Discovered this guy today, I'm on an overdose of Mike Massé!!!! Perfect covers, because they are and are not the same. The vocals and the acoustic guitar, perfection.

This dude pulls off so many ranges effortlessly.....and his a pretty badass guitarist too. He (or they) should be packing ARENAS nationwide instead of pizzerias in SLC
There's this continuum of recreating vs. re-imagining, if you will. Some people are happy with different ends of that spectrum, while others prefer something in the middle. Most of my covers are much closer to the recreating side, but for many songs, the acoustic arrangement requires a fair amount of re-imagining (or at least prioritizing). There are people out there doing more inventive arrangements, but those can be hit and miss, depending on how far it strays from what people loved. My $.02.
There's a reason the originals were hits. Your covers honor that. The fact that you can be so faithful to the originals of so many different styles is incredible. The vocals are so clean and the playing is so tight. You're truly a world-class talent, Mike! Please don't stop what you're doing!

Nailed it. I prefer to hear something I love to sound as close to original as possible including tempo. You nail the bpm (beats per minute) on the songs and singing along with you is exactly as I would sing it with the album. Check out Paul Forrest if you like Jethro Tull or The Fab Four Band if you enjoy Beatles recreations. They do solid jobs on recreating the song and performance. I prefer your laid back “pizza joint” performances because they nail the feel and sound of the original yet you are not over performing or getting cheesy with the delivery. I call it under-promising and over-delivering. You do a fine job of that. There is something very cool about the campfire guy who can pull off a perfect Beatles, Radiohead, David Bowie, U2 performance.
Mike, even after 10+ years I still find myself coming back to these vids after some bourbon and waking up the neighbors with me trying to keep up with your octave range. Classic covers of the best songs of our generation. It's crazy but I'll listen to your covers before I listen to the originals.

The beginning sounds so peaceful
As someone who has tried to sing this song for 30 years i can attest how hard this is for any male to try to match vocally. His pitch is unique as fuck. In fact watching this version actually helped me on some of the difficult notes within it.

Amazingly Done. I sure do miss Blind Melon. Rediscovering them after all these years. I saw them play at Woodstock 94 and had tickets to see them at the 40 Watt Club in Athens Ga in Fall 95 when I lived there but obviously that show was canceled due to his untimely but apparently almost expected and not surprising death. While I was writing this I stopped and laughed when you said Oh that was hard to sing. I bet it was. He gets pretty high and I know now at 40 I cant come close to catching those high notes anymore, well not loud I cant. Is it me or is it weird about that song Soul One. Obviously that song wasnt about his daughter but its timing feels like it was but unintentionally. Maybe it was about his daughter who knows. But its really weird yet sad where he says Never had a chance to say goodbye and he dies just a few months after her birth. Another great musician wasted away to the lifestyles of rock n roll. RIP to all the greats that passed before their time. Anywho glad I found your site. Adding you to favs and sure are going to be sharing on my facebook. Not usually one to listen to cover bands, well except the Molly Ringwalds but thats mainly because they play here in Louisiana so many times a year. But you sir can sing. Amazing vocals bro. Wish I would have not been so fearful as a youth and would have used mine. 20 years of smoking will kill a voice though. Although I remember this guy Mark.. cant remember his last name, but he played in a local band called the Meat Dingies and he would have to smoke before each show to get his voice all scratchy.
