  • Kohima, July 16: Nagaland’s School Education & SCERT advisor Dr. #Kekhrielhoulie Yhome informed that state school education department has 22, 333 employees as on 31st December 2023.
831 employees retired last year, Dr. Yhome said while addressing the inaugural session of state level training programme for District Master Trainers on Mapping of #BEACON schools, Tracking of Learning Progress and Nagaland Literacy & Numeracy Fest 2024 on July 16 in Kohima.
Being the second largest employees after Nagaland Police department, he said, the department spends more money than the police department in terms of “our resources.”
The department got Rs. 830 crore last year with Rs. 4 crore for annual maintenance/ developmental activities and the rest goes to salary component, he said.
The state also got about Rs. 500 crore from Govt of India through Samagra Shiksha, which many goes to salary component, he said.
“The money which we get is huge but we must understand that our infrastructures which were built many years ago are on the verge of collapse,” he said, adding that a team will be sent to all the schools to study the status of the infrastructure.
“We are contemplating that we will soon create a new leadership of running the state of affairs of our education, i.e Nagaland Education Administrative Service, and also Nagaland Education Service,” Dr. Yhome said.
He informed that the department is initiating delimitation of its educational administrative area, for which a team will be accordingly sent to all the schools.
Stating that the department had already obtained the data, the Advisor said the department will try to find out those schools which were merged 30 years ago.
He informed that the department is also taking up with the GoI to do delimitation of Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) in the state.
There are 46 EBRC at present.
“We have created new districts so we need to rationalize our administrative area,” he said.
On the matter of transfer and posting of teachers, he said “We are trying to work out a rational where equity can be there within the teachers.” The department has four categories of employees including Grade 3 and 4 staff.
“We have regular, adhoc, contract and contingency,” he said.
The department will work upon the state’s government proposal to fill up the post for those who had given their service for 10 years, Dr. Yhome added.

Thank you Sir. Hon'ble Advisor SE & SCERT has understood the plight of teachers and students in Mon District and Nagaland as a whole. Distance between Mon and GPS Shinnyu is 196 km. We travel at least 65 km off road to reach Mon. It takes us two days to reach Mon from Shinnyu. No taxi or bus from Shinnyu to Mon😅

Please handle the proxy teacher scam. Getting salary to the tune of 70k to 1 lakh every month but not going to work and doing business elsewhere is not only a crime but sin too.

I wholeheartedly agree with your remark. These fellows receive a handsome salary, yet some don't even grace their workplace with their presence to perform their teaching duties. Most are lounging about in Dimapur, and many are entirely engrossed in their side businesses instead of focusing on their primary job as teachers. While there's nothing inherently wrong with having a side business, they seem to have forgotten that their main occupation is, indeed, being teachers.
