That's what i love about covers made good. The ones that try to be "original" are 95% worse. Play the same way and show you are as good or better than original. This one is so good btw. Close to original. Perfectly played on emotions during that cover. Great job you guys!
Sorry but I don't agree AT ALL. He DOES add his own style, not only in the way he decorates the melody but also he doesn't sing in the exact times Elton does. It's definitely different from the original song. And that doesn't make it bad, in fact it makes it beautiful and gives sense to the act of making a cover
Their performance is just so well done. The timing, the sound levels, the harmonies - fantastic. The fact that this was recorded in a pizza joint just adds to the awesomeness. I love music, but this video makes me appreciate it even more.
The Pie was my late night go-to during the early 2000s. I must have seen Mike perform a dozen or-so times. I always made requests and dropped a few bucks in the tip jar. My friends and I knew his covers were something special. 74-75 (connells) is still my fav.
come ON this cover is craaaazy good! made me cry so hard, my dad used to play this in the car when i was a kid. lost him last spring. here's looking up to you dad!
most of the time "more talent=more famous" is not the case.....proves that there are still millions of gems out there in different lines of life. The famous ones were just given the opportunity. Talent not given opportunity is wasted...so sad. Thank God for youtube.
Makes my heart bleed - such great musicians and so well rehearsed performing to morons who when the song has ended decide a long time after to give some applause. You guys are great. Amazing voices and superb performance. We had a trio years back and were performing to one guy in the bar - in the break I went up to him and asked him if he was enjoying it - he was totally deaf. Can be kind of frustrating.
BWAHAHAAHAHAHAHHA That was funny, man! Well, that's the price you pay to be a musician: one day, people will go the place where you're performing at, so they can hear you. And that doesn't necessarily implies beign famous to do so; the other day, however, people won't just give a heck. That's the way it it. It's like forgetting the name of surgeon who saved your life!
Doing what you love has a high price to pay Some put on a suit, but he ran the other way His drums drown out the yuppies And the one's who couldn't dream Cause the freedom music gave him was worth more than anything They don't know What they got Until it's gone Like it or not You live on love Try to do what's right We're all here waiting for our silver invitation To the big band in the sky Rolling down the windows Trying hard to fight the sleep Money's never much for a band in Tennessee Another night of playing To a crowd with no ears Who only hear the songs they know And fill their bellies full of beer But they don't know What they got Until it's gone Like it or not You live on love You try to do what's right We're all here waiting for our silver invitation To the big band in the sky And when he closed his eyes He fell into a dream that never dies And when the thunder comes You can hear his kick drum in the sky Feel the rain Fall from our eyes Cause we don't know What we got Until it's gone Like it or not You live on love You try to do what's right For him there's no more waiting Got his silver invitation Just to do a little playing For the big band in the sky "Lance's Song" by Zac Brown Band
For a decade and a half I've been following you and listening to your awesome performances and I just want to tell you that you've brought me great cathartic enjoyment. Thank you, Mike.
In the name of all that is holy, why don't you have a contract? You are so much truer to the music than 99% of the people doing this stuff. (I'm a classical singer, and don't get me started about the lack of relationship between money, talent and integrity...)
Right on. I'm just getting started trying to break into the industry and the people I'm in contact with are completely disconnected with the music. not even true to themselves.... this guy is as real as it gets!
This is the best cover of linger, connected my tv to speaker, listened to it 100 times, boy it was perfect, they sang it with a soul. Brenda sang it as if its her own story, and that innocent smile at the end❤. My wife ask me if im in love wd brenda, why i watch a hundred times😂. mike , the best harmony always, wish i could also do that. The bassist was on spot, heard him back up in africa song, that was another perfect one. The other linger they sang was not this perfect, guess its very hard to repeat a perfect live one. Hello from🇵🇭.
I can’t believe after one of the greatest live performances by anyone ever, the crowd basically forgot to clap. I have to laugh because it’s capture here for everyone to truly enjoy. Imagine being there in person and not noticing at all.
She packed my bags last night pre-flight Zero hour nine AM And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then I miss the earth so much I miss my wife It's lonely out in space On such a timeless flight And I think it's gonna be a long long time 'Till touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home Oh no no no I'm a rocket man Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long long time 'Till touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home Oh no no no I'm a rocket man Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids In fact it's cold as hell And there's no one there to raise them if you did And all this science I don't understand It's just my job five days a week A rocket man, a rocket man And I think it's gonna be a long long time 'Till touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home Oh no no no I'm a rocket man Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long long time 'Till touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home Oh no no no I'm a rocket man Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Wow!
I love these videos with Jeff in Pie Pizza, they have a special aura (beyond the great music), something like if you were thinking "these are the happiest moments of my life, when I'm free, flying through the waves of music. I hope someday I can quit my day job and dedicate my life to music...". Cheers from Argentina!
Oh, funny seeing you here, man. I like your stuff. Your first Minecraft video helped me sleep for many, many nights. Enjoy this cover again, it’s a great video
É uma das melhores interpretações que já vi desta música aqui no UA-cam. Tudo perfeito. Voz impecável e de uma grande afinação. Parabéns pela execução.
The song is AMAZING! I LOVE the end at 4:00 with the oooooooo sound and the softer voices it's like wooow I'm so captured by the song it almost pisses me off they did not clap any HARDER!!!!!!
It was such heartbreaking news to hear about the pain this man endured! Truly a blessed under appropriated musician whose life seemed to almost be cursed . Such a tragedy and remember upon hearing the news it was the first time a stranger I only knew through his covers on youtube touched me personally. Hopefully, he's in a better place now.
In October I travelled to Salt Lake City with my wife from California to see Mike Masse, Jeff Hall and the rest of the crew at the Ice Haus. They were unbelievable. They played for about three and a half hours and were better than their video's. Mike Masse was a real professional who made time for everyone who had come to see the show. I look forward to another adventure to see him again.

Hoping to exchange musical
ideas with you good sir.
How can we connect with you?
Thanks!
Yes..gonna come see y'all in Fairfield Ohio this summer
I bet he could sing anything!! 💜
I love how this has 2.4M views and yet the live audience was as enthusiastic as a wet blanket. Sometimes it's not you, it's the crowd that sucks. :)
Nah, theyre just speechless
Sometimes people don’t know how lucky they are. If I saw this duo in a pizzeria I’d be gobsmacked
But this pizza place Is special
Russian bots programmed to divide and distress us. This is awesome.
gav240z true that!
Jeff's bass playing really shines on this one. It may not be super complicated, but his timing and way of playing is spot-on.
+Indy The Great Yeah, he plays for the music, you can hear it, and that's brilliant !
A quality bass player is a treasure. There's a reason they're in demand.
lol .. not super complicated?...that's not what their going for here ,, this is simply and amazing performance!!
I thought he was Garfunkel
Listening in 2020 and it’s making everything feel alright. Incredible cover all around bass, guitar and vocals spot on guys!!!
You deserve a standing ovation for that cover!!!
Not many people can bring a song like that to life with 2 instruments. Awesome!
3 instruments, the voice do really count.
You are amazing, Mike. 2024 and I still finding myself wanting to listen to your covers. Rock on brother.
Its just a beautiful cover. No gimmicks, no extras. Just the voice, the melody and the energy. Love it.
And what voice... (!)
Couldn’t agree more to hear just a really good cover of this cosmic song
That's what i love about covers made good. The ones that try to be "original" are 95% worse. Play the same way and show you are as good or better than original. This one is so good btw. Close to original. Perfectly played on emotions during that cover. Great job you guys!
You two have inspired me to go take a trip out to Utah just to watch you two live. You guys are awesome! :-)
Elizabeth Rios Mike moved to the Denver, CO area. May want to hold off on that Utah trip. ;)
Mike Jones But Salt Lake is lovely this time of year, so it wouldn't be a completely wasted trip.
Mike Masse Not getting to see you live would be a big let down though, Mike. :)
Mike Masse Are you performing at local places in the Denver area still ? You should be on the big stages around the country / world.
Mike Masse hey mike nice Martin. I have HD28, how much is yours with cut away, and how does it compare to D28?
3:18, he did it perfectly!
Bass player's harmony so subtle but adds so much
So gorgeous
This is 11 years old and still my favorite cover by FAR!
Yes... Me too
And I’m confident there will never be one. This is better than Elton Johns “cover” 😜
that dude KILLLLLED it on the high notes
This cover is older than me, but I have to say, this is beautiful. I wish my generation had a better appreciation for music.
15 years later still beautiful
Mike's vocals on this are brilliant! Jeff's playing is incredible.
I love how he sings it accurately and doesn’t add his own style. Best cover ever
I know what you mean, baby
@@CotitaYea, the core of the song is there but they do add their own flavor which is great, a new take done tastefully is never a bad thing.
probably one of the best covers ever made, I'd be mad psyched if I was eating there that night!
Omar Samra. I would be madd psyched to be eating there or anywhere these played on any night
Listen to totos Africa cover. Omg!!!
@@mstewart109 That shit is INSANE
With you on that...
Their performance is just so well done. The timing, the sound levels, the harmonies - fantastic. The fact that this was recorded in a pizza joint just adds to the awesomeness. I love music, but this video makes me appreciate it even more.
I just saw this for the first time yesterday and have watched it over and over. Absolutely fantastic!
The Pie was my late night go-to during the early 2000s. I must have seen Mike perform a dozen or-so times. I always made requests and dropped a few bucks in the tip jar. My friends and I knew his covers were something special. 74-75 (connells) is still my fav.
No way! I was listenning Africa, and now it´s swiching to this and the tone of voice is incredible! Cheers!
Wow, I guess I have a lot of videos to watch. This is the third and I'm hooked!
Banshee Moon you have great taste my friend. Great voice this man has.

We are hooked on you Mrs. Moon!!
The harmonies the bass player does are fantastic!
This man can sing--absolutely--what a great sound-and everything he sings is GOLD
15 years, i did miss it!!!
Oh my God! I'm tearing up at the feeling Mike brought to this one. Beeyutiful!
BOOOOOOOM .... This is why UA-cam ROCKS!!!!! These guys blowin it up!!!

I will replay this song in your dads honour. Stay strong my man, I'm sure hes looking down proud as hell

Doing what you love has a high price to pay
Some put on a suit, but he ran the other way
His drums drown out the yuppies
And the one's who couldn't dream
Cause the freedom music gave him was worth more than anything
They don't know
What they got
Until it's gone
Like it or not
You live on love
Try to do what's right
We're all here waiting for our silver invitation
To the big band in the sky
Rolling down the windows
Trying hard to fight the sleep
Money's never much for a band in Tennessee
Another night of playing
To a crowd with no ears
Who only hear the songs they know
And fill their bellies full of beer
But they don't know
What they got
Until it's gone
Like it or not
You live on love
You try to do what's right
We're all here waiting for our silver invitation
To the big band in the sky
And when he closed his eyes
He fell into a dream that never dies
And when the thunder comes
You can hear his kick drum in the sky
Feel the rain
Fall from our eyes
Cause we don't know
What we got
Until it's gone
Like it or not
You live on love
You try to do what's right
For him there's no more waiting
Got his silver invitation
Just to do a little playing
For the big band in the sky
"Lance's Song"
by Zac Brown Band
Hah! To be fair, that's enthusiastic for The Pie.
Oh I so agree! Especially after Africa.. wtf!!
Omg this is literally the best cover i have ever heard, beautiful.
For a decade and a half I've been following you and listening to your awesome performances and I just want to tell you that you've brought me great cathartic enjoyment. Thank you, Mike.
I never comment on anyone's videos, but wow. This is amazing. I got chills.
3:18 Holy goosebumps!
Dislikes here can only be a form of jealousy because this is one of the best covers I've heard of any song! Praise to you guys for your Awesomeness!
Goosebumps every cover they do.....
In the name of all that is holy, why don't you have a contract? You are so much truer to the music than 99% of the people doing this stuff. (I'm a classical singer, and don't get me started about the lack of relationship between money, talent and integrity...)

That intro was BEAUTIFUL and reminds me of David and Roger playing together 🎸💙
You guys don't need a huge stage neither a big crowd, you're 100% truly artists! And once again sir, what a amazing voice you have!
Incredible I still find myself using his older videos for inspiration. Love this set Mike.
I come back to listen to this version very often. Really a great cover!
Me too brother.
perfect - the bass and harmonies really take it to another level
I come back to this 3 or 4 time a year. Fantastic!

“Not the man they think I am, at all...
Oh, No No No No No...”
Beautiful voice.. Wow!
Nice cover
I bet you could sing Tonic like no other.
That's hilarious
Okay play free bird!!!
What a legend, this guy.
this is beautiful 😢

It is better that I wasn't there in person to hear this. I would have bawled my eyes out .. absolute perfection...
It really was moving, great playing by both and singing in the original key was just awesome.
Love the bass on this! Brilliant!
Linda interpretação , Brasil aqui 🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏
That bass.. wow!.. Kind regards to you guys from Ireland.
Mike you have a real talent it's 4 in the morning in the uk and I can't stop listening to these songs, excellent !!!!!!
my only regret is that I can only like this once. Fantastic job
best duo I have ever heard! These guys have a huge symphonic sound!
I really like the background chatter. It makes the song feel even more alive.
Simply.......astronomic! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤝
Your voice is amazing, sir. Also, cheers to the bassist for keeping the magic together!
She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine AM
And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
'Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
'Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
'Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
'Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Top demais 👏 👏 👏
Yes. I heard acoustic versions of this. I’m on it!
Man you have an absolutely terrific voice. Been listening to you for several hours which is something I hardly ever do when it's cover music.
This is just so fantastic, that there are few words that do justice. Fanstastic!
Wow!

Show de bola.
Verdade. Excelente qualidade musical.
Incrivel que eu tive um restaurante nesta mesma rua em Salt Lake City e nunca vi este cara.
reminds me of what music is all about
Very cool vocals....wish I could sing that high!!! Nice control head voice to false.
i can hear the emotion. great cover!
they should release a dvd& cd of these performances!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Great cover. I enjoyed it!
How wonderful! Loveliest cover ever❤
The Jeff's ooohhh ooohhh is so cool
You guys are simply amazing!
I didn't realize how good the bass player was until I plugged my computer into the stereo. Great Job guys !
Um dos melhores cover de Elton John
Wonderful version, Love it
Mike is a real talent, but his mate Jeff completes the overall sound with great harmonies and cool bass lines! A brilliant duo👌
I would love to see you guys live! Beautiful cover, I have watched many on youtube and this one is by far my favorite!
speaking of beautiful . . . 😏
Mike has live virtual shows on You Tube every Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 pm (Mountain time). They are alot of fun. Tune in this weekend.
Esse cara é foda !!!!! abs Carlinhos di Antônio Barbeiro .
I've listened to a few of your covers - you're extremely talented. Such a great voice too.
Wow! 🎉 GREAT JOB ! ❤❤
Wow. Amazing vocals ❤
That guy can sing...
Both voices together are great!! fabulous...a nice sound you guys.
Where are these guys from? Every cover sounds like the artist they cover, like he can not only play the songs like them but sing it as well. Amazing
Salt Lake City I believe...
the guy calling peoples name for pizza actually adds to the song, it sounds like radio chatter

Who the 🤬 could give these the thumbs down?! Killer voices.
