Also, I love how “Baja” trails in Utah look to be much smoother than the highways in Pennsylvania. Add 3 more lanes and this could be I-80
LOL
Pay more taxes
Camera flattens it out a lot, but yes this was pretty tame. Bigger hits are much worse for the TRX so the difference would have been even more pronounced on a track like Texplex!
I’m so glad you made this video, I’m tired of everyone comparing them in a drag race and climbing a little hill in 4Lo, this is what they’re built for so this is the ultimate test
Yeah, ones more for posers, though they're beasts !!
Kick ass video!!!! You did what NO one in professional media would even do. Put these trucks against each other in their natural environment!!! Awesome 👏 great content! I was on the fence for a weeks as to which truck to purchase. This has swayed me to a Antimatter Blue Raptor with the 37” Package. Thank you for the vid and great outro👍😁
You won't be disappointed with the Raptor > TRX
🙏
Hmmm... My impressions: although slower upon takeoff, the Raptor does seem to have better turn-in and looks much lighter on it's feet. The TRX seems like more of a handful, but better on straightaways.
well yeah obviously this comment goes completely unsaid lol
The trx is 400 to 600 pounds heavier.
Not surprised at all, the Raptor is a sports car off-road. Can’t imagine how quick the Raptor R will be
Dude I think I am locked in on the raptor now with the 37 package
I know it is a TTV6, but man I really love the way the Raptor sounds! It gives it a signature sound that helps it stand out. Kinda like how a Porsche flat six sounds or a WRX Flat four sounds give those vehicles a signature sound like no one else. That said, I can't wait til the R comes out.
I think it sounds like a Corolla lol
Thank you for taking your ridiculously expensive offroad vehicles offroad!! Great test!!!
The supercharger whine alone makes me want to have the TRX haha
I would be very interested to see how much faster the raptor with 35s would be compared to the 37 pack, my guess would be that the 35 raptor would be 1.5 to 2.5 seconds faster
I think it would be the same around the track
@@BenHardyCars it would for sure be faster with smaller and lighter tires
Better takeoff, faster breaking, 1" more travel, easier steering, less weight, but slightly less traction.
Yeah I think it would shave a couple seconds.
It's all in the driver.. Those bigger tires will glide over more rough stuff, much better, where smaller tires will be more bumpy... It's why Trophy trucks use suck big tires.. Smaller is not faster, off road.
Great vid, thanks for sharing!
Now you need to do it in a Gen1 Raptor and see where it compares.
I'm just here to see all the butthurt, Offroad expert, TRX fanboys say if he had more balls to drive the TRX, he could've beat the Raptor. This just proves a giant engine isn't everything, the TRX will always be quicker taking off, but being able to maintain the speed Offroad has nothing to do with the engine. I thought the TRX would be the superior truck, but the more videos I see of it, I've realized Dodge just put that engine on it to 1up the Raptor on paper. That being said, the Raptor R is just going to destroy the TRX Offroad.
LOL, I think the Raptor R will be slower than the ecoboost on trails, but that’s just my guess
Hey for Rams first offroad truck they did a pretty good job don't forget the first gen raptors were folding frames a bunch of ppl abusing these TRXs and they have proven to be reliable tbh more reliable than 3rd gen Raptors from what I see bunch of recalls on 3rd gen raptors with drivetrain issues the TRX had issues with loose suspension but that's about it
@@BenHardyCars Yeah, more than likely there will be some downside for throwing that V8 on there. I don't really care much though, even though I would really like one. All, if not most Raptor R's will more than likely go to "connected" people, celebrities, and influencers.
@@BenHardyCars Safe bet. The Ecoboost really is the best engine for the truck.
Ten years, ten years bro they had to scrutinized the Rapture and all they came up with is a "carbon copy wana-be with a high powered motor and no real engineering. The Rapture R is going to put the nails in it's coffin ⚰️.
Awesome vid Ben! Loved it! I figured it was really going to be a close race and it was!!! Good to see the fiancé peeking her head in there lol..😝🥰👍🎉🎉
Ben, I. Disappointed there was no Teddy Bear. 😄😄😄
@@ramrider1453 For sure!😝
Bad ass video Ben! Well done!
Get it bro. TRX is balling! Hell ya get it.. get it! Well done bro. ❤️👍🏻 wow I am surprised. But that slow take off or the raptor would kill me.
Bro the raptor was faster though hahahaha
Wow !!! You are one crazy guy !!! Love the video 📹
the more the driver is better the more the time deference would be !!
only in strait line drag race the TRX win !!
other than that the RAPTOR wins it all !!
but when the Raptor-R comes it all game over for the ram TRX !!
A surprise to absolutely nobody that has done this type of offroading/understands physics, but thanks a bunch for demonstrating it via [a great] video.
Raptor might have won, but that V8 still has my heart!!!!
The Raptor seemed to be easier to go faster and it seems more compliant.
Raptor was quick I have the 1st Gen Raptor 2016 the Last one Built With the 6 .2L Hurricane V8 i love my Raptor Waiting for Raptor-R with that Mustang 5.2L V8 come out
That was cool brother!! I wish you'd had a shot of the high speed section though. That's my favourite part😁
I love the Raptor, even the colour!!! I'm just wondering what the other 250 horses were up to in the TRX........😁
I think the more you raced that track in a row the bigger the delta between the 2 would grow, in succession there’s more likelihood the TRX shocks will start getting overtaxed/overheated lose some of their rebound/compression resulting in getting out of the throttle earlier in hairier sections & I also think the chance of “outrunning” the suspension/brakes & course itself is more likely in the TRX winding up off course getting too overzealous on the gas
The Bilstein’s will out last the truck LOL, those shocks are super durable
@@BenHardyCars you think they’d hold up & do the same job on lap 5 as they did on lap 1? Between the extra weight & smaller diameter/less fluid I would think they’d tap out first, in addition it also alluding to the fact that both trucks can easily “outrun” their suspension’s capability offroad, just seems like you can get yourself into that situation sooner & more often in the TRX for a few obvious reasons, 707hp one of them.
@@BenHardyCars Um, what? Even the Raptor has suspension fade after a few laps. Trophy trucks are not immune either.
Fox recommends rebuilding the shocks after just 1000 miles of this, or 40k miles of street use. By that metric I'm overdue for two rebuilds.
You can tell the Raptor is a much smoother ride and lighter. The TRX sounded like it was about to fall apart through the course. For pure off-roading, id take the Raptor.
Great video. I kind of expected this. I have yet to see any Hellcat vehicle do anything other than perform in a straight line. Keep up the good work.
SRT engineering is to slap a supercharger on a vehicle and call it done - something people have been doing in their garages for over half a century.
The Raptor does look more composed and quicker to regain control even from the limited experience we get through vid. I think for me the fun factor of the supercharged V8 would make my choice. Let’s be real, almost nobody buying these are trying to put down fastest timed laps off-road on the regular. Awesome vids here Ben, thanks for giving us this!
As an avid TRX enthusiast, I agree. The R&D Ford has spent on the Raptor program for the last 15 or so years shows in how composed and adept the Raptor is. However, with this being the TRX's first gen, I'm equally impressed with what Ram did. I'm sure Ram may do what Ford did on the 2019 Gen 2 and add beefier suspension components(updated Bilsteins, different spring rates, etc) to keep it fresh. I would never tire of the TRX that can keep up with sports cars, provide true riding comfort, all in a luxurious environment.
@@hellkitty1014 Raptor R will gonna murder turd rx brutally then
@@hotrod7603 mmkk.
@@hotrod7603 I don’t think it will I bet it will have the same short comings as the trx and will be much more expensive in limited numbers
@@christopherbrown1391 agreed. Very likely to start at $90K for a base model IF Ford even allows a base model. Plus the numbers will be very low, thus driving markups through the roof. The Ford GT is a great example of this.
Little diffrent then setting off from a dealership. That looks awesome
Just as expected
Finally. A little bit of proof that the Raptor is superior. Now we need a channel to do a similar test with a much better driver and a longer course. I think the Raptor will still come on top. Nice driving though
Superior? 😂😂😂 And a much better driver? I find that rather insulting…..🤬
@@leedanielson7452 much driver for both then Offcourse Raptor will gonna be superior because it's Baja Raptor
To be fair, the guy was not pushing the TRX and seemed scared of it lol... Either way, I think the Raptor is superior because it is innovative.. The TRX cool (awesome, actually), but using over powered V8 has been done for ages and is nothing new
I disagree, but wholesomely understand your point. Seems he warmed up with the TRX then drove the Raptor as fast as he could IMO. I’ll admit been a Raptor fan since inception yet I’m a TRX owner. It’s very true the Raptor has yacht boat compliance. Point and rip, you can’t feel anything. It’s numb to me and the TRX is designed to go over 100 in the desert with everything far overbuilt versus the Raptor and the Raptor isn’t designed for 100mph+ speeds in the desert.
The TRX Bilstein BlackHawk e2’s provide a detailed sense of the terrain and grip. The Fox suspension is great for minimizing feeling, removing sense of terrain, and smoothing out all sense of wheel articulation. Feels like a Yamaha YXZ side by side. It makes for a yacht boat ride. I prefer BMW type of terrain feedback and the ZF-8HP95 planetary gear set transmission, specifically built for high end vehicles. that’s in BMWs, Bentleys, and Aston Martins. The Ford 10-speed is a version of the base F-150 transmission and has many issues. Now, RAM has had many issues with fit and finish for the 21’ model year, but this is typical of “all new model year” vehicles.
Also, the interior of the TRX is far superior to the Raptor. It’s Maybach vs GMC when compared to the Raptor. Both are nice, but we know which one is better.
Last point, the styling of the vehicles are Reverse Side of The Moon vs McLaren. One’s a block of legos waiting to transform into Optimus and the TRX is simply gorgeous yet muscular.
The driver drive the 700 Hp truck like he was scared of it. Letting out way before corners and was completely straight before getting back on the gas. I would like to see a pro in both trucks and timed.
Handling is a thing, you could see the TRX bouncing and losing traction quite frequently.
@@T4nkcommander because the driver sucked. Lol
I passed your house today while driving for work. A pretty cool highlight for my day. I think the trucks look better in person.
They do!
You cant beat the fox racing shcoks of the raptor. The TRX was bobbing up and down like an old vw baja bug
TRX is a cool truck but it is a Gen 1 attempt. Ford and Fox have learned a lot over 2 generations of Raptors.
I’ll take one of each as well as a place like that to drive them.
proves (to some extent) what I've known all along. If you have to have the sound of a v8 and nothing else, get a TRX, otherwise the Raptor is #1 again.
You seemed nervous during the TRX run lol.... Not judging.. I know I would be 😂
The Raptor looked much easier to drive plus you ran the TRX twice and still lost by 7 seconds. Should have ran the Raptor again and tried to shave more time off to be fair. In this race the 35” Raptor would have been faster than the 37” as well so there is that also. Good vid.
The 37s may slow the acceleration, but they help with grip and bump absorption
@@BenHardyCars but you lose over an inch of suspension travel front and rear that's a big factor as well
@@BenHardyCars I agree but the track/road you were on definitely favors the 35. From watching your other videos I can tell you favor the TRX probably due to the power which is fine but Id be willing to bet you could have done even better if you made a 2nd run with the Raptor and even quicker with the 35. We will never probably know unless you can get someone to meet you there with a 35.
@@svtfreakk I'll meet him there with mine. Stock Gen 2, 2019. I bet I beat the Gen 3.
Ben, which one do you feel has more of a quality feel? Rattles, thumps, clunks?
I have a 2021 F150 tremor and the radio is a little glitchy and the rear end clunks quite a bit.
My 2020 Ram 1500 sport was comfortable and flawless for 35,000 miles.
Currently have a 2022 raptor on order, but considering a swap to the TRX.
I just don’t trust Ram reliability. Great trucks but the transmission and rear end scares me.
Great video. Need more of this type of content
Hey Ben, great video. Can you please tell me where you got the Raptor Decal on the bed of the truck?
Thank you
Custom decal made by tron auto lab
What wheels are on the TRX? I'd like those same ones for my orange TRX. Can you please provide me with info
The Raptor did look quicker and also felt like the TRX was hitting hard on certain rough areas (bottoming out). Also the TRX interior seems noisy (rattles). Good Video over all!
Haven't heard the TRX bottom out once in this video
Typical poorly made dodge components. Way too noisy compared to the Raptor. All that damn rattling was annoying.
@@Ready2Ride08 rattling could be from a lot of other things but what I see and hear from other videos the Raptor rattles a lot more than the TRX go do some research don't base your opinion off one video 😂
@@dor1tomcswagger69 I did hear it several times
@@yeralvidal2360 that's not truck bottoming out that you're hearing
I bet I could do the course in 3:50 in my Gen 2 ;)
Handle it👀😆
I have to say I knew the Ratpor was going to be faster but I'm a V-8 man and would choose the TRX for now....that is until the Raptor goes back to a V-8
😂
Fun video series, thank you. I'm team Raptor
Not too surprised. 700hp is definitely cool, but it's not going to be a huge help in the dirt. With the V8 Raptor R...there's going to have to be a some major traction management for it to do much better than the regular Raptor.
Would have been really cool if you could have some aerial footage from a drone during both runs. Love to see the suspension at work on both of these beasts!
The other video has that
I think you said it yourself.
The raptor is better for covering up mistakes while the TRX requires a more seasoned hand, and you just don't have that hand. (Your sentiment from first video)
So while I think the TRX would shine more with a better driver, for your every day chump the Raptor would probably be a better fit.
I have a 2023 Raptor… the raptor just becomes a different animal in Baja mode. It’s very hard to explain… it needs to be experienced
Played the runs side by side and the Raptor's ride is SO much smoother. I wonder how my Rebel would do :)
The raptor comes out on top again
Green means go that is right Ben. Sweet comparisons
You can always count on trailing faster in the Raptor especially with that 5.2 no beating the 10 speed either
It be nice to see a professional Baja driver get behind the wheel of both trucks to determine the real time. I hope someone puts out a video of both trucks when the Raptor R comes out. If I am not mistaken I thought I heard someone say, you could of gone a bit faster with the TRX, who knows. Hopefully the R comes soon.
The Raptor is quick offroad, but I'd still take the TRX. A. The TRX isn't slow by any means either and for me, I just like the look and sound of the TRX over the Raptor. I make alot of V6 jokes about the Raptor but I actually do appreciate and respect the capabilities that truck offers, I just like the TRX better.
I think since you like the Raptor better it didn't look like you drove the TRX like you did did the Raptor.
I totally agree. Get 2 professionals to drive. Plus he’s scared to drive the TRX
Where did you get that wrap?
Reminds me of Skids & Mudflap from Transformers 😂
I'm not an owner I'm just a viewer.
The TRX is faster, but the raptor is smoother.
How can it be faster if it wasn't? And smoother = faster for this type of racing.
Also gotta use launch mode on the trx at the start.
this is the stuff that the raptor was built for
I think you probably could’ve driven both harder, and also aired down the tires to 18 psi for better grip. It still proves that the Raptor is the better truck. The Raptor was visibly softer over bumps, and if you did drive them to the max, the Raptor’s superior steering would mean top speed is way higher all the while being more comfortable and composed. It also helps that the tires are 1.5 inches thicker (10 inches vs 8.5 inches). Also the TRX brake pads are smaller, with half a ton extra weight.
Both nice trucks, but i think if there was a professional driver who can run both flat out, i think the trx will overwhelm the raptor in acceleration on the straights, im not saying the trx would be easier to drive or more compliant, but you cant ignore 700hp when someone drives it like they stole it. Thanks
Nope, suspension is far more important offroad than power for Baja style racing. This was a pretty tame track - harder hits would have meant the TRX would fall further behind. A TRX I ran with at Texplex experienced this firsthand.
Just like the guy in passenger seat said in raptor at end of your run, I do think you could've shaved off more time with the TRX but not 30 seconds like he said.
Of course the Raptor won, it is a out of factory high speed off road truck
Wouldn't say high-speed 😂 did you not see the sway from the Raptor on high speeds the TRX deals with high-speed better since it's heavier and more planted the Raptor looked pretty sketchy at high speeds
@@dor1tomcswagger69 you are confused raptor is built for high speed offroad trx isn't
@@hotrod7603 that's why the TRX was more composed at high speed 😂 you can clearly see it in the video that the Raptor swaying at high speeds
@@hotrod7603 also Ben hardy replied to my answer over 80 mph the TRX felt more planted

Too much power!!!!
@@reyavila2753 Too little suspension, too much weight
@@T4nkcommander trx has a tremendously good suspension, just a bit too much weight and power.,
@@reyavila2753 useless if your suspension is inferior
If you drove the course in the Raptor first, the TRX time would be better. You just had the course and confidence down by the time you went into the Raptor, not a fair comparison at all. The TRX wins on sound alone here lol
I've driven the course dozens of times, I have it memorized
@@BenHardyCars then why did you slow down so much and drive it like a Prius around a very long straight and barely sweeping turn?
@@meatpunch9144 I went full throttle in the trx on the straight. I had to brake earlier, because of the extra weight and lost traction more often. I’ve owned the trx for over 10,000 miles and the raptor for less than 2,000, so I’m more familiar with the trx. That means it’s even more shocking that the raptor won.
It is funny seeing all the comments apologizing for the TRX clearly never having done this type of driving before.
TRX has the power. Raptor has the balance. Its all in the suspension. A rally car does not have the most horsepower (its typically a 3 or 4 banger) but man do they fucking handle corners on the dirt. Raptor does the same thing. The power of the TRX has nothing on the Raptor because it is so large and heavy it cant put it down.
When did the IT guy get cool trucks
The better truck won whilst down 252 horses (the amount a 2 litre Ford Bronco has to move a whole nother car !). Just imagine how much of a thrashing the Raptor R is going to give Porky Pig !!
It's the Ram if you drive it right, and Ford if you paddleshit the TRX's transmission.
I think the trx is wrapped in orange its true then its a very bad wrap as yeou can see on the edge of the scope
3 comments already!
How many years have you been driving a raptor of different gens, it seems to me you are way more confident driving the raptor as they have been in production way longer, it seems like your a little scared of the trx
Here the deal, Ford is not new to this they are the leader for years in this motor vehicle game and Chrysler and GM follows and try to keep up. It's been 10 plus years Ford has perfected this truck and all Chrysler did is came up with a "carbon copy" with a high powered motor. They had 10 years to copy the Rapture, "10 freaking years" my goodness; look the Rapture is just simple more finessed and engineered and the TRX is just a carbon copy brute.
I think you do cool videos especially spanking these trucks off road, but I wish you wouldn’t talk during the runs. It’s just that “braking” “big bump” and “almost lost it” aren’t very insightful and detract from the awesome thing you’re doing.
Absolut fantastisch diese Autos aber sie müssen nach Europa das is das problem
Please don't take this the wrong way because I mean no offense, but it doesn't take a professional driver to see that you're scared of it. The power of the trx is clearly to much for you. I think your right in saying the raptor is for someone less experienced to drive, even to learn with. The TRX would absolutely smoke the raptor with an experienced driver behind the wheel. You clearly are inexperienced, and don't know how to enter and exit turns at proper speeds. Your shifting before and after was a dead giveaway. It doesn't seem that you understand breaking and throttling through apexes, nor do you seem to understand how to use throttle to preload your suspension properly for jumps and terrain changes. If you were to redo that test with someone that knew what they were doing I feel that you would get drastically different results. Again I mean no offense by that. You're absolutely right it takes a way better driver, someone that is experienced to control the trx. However, that's exactly what it's for. Someone with no experience driving especially at greater speeds has no business attempting to do so with that much truck. That's just asking to get someone hurt or killed, and most definitely a destroyed truck. Other than that great review and comparison. You did a wonderful job hitting both of the trucks pros and cons, as well as explaining the differences between them. Great video keep up the good work I have no doubt with more wheel time and a little more confidence in your driving abilities you'll be fast. Remember when racing always trust yourself and your abilities. Questioning or second guessing yourself will either get you hurt or create bad habits where fear controls the outcome. 🤙👍✌
Suspension performance is the most important factor in this kind of driving. The TRX is more equivalent to a Gen 1 in this regard - so yes, he is definitely scared of messing it up giving how little headroom he has with the TRXs weight.
Ford has done their homework and reduced weight while beefing up the suspension, which allows for much higher speed and confidence for surprise hits that inevitably will sneak up on you.
Should been Shelby raptor to be fair
Raptor interior was quieter than TR-X. Could have more than 7 sec faster.
I think you start really slow with the TRX, maybe to ensure faster lap with the raptor🤷🏻♂️
I pushed both trucks equally
Looks like he was slow footing the TRX because he's a Raptor fan. There's a lot of Raptor fan boys on his channel...
@@TedHernandezIII Raptor Bot!
@@BenHardyCars you definitely did not.
@@BenHardyCars you drive scared in the TRX. get a pro to run both. The TRX would win.
At 2:10 you drive the TRX like a grandma, slowing down WAY too early and going so slow through the corner, you could have shaved the time down there alone. Weak driving, it's not the trucks, it's the driver that makes the lap times here
TRX is the best just rap it of half black and half sky blue.
Your biggest fan ishaan from India
TRX need more hp🤣
I think you drove the Raptor to beat the TRX because you’re a ford guy. You should do the same test with a Ram guy driving the TRX. no way the raptor would beat it.
Driver ERROR
TRX run could have been a lot faster if you pushed the corners and braking like you did in the raptor.
Haha, I did, the weight limits the trx a little
I know that the easy thing to say is the "Raptor is so much easier to drive". And that may be true, BUT the TRX can literally power its way out of anything. She's a big girl and won't feel as composed as the Raptor in this setting(but oddly the TRX is a more comfortable daily cruiser), but for only another $5 grand or so, I'm taking the truck with the better interior and killer acceleration.
I’m going to take them to the dunes soon, my bet is the trx will handle that environment so much better.
@@BenHardyCars very likely, given its prodigious power.
Lol, you can't go faster when you are bottoming out your suspension. Guess you've not done that before? Pro tip it is really easy to do in a Raptor, and even easier in TRX.
These people are a joke and need real equipment if they are going to compare times. I just see a bunch of fan boys in the video and in the comments.
I swear if I have to watch one more video of you redlining constantly I may just puke. You should just let the trucks shift for you because it is horrendous to watch. I wouldn't let you anywhere near a vehicle with manual shifting after watching your "racing" videos, nor would I allow you to trade these vehicles in after seeing these....I hate to be harsh but it is legit painful to watch...
Y do u even have a woman there?
The better more expertly crafted vehicle vs steroid junkie. Ram definitely doesn't want a juiced raptor around anytime soon.
This man is very biased.
This proves nothing other than Ben wasn't as comfortable in the TRX. Put someone in there that has a big set of balls and you'll see times more in the 3 minute range. I think both of these trucks are great and it's personal preference more than anything. I've had a Gen2 Raptor and it left a lot on the table with power and I wound up tuning it and was still left unsatisfied. I like the Gen3 but can't do the ecoboost again. My TRX is on order and should be here next month. I'm sure the power is great and I would have to assume the raptor is easier to drive but it doesn't necessarily mean it's faster.
Everything looks easier on camera. I might have left a few seconds on the table with both trucks, but not a whole minute.
@@BenHardyCars I agree everything looks easier on camera and I mean no disrespect toward you. Coming from someone that's been into off-road racing most of my life I can tell you that you weren't really pushing either of those trucks anywhere close to their limit. The limit involved was your own.
@@RMC2021 Ya you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Coming from me who was in the passenger seat on both runs, and I said this to Ben multiple times, he did not seem as comfortable in the Raptor cause he hasn't driven it offroad as much. The Raptor couldve been 10-20seconds faster.
@RC that same driver would also do better on the Raptor as well, so probably see a comparable difference.
@@jenksy_23 I have a much better idea than you think. Ben doesn't strike me as someone who grew up pushing vehicles to their limits and although he may not have been as comfortable in the raptor really proves nothing. He's driven the TRX for a year or more so obviously he'll be more comfortable in that but my point is that neither of these vehicles were pushed anywhere close to their limit and that's a fact. Some people are just balls to wall in a vehicle and have no fear but Ben is not one of those people and clearly neither are you. Again - I'm not trying to offend anyone here, just stating these trucks are capable of a lot more than they've been put through in this video. I can care less which truck is faster and which fan boys get upset or excited. The driver makes the difference so much more than the vehicles they are driving. Those that have pushed the limits know exactly what I'm talking about.
This is a useless video. You drove the TRX like you were uncomfortable and afraid to push it.. You drove the Raptor like you were familiar with it. Even your co-pilot said you could have shaved 30 seconds in the TRX.
Good cars make confident drivers
When you are bouncing off the bumpstomps you've got to back off the throttle, or risk damaging your truck. Power is far less important than suspension offroad.
@@tylerking27 what a dumb statement
His co pilot responded in the comments that he was driving too slow in the Raptor, actually.
