track. I use this knot attach a backup rope around a skinny tree when I need to spur up and cut something before I descend and cut the tree down. When you have a lot of things going on, branches, leaves, gear, etc, it is easy to make a mistake and get something wrong.
I have been tying a Bull Hitch and did not know how to tie the alpine thru a hole.......now I have to tie this every morning and night before bed for a few weeks and it is natural ........thanks.
3:49 the important thing is for the working end to enter the overhand knot following the part coming out at the top. IOW, it creates a slipped overhand knot.
Thanks for sharing. I prefer to see a ‘p’ rather than a ‘D’. The wrong or opposite side would then show a ‘q’. Finally I always check whether my knots are ok or not: here, 2 parrallels on one side and 2 crossings on the other side. Rgds.
Nice, but obviously if you were using this technique for a multi point anchor, you'd have to attach the alpine butterfly first and the follow-through figure 8 last, then adjust length for desired sharing of tension.
You witter on too much. Just show the correct positions of the road, loops, etc. You don’t have to show all the incorrect positions with all the explanations of why they would be bad. Just go step by step on how to form the knot and be done with it.
I disagree, when I was first shown the Bowline it was so easy to follow but later when I tried to tie it I kept making mistakes and couldn't understand why. It took me a long time to figure it out so now I never get it wrong. Just a pity someone didn't show me the pitfalls before I started.
Just tie the damn knot lol way too much fluff, this is not that complex of a knot …blah blah blah, the pace of thing a knot or instructing it should never be this slow and drawn out, there is not this much verbiage needed to see how a proper knot is tied
Some knot videos have too much waffle but for me, this was perfectly paced: and every step/comment/ camera angle helped make my learning faster than the all-too-common faster, show-offy style. Remember it’s a rescue knot: details matter.

Thanks Lee O... much appreciated.

Exvelkent method of teaching this. Thank you
A very detailed and crystal clear explanation. For the first time I can actually tie it now. THANK YOU! 👍
Explained beautifully, thank you.
Thanks - I really like that with your explanations, I can tie this regardless of the orientation.

Excellent tutorial. Clearly shown and very well explained. Thanks
Very helpful I was looking for a knot to tie my jib sheets and this worked perfectly.
Thank you very much. You explained it so clearly.
You're welcome Joseph & many thanks for the positive comments.
Amazing instruction and thank you very much for making this tricky knot not so tricky anymore :-)
Thank you!
Thanks for the video! Subbed!
Great instruction 🙂
amazing. thank you.
Is there a reason you would use the alpine butterfly knot here? Rather than some other configuration?

Thats exactly right Jeff.
most confusing i've seen explained. lol
Your instructing style is very good. Please redo this video and show us only the right way to do each step. Thanks.
👍👍👍
OK.
You should have been explained only how to do it right, rather than confusing with how not to do .
I Totally Disagree With You!

Do your own perfect video. Perhaps ask for your money back too.
