I just took the arborist exam and my knots were the area I scored lowest in... I wish I saw this video BEFORE I took my exam!!! Thank you for doing this!
Nick, you guys are doing a phenomenal job with these videos. Production quality is top notch, the visual aids are perfect, and your explanation is concise and to the point. Very well spoken sir.
Even the way I tie my running bowline. I don't have to pull the entire rope through. But I do like that way and look forward on tieing it that way tomorrow in the field. I was always aware of that method. Just always stuck with what I knew. But shaving seconds is shaving hours.
I know the Blake from the knot! Lol One of the very few newly invented knots that isn't in the Ashley Book of Knots, or just a variation of one of them. Invented by one of the Blake brothers in Northern California, a tree worker, he figured out a better knot for climbing, and got to name it.
Nice video Nick. When doing the bowline you looked a bit like a magician as it wasn't real easy to see the way you tied it how you liked to tie it. I like that way too as I believe most who know it do. Have a great week.
@@NickBonner welcome. You do it better than I do, that's why I don't have any videos doing it 😃. Maybe if you don't again a camera angle from above your hands would help. Regardless the video is a great resource for many and I will recommend it to others just learning. Have a great day.
@@brettblack7049 I agree, I'm a newbie here and trying to understand the knot from the front view get's a little confusing. I think an overhead shot would improve the visibility. Thanks Nick for putting out this knowledge for new jack's like me. ~ Peace~
@@ahadmuhammad687 Good afternoon(at least here in Mi, not sure where you are). Here's a link to a video that shows it a bit better; ua-cam.com/video/NGBqixdubyU/v-deo.html He also has many other helpful videos. Are you learning to climb, working on a crew, or what are you using the knots for. Brett
@@brettblack7049 thanks for that info. Actually I’m in MI also, just starting out at the tree climbing academy. Trying to get my brain around learning these basic knots.
I love the educational videos so much so that I deal with the bs the site puts me through to order from them doesn't hurt they have the largest selection and 9/10 X's what I want is in stock but ever since the merger the purchasing experience is 🚮
I'm sorry but tbh I had a hard time understanding your explanations. I would recommend repetition and having a closer angle on the knots. I found it a bit confusing as a beginner
Hey Nick. You made a common mistake on the yosemite tie off. Following the line back around and going up your tail goes on the left side of your up rope. See Educated Climber yosemite tie off revisited for the possible problems with the common mistake you made.
So frustrated. I slowed the playback to 50% and watched over and over. Can't tie a bowline the way you show. You make it look so simple yet i can't do it. Your way is very confusing. I get the loop on the wrong side every time. Your hands block the rope so i can't see where it goes. None of the links work to your other videos. I click on them and nothing happens.
1:45 For... the love of god... stop using the bowline in life support situations. By definition, any knot that you are having to make more secure by adding some sort of "finish" to is an *insecure* knot!
Don't understand the rationale of adding security to the bowline when it is already extremely secure. It's an unnecessary overkill in my humble opinion.
This will definitely be useful for me because we have a recent project for wood tree swings and we need a strong foundation of rope. We will soon purchase the materials from treeswingstore.com and will apply your techniques here.
Aspiring climber here
No one at work would teach me this
These videos help a lot!!
Thank you
That's probably the easiest explanation of the basic knots I've seen, well done.
Thank you!
3 and a half minutes in and im off to climb a tree. Best tutorial ever😂

Where do you take that exam
Nick, excellent demonstration of the bowline, alpine butterfly, Blake's Hitch, & girth hitch.
Thanks!

I loved your different view on tying some of the knots… idk why I’ve always had a hard time with them. Thanks.
Ive always had to teach knots tied 2 diff ways alot of people can't get one way but a pro the other way
thank you so much. you’re a great teacher.
I love making a running bowline without pulling the whole line through. So much easier. You've explained it perfectly!

Great Imstructional Bud. Thank You 🙏
Nick, looks like you brought your Yosemite finish up on the right of your standing line and I believe it should always end up on the left
Ive always tied it the way I showed.
Should add in the hand method for the alpine butterfly and the one handed method for the bowling. 👍

Running bowline is extremely handy. I used it for a slackline setup. Are there other knots like the bowline knot?
couldn't miss the Smoke Jumper cap. I'm ex military paratrooper, were you a Smoke Jumper?
I was not, it was a gift from jumper who watches our videos. Very dear to me!

I learned knots from a summer camp!
Forgive my ignorance guys. Can someone please tell me what that chrome piece is at the end is that he cowhitched? Thanks

Good video except tying knots in 1 second is not helpful at all
camera to far, and you are moving to fast
