Jason, I'm a long time international speaker who's talks are popular across several cultures from Istanbul to Stuttgart to A Caruna, Spain. It is remarkable that you have outlined just about how I open my talks. In addition, I first engage the audience by looking at them, smiling (which you could use) and talking directly to them. With certain cultures I discovered that they need special permission to engage with you, otherwise they will not ask their questions or otherwise interact. So I might spend a few moments chatting with them and asking them questions. In one culture I actually divide the audience in two and see which side can yell "uno, dos, Tres" the loudest. Seriously. If you are speaking with an audience who's second language is English and you're speaking in English...speak slowly, have modest goals and take the time to give them permission to engage. Thank you very much for your concise and inspiring talk above.
I don't care if people listen to me or not, I just want to present without nervousness. Well in school and college, who listens to our presentions??? 😁
I get like that as well in the first few minutes. I slow down ... pause ... breathe deep and exhale. Then smile and start talking. Not foolproof but it helps me.
I love this! I had a presentation for class, and kept getting the same platitudes "everyone goes through speech anxiety." Right... has everyone been laughed out of a classroom in grade school? Anyway, fast forward to college, where I must give a presentation for my mid-term (and my upcoming final.) I watched this, rewrote my opener and practiced voice inflection to apply the information. I got 100% on the midterm. That's a significantly higher grade than I ever attained in an actual speech class. A more important point, is that I felt like I finally accomplished speaking in front of a group without having a near nervous breakdown. I felt confident. And to speak to the effectiveness and retained information itself, with my final fast approaching, I found myself seeking this exact video, and feel I should send the link to my partner. Thank you!
i'm 22 years old and i'm a reserved person.i'm doing a presentation next week and i was terrified until I watched this clip. Thank you for all these great steps.
Thanks a lot for the video ,, I literally followed every stop and trust me I cracked interview ,, I lost my stage fear and just nailed it ,, thanks a lot
Jason, I'm so happy that I found this video. I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety when it comes to doing presentations. I'm in sales, so to say that this has hindered my success, would be an understatement. I feel as though if I can internalize the concepts you touch on, that it will eliminate a great deal of stress! Thank you!
***** Glad to hear it. You'll be happy to know that we are actually going to be filming a program about giving sales presentations soon, and we should have the videos up and ready in the next few months, so stay tuned!
hello Mr.Tetic i just dnt know what kind of magic you use whenever i have a presentation i watch your video and it gives me confidence and self control you are a what you would call in french "un bon orateur" and believe me you are amazing keep up the good work.
Jason, I gave a presentation tonight without any power point or other supports like notes etc. I followed what you said and it worked beautifully. Thank you very much for your generosity sharing your skills for free. Amazing stuff :-)
Great tips I've done over 300 technical presentations in my career and found something useful in just about each of your steps. I think that this video should be required watching for all new sales executives and pre-sales consultants.
I have 5 days to put together a powerful presentation and I have never done this before. I am pretty confident in front of people because I used to be an entertainer, so it comes easy for me. Thank you for this video, it's going to help me.
Jason, this video was great UNTIL I looked at your other video Rule the Room, a 60 min. presentation through the link you provided in this video. That video has literally changed my world about presentations. I will definitely spread your name to my most trusted colleagues and do my best to see you in person at a live event. Thank you for knowledge and insight into this topic that most people just don't seem to understand how to cover.

You are perfect i know it is like 10 years ago but i saw this video now but anyway .... ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I have lecture next weeks and i do appretiate your help tnx very much dude❤❤❤❤
i actually have a fear of speaking in public. im scared that i might stutter, might be uttering grammatically incorrect sentences and might not be able to organize my ideas well. i badly need some help :(
Hello, I'd recommend checking out our Conquer Your Fear courses, specifically, our Calm course. It's all about conquering those fears and looking and sounding confident, even if you're still feeling nervous on the inside. ruletheroompublicspeaking.com/course-overview/conquer-your-fear-of-public-speaking/
I am no expert in presentation and but i use this small technique to conquer my fear and it worked. I fool my brain thinking like this " I am presenting in front of my friends and family members ( who you know well) , i don't care whether i am not perfect or i do mistakes or my idea are stupid etc. i just explain what i know " . instead of thinking " i am presenting in front of audience and panel members who will kill me if i am not perfect or any mistakes in my Ideas etc." fooling your brain that u r presenting in front your friends causes your brain to relax not worry about result or outcomes of your Idea . Even if there is you can rectify it later. Hope this works.
Very helpful video, and clever approach -- using your own opener to demonstrate and reinforce your key points. I can't tell you how many times I've sat in front of a teacher who fails to demonstrate the skill he/she is trying to teach. You've both explained and demonstrated the 5 simple steps and left me with a clear picture of how to apply your recommendations in my own presentations -- all in less than 10 minutes. Well done!
I'll give my first formal presentation tomorrow, but I don't know how to do it until I watched this video. This video really helps me to solve my confusion. I hope I can do a good job tomorrow. : )
Jason - oh my gosh, thank you ! This is what I needed. I was invited to give a brief presentation about my tech story in my company’s I&D town hall end of month. This is perfect!
I don't have a fear of public speaking, in fact I get excited everytime I get to present in front of the class. But I have a fear of making social interactions and casual conversations. I don't care if I speak in front of thousands, but when I try to make a new friend I feel like exploding. I'm a messed up potato O_O
True! Mastering a presentation opener is so important. I’ve seen firsthand how a strong start captivates the audience right away. Taking that initial stand with confidence and setting up a clear, engaging hook makes all the difference. I like Jason's point on connecting emotionally with the audience, especially by giving them something they want-whether it’s happiness, success, or freedom. Programs like the Sense of Humor Improvement Program by Habit10x even help presenters add humor in just the right way. Remember, with practice, each presentation feels smoother and more impactful!
1. 5 steps to deliver a killer opener: 1) Give a confident introduction 2) Give your credentials 3) Deliver your hook 4) Introduce your agenda 5) Give a credible statement

Good solid advice. Ive given many Toastmasters presentations over a twenty-five year period and his advice rings true. Convincing "demo within a demo" technique.
Exactly what I need. I'm having a presentation of Good Practice of Documentation on these week and is my first one. So I'm a litter nervous just for the opening. The rest of the presentation I'm very confident because I have been studying about this and I want to share my own experience of adapting to the new Documentation rules. Thank you a lot! I wish you the best .

I’m so bad at presentations. I always feel like I have to keep looking at the slides I made and read off them. I just get nervous and forget what to say. I say everything too fast and the presentation ends up being 2 minutes instead of the required time. I just have trouble explaining the topic I guess
Same problem to me.. tomorrow I have a group presentation.. each person should speak for 3 mins.. I'm really really afraid of. Because I also have the same problem you have.. you are the Xerox of mine I think
Gotta love Credentials- I have crushed many a salesperson claiming they have 15 or more years sales experience and don't need to listen to what I have to say. I ask them to share with me what they are doing differently today than when they first started. Not one has given me an answer other than "nothing". I then educate them they actually have ONE year experience, not 15. Your HOOK and the bullet points are great ideas

One of the best approaches to an intro I've seen in 25 years. Stopped what I did and changed my messaging.
I'm using this for teaching Chinese faculty how to teach. It's very helpful! It helped me review somethings also.
I love how this could easily be played on an infinite loop... and I could come back any time and learn how to give a killer presentation.
This is really helping. Now, I'm no longer scared or nervous to stand in front of the audience and do my presentations.
Thank you !!
