"Oasis are the best band in the world and the singer is very good looking "
Liam Gallagher, singer of Oasis
LOL all true :)
talking stone hell no
Bobby B Disgusting
He is a proper Manc wank!.....But that swagger is what's needed in a frontman......
Thought the singer on this song was Noel!!!!
Even people who hate Oasis can't resist this song. It's just too good.
Wait there’s actually people who hate Oasis? I didn’t even know that was possible...
@@danielaskin5257 A lot of people hate Oasis lol
@@danielaskin5257 I'd like oasis a lot more if noel sang everything
CarSVernon really? I think Liams voice is brilliant.
CarSVernon Liam is amazing
Noel Gallagher is by far one of the best songwriters of his generation. Too simple? That’s the beauty of it and why I love Oasis. He’s great at build ups and resolutions. Actually, he’s great at all of it....not a shredder but amazing songwriter.
AND... he always has something meaningful to tell.
Nah. He's talented, but defo not the greatest of his generation.
I'd say he's up there with Damon Albarn and Thom Yorke
@@WDeeGee1 what!? The lyrics to this song (and many oasis songs) are meaningless word salad
@@davidransom643 they are not
You have to talk about Live Forever now. That song is the absolute peak of that early golden age they were in
It’s such a good fucken song
I love you, Shane
The solo is one of the best ever
The outtro guitars are the most beautiful, powerful and emotional thing I have ever heard in a song
This is no word of a lie.....i was doing work outside of my house about 3 hours ago.....thoughts running away from me......and thought "I would love for Rick to do Don't look back in anger"......and tonight I get the notification that he has actually done it! How freaky is that!
Very freaky indeed
@@tinfoilhatter yeah for some people like Noel, the songs fall out the sky or so he says haha
😂
Next time please hope for Champagne Supernova.
I love it when that happens! It's very rare, that's what makes it sooo special! ✌
I'm here for Rick's legendary air drumming.
You can tell he really appreciates a great drum part (and all good music/instrumentation).
I could listen to an episode from Rick for every Oasis song ever. They’re just one of those bands I can’t turn away from. Love their albums from front to back. Dya know what I mean?

This is the best pre-chorus in history " step out beside the fireplace/TAKE THAT LOOK FROM OFF YER FACE!"
It's actually "Stand up beside the fireplace" If I recall correctly, it was what Liam and Noel's mother used to say to them when taking a picture.
God I hated that lyric when I first heard it and I still do. Terrible. “From” used as a syllable filler. If anyone actually spoke like that in real life you’d think there was something wrong with them. BTW I’m a fan not a hater.
@@badgasaurus4211 lol true
Not sure if this the greatest pre chorus ever, however, I haven't heard one that is better. Has to be top 10 for sure. I think the chorus is the best ever. Excellent verse too. Best pop song ever.
@@MobiusVideo it's a northern thing 👍
Noel: it sounded great that’s why I played it.
exactly, he wouldn't understand any of this explanation!
He doesn't have to think about it because he can just feel it. But explaining why it sounds great doesn't take anything away from him. It's just for us to understand.
@@pogchamp7983 I'm giving him more credit , you've misinterpreted me. As a song writer I find this level of song dissection very weird, but I get why people do it.
Mini Surf yes mate! That’s it, no analysis.
I bet that he wrote it when he was drunk
I don’t care what anyone says. Noel Gallagher is an amazing song writer.
axlrio yes & one of the most overrated band of all time!!
But you have to be good to be overrated!
I'm not just anyone!
Michael Tabor overrated are you stupid they sold out constantly, kids to this day know the words to a lot of their songs, they’re songs were the best rock songs since BEATLES and queen and in a lot of ways they were better than the prior mentioned 4% of the uk applied to tickets for one of their gigs that’s millions of people
Amazing song writer?.. he wasn't the best songwriter in the Beatles. 😁
More a regular songwriter
That whole album is mandatory listening.
One my favorite albums ever.
Best rock ballad of the 90s, period. You can't not love this song. We are all in cosmic tune. Experience YOUR experience. We should all love more
I agree.
I always thought this was one of the most impeccably-executed pop-rock songs ever written. Everyone wants to sing along the second they hear it. It's an earworm, but in a great way. It works great acoustic or with a full band. I love the F major to F minor during the bridge, total beatles. I hope you do more Oasis in the future. Their first two albums, along with Weezer's blue album, are my absolute favorite 90's mainstream rock records.
You got great taste in music my friend 🌟
What did you think of Pinkerton when it came out? (ignoring the fact the rest of the world took 10 years to appreciate it) :)
Funny thing is even Champagne Supernova is as great. Melody wise its just as catchy
@@darkneal Pinkerton sucks
Dark Neal I like Pinkerton. It’s definitely something different from blue, though. Blue album is the sort of thing I’ll put on in the car in the summertime, while Pinkerton is the sort of thing I’ll put on when I’m snowed in during the winter.
Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Live Forever are some of the greatest songs ever written. Absolute perfection from start to finish.
Julia Annie The whole Definitely Maybe album was just a throwback to brit pop and perfect. Rock n roll star / Supersonic / Cigarettes & Alcohol. Just awesome
Julia Annie
I just can’t disagree lol
The more I learn about oasis the better they become!
Champagne Supernova as well. Even their b-sides were mostly crazily good! Much better than Nirvana I should say.
Edward Snowden I wouldn’t call that song a b-side it’s easily in their top 5
You forgot morning glory 👍🏼
Between Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, and Nirvana is everything I'll ever need to remind me how great it was growing up in the 90s.
A few summers back I got to see Smashing Pumpkins and Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds 🇬🇧🎸🙌 Noel - he is very consistent LIVE / hair and shoes always on point and Billy Corgan and James Iha nailed it ! I was actually Star struck by James 🤩
@@hymefly And for the inteligentsia, remember GG
Third eye blind, soundgarden, alice in chains aswell.
Weezer!!
You can add Guns N'Roses, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Supergrass, Garbage
Oasis' drummer is really brilliant, he never lets things get too heavy even when there are tons of guitars around. best drumming!
He's perfect for morning glory just as the previous drummer Tony Mccarol was for definitely maybe.
Rick out here dying to do the Beatles.
This way he gets to do the Beatles without having to do the Beatles.
Ehhhhhhh, does he though? 😂
Wish he’ll do hapiness is a warm gun one Day
Being a Mancunian lad myself, I loved this song growing up and it has particular resonance after the horrible bombing attacks on our city
The great thing about Oasis is how they manage to outsmart their critics with so little apparent effort, and it drives the critics *absolutely insane*.
Noel Gallagher said in the last documemtary that the critics rated Oasis badly because they didn't understand and get the band's appeal to the people.
WMTSG? (What Makes This Song Great?) is an anagram of WTSMG? ((What's the Story) Morning Glory?).
Coincidence? I think not...
Rick -Time traveller. Who is his Morty....????????

i was born to read this comment
I was 13 when What's The Story came out and was OBSESSED with Oasis. That album still holds up to this day and I know they get a lot of hipster hate directed toward them but Oasis rocked very hard.
Same here. This band and their first 2 albums changed my life. I followed this band during their entire existence and am and always will be a die hard fan. I don't understand how people can't love this band.
Agreed. I was 15 at the time. A friend convinced me to buy the album, and it's been consistently in my top 3 ever since. Solid album. Every song is great, and even the order they're placed in is perfect.
@@BlackTomorrowMusic Yup, came out when I was a freshman in high school. You hit the nail on the head with the track numbering. The way it starts out fast, slows in the middle, hits a 100 on Morning Glory and fades out with Champagne Supernova is absolute perfection. It's a god damn perfect album filled with hits.
Incredible performers live too. I saw them at Wembley Stadium!
It’s my all time favorite album, I carry a copy of it with me wherever I go
Everything is simple with Oasis. That's the beauty of it. Love them.
So simple but so effective
Deceptively simple. Some nice subtle touches discussed in this video
for you it sounds simple, but noel writes songs explaining astrophysics to dummies.
It's simple on the surface. I saw someone mention and I completely forgot about this. But on the double tracking of the vocals one of the tracks sings "her soul slides away" and on the other "My soul slides away". Some crazy detail I guess cocaine is just as good as Psychs for creativity.
Especially their fans.
Rick you forgot the epic guitar solo. As soon as I heard that solo back in 1996 I bought and guitar and started learning. Here I am today 24 years later still playing. Noel Gallagher proved that limited technical ability is no match for hard work, determination and just raw creativity. Thanks for the video!
This! Where was the solo Rick? Such as brilliant riff.
It almost takes your breath away once you realize just how unbelievable Noel Gallagher is as a songwriter, and Oasis was in general. Thanks for taking it apart for us Rick.
The haters will always hate Oasis for being too ”simple”, but honestly that’s the strangest type of criticism to give them. They play Pop-Rock music? Did people really expect them to shred constantly and play 7/8 beats in their songs? It’s POP MUSIC.
Also just because the parts are ”simple” it does NOT mean that it’s easy to write. Coming up with great hooks and writing as great melodies as Noel did is a really underated ability that alot of famous musicians hasn’t even come close doing.
If you want 'not simple' Oasis, listen to their third album Be Here Now which is just wild(ly overproduced)
Yes, it's Pop Music that the Beatles created decades ago. Forget Oasis and go listen to Revolver.
Glicksman1 Ok I will, but tell me a song to start with so that I don’t get a bad first impression......
Green eel just listen to their first record
Green eel rockin chair listen to that gem
Noel's solo from this song be like: "Am I a joke to you?!"
And Alan White's NASTY drum solo at the end of the guitar solo
I rewound the video thinking maybe I had inadvertantly skipped it. Nope. And was surprised he didn't spend more time discussing the strings and Noel's "borrowing" Pachelbel's Canon.
@@winstonoboogie9186 I was waiting for the drum solo. Most amazing drum break ever!!
@@patrickkelly7206 Didn't we definitively establish in like 2006 that everybody uses Canon?
@@greatstoneplanet Ha ha Quite probably.
I love how Rick catches himself enjoying the Amen Break even though he's probably heard it literally millions of times, it's irresistible- no wonder it's been sampled so many times!
I listen to a LOT of drum and bass (apart from my love for rock, metal, punk, hardcore and postrock ) and I can't get enough of that Amen break.
The Am-G in the end of each verse and chorus line is a big part of what sells this. It's the simplest thing in the whole song, but makes it so much more uplifting.
Love that fact that you’ve done another oasis tune!
Noel really is a master in simple but effective songwriting. Especially his vocal melodies, just so good
Grunge & Brit pop in the same Decade, so lucky to be alive
"Don't look back in Anger" by the angriest band on earth.
Not angrier actually, but the most egoistic !!! & there are just those 2 members who are rude... rest of the band members are normal
Hardly angry, if anything with each other when things started to go wrong
That's Rage Against The Machine!

Oasis are absolute legends... one of the last true rock stars IMO. Great video!!
When that chorus hits it takes me back to being 15 in a pub in Manchester feeling like i was in the centre of the universe.
I recommend Oasis' Slide Away. One of the best songs of all time in my opinion
the drum fill after the solo going back to the last chorus is epic too.
Thank you for pointing this out! Epic is the perfect word
Came here for this comment. How was that fill not mentioned?!
yes indeed, that fill is the highlight of the song!
It's funny because he addresses a similar fill, but yeah. That stop and then the very ringo/bonham esque fill is big for the song for sure.
Daniel Vogel Drums played by Alan White, drummer for Yes, but also played drums on “Imagine” by John Lennon
I would love to see whatever-Oasis next
Great tune but why would Mr Beato do a vid about a complete ripoff?
why? super basic song
So anyways... Here's Wonderwall
With so many songs being 4 chords throughout, to have a pop song with 10+ chords is such a rarity and gem
There's 5 in this song right?
In my opinion there‘s no band quite like Oasis. So simple yet so good.
It's great that Oasis do music for people with an IQ below 85.

Oasis, I used to hate the band at that time, 25 years later I rediscovered them and now I love them. Brings back great memories of an 18 years old young myself. Great video as usual Rick, this particular song is a jem. Actually their debut album and morning glory are both awesome.
Rick should do The Masterplan, arguably Oasis's finest song.
Please do more Oasis songs on this series, it’s very interesting to hear them picked apart so well, keep up the good content.
Oasis, the band everyone likes to hate. That is until you actually listen more of their music than Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall.
@Rain The Beatles are a glorified garage band, always have been. Oasis is probably overrated also, but at least their stuff has production quality.

@Michael Jurek They spent too long smoking to get off their arse and make more than 1 album every decade, they slagged bands about cashing in with nostalgia tours and no new records, then they did exactly that and split!
@@johncollins5552 They spend most of the tine between the debut and Second Coming battling their management in court, waiting for their contract to terminate with them.
Terrible song and talentless band
Never understood the hate the band is getting from some, they're simply great. And it's great they still are appreciated by people like you who know a thing or two about music.
When this album came out i played it over and over again was and still is a masterpiece 👍
Im a simple man.... I see Rick uploads and I stop what I'm doing and I watched it
I literally paused in the middle of a movie, lol
Noel Gallagher has read "The Songwriting Secrets of the Beatles" - over 700 pages of music theory written by a classical music musicologist. He is a lot smarter and his knowledge of music theory is much higher than many of you guys think. Great composing is never accidental.
Probably why I always called them the Shitty Beatles.
"I don't fokken know what the fukk you're talking about mate. I don't deal with that stoff, d'you know what I mean?"
That's what he'd answer. And I just wanted to add it's amazing that Rick as an American has completely understood the magic of Oasis, a unique thing, considering the former "scruffs" from Manchester never succeeded to impress the US audience much.
He once mentioned that this US female singer songwriter had told him that he must have studied theory to come up with the chords for Supersonic. He was like 'where am I going to study theory in Burnage???'
Noel has stated that he does know a number of scales. He no doubt also knows some chord theory. He is quoted on the cover of "Revolution In The Head" - a book that discusses the musical techniques used in many Beatles songs.
He's thick. It's not hard to copy other people's stuff and pass it off as your own.
What a poet our Noel is...beautiful lyrics, never gets old. Thank goodness I grew up in the 90s...
This has been my all time favourite song since the first time I heard it back in 1995
Oasis is my most favorite band in the whole world, thank you fir covering them twice Papa Rick!
I wish you could do "supersonic".. It's the first song that played when I first drove alone on a highway and ever since, the chorus always takes me to new places :)
Edit: Wow thanks for all the likes! I might upload a cover as its the first song our band learned haha

Oasis had unmatched talent as a band. Brilliant band!
What truly makes this song amazing is how it manages to sound absolutely phenomenal despite having such a simple chord progression
The melody is pretty great...the chord progression seems to simply serve the melody.
tinfoilhatter He claims to know 0 music theory, but it’s hard to believe when he’s so good at throwing in wacko chords to create dissonance..
tinfoilhatter I didn’t mean anything bad by it haha, I just have no idea how he’d come up with them. I hate how simplistic my songs can get, I plan to start taking some lessons and hopefully get a better grasp of what he’s doing.
Probably my favorite Oasis song. It's the Beatle-ness that makes it.
In 1995, I was 13 and "Wonderwall" instantly became my favorite song (and still to this day). I would listen to the radio for hours, just so I could record it on cassette tape. Eventually, my parents bought me "(What's the Story?) Morning Glory" on CD, and I never looked back. I still listen to classic Oasis today, and a few songs by "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds". This is an incredible song.
Interesting coincidence that the Oasis drummer has the exact same name as Alan White, drummer of Yes who played on Lennon’s Imagine.
What an album that was! Recorded at Lennon's Ascot Studio which was off the kitchen at home. The last place anyone would expect a studio to be. Badfinger got lost looking for it! Walked the entire estate looking. Nothing locked or anything. Like Spinal Tap.

I once had a guitar snob friend who ragged on me for liking Noel's playing style. I explained that some chefs can make exquisite 5 course meals that no one will ever eat and some make a delicious sandwich that is accessible to everyone. Noel is the sandwich.
More like a Greggs sausage roll, compared to a celebritychefwanker scotch egg
Except if you listen to Noel's playing its far from bedroom simple. He plays pure pentatonics nearly but he executes with experience and individual technique that makes it not something you can just imitate without thinking. Even that second lick he plays in the intro before the verse kicks in is odd. Just listen closely and try to play it if you play, it'll mess with you for a moment.

Never heard the Mott the hoople phrase in there before, totally lifts the sound and gives me a new appreciation for a classic track. thank you for pointing that out rick, Awesome breakdown, thank you sir!
Haha Noel actually sometimes used to sing "all the young blues" during that bit live
The phrase is almost inaudible in the original mix: I never knew it was there until I played the song in Rock Band, which made that guitar part a *lot* more prominent.
Noel borrows from Mott , the same song ( All the young Dudes ) in the Oasis tune 'Stand by Me' , a quick chord change , a straight lift ... love the man... borrows from a classic old 70's song and uses it in not one but 2 originals.... class, attitude, cred
@@TecomaCowboy Yeah that bit of Stand By Me switches to 3/4 for that quick chord change. If I remember correctly it's |[3/4] C F D |[4/4] G |
Borrowing from David Bowie, to be correct.
It's worth noting that Oasis were the last real "rock band" to take over the world, the biggest "indie" act of all time (in terms of financial success,) and that Noel and Liam are truly the last of the old school "rock stars" to come out of pop music. I don't find it coincidental at all, that no one has since done it to their scale, as they arrived just prior to the dawning of the mass use of the internet and the cellphone.

So much talent, it’s a shame they’re no longer creating this music. Thank you again Rick
Interesting fact about this song. The line "so sally can wait" was actually suggested by Liam. Noel was demoing the song at a sound check and during the chrous, Noel said something incoherent and Liam said "are you singing so sally can wait" to which Noel added to the song, and the rest is history
Noel was actually singing something rubbish like 'so jim will fix it' lmao and then liam was like 'are you singing so sally can wait? if not then you should'. noel actually added it, damn good old days when the brothers actually got along and listened to each other.
Who's Sally? Noel said once that there's no specific Sally - it's just a girl's name that he included (perhaps after Liam's suggestion, above), so he might get to meet girls called Sally after every gig at which he had sung this song!

A person who basically has no knowledge of music (like me) would not recognize what is going on. What I do recognize is that it is a great song. By explaining it makes the piece even more interesting and ... understandable. I never realized how complicated this music was until now. But that is why I am a listener and not a musician I guess. Thanks, it was very enlightening. I am looking forward to more in the future.
I hear heavy hints of “Pachelbel‘s Canon” and “Let It Be” in the progression but that’s just my ear. I was not familiar with tune prior.
