    The go-to for EQ’ing technique I’ve seen around has been to go for the Global Settings first, adjust frequencies here, theeeenn move onto a an EQ pedal in the chain, if at all necessary
    I’ve heard that this helps with DSP over all, but I’m not sure
    Can’t wait to get my hands on an XL to get into tweaking myself 🤌
    Awesome video!! 🫡

    I purchased the powercab twice and never got along with it. The best sound I got out of the helix was running it into a Seymour Duncan powerstage, through my cab/speaker of choice. Great breakdown!

    I’ve tried a few digital solutions
    To deal with the periods where I don’t play live, and it always starts great, the idea was also to bring my home studio sound to the gig and it always failed
    for example used HX stomp for 3 or 4 years at home and get rid of it after understanding that I cannot deal with the feel and the dynamics in rehearsal and live.
    this year I bought the OX BOX and I’m really happy with the headphone sounds, but this week I had my first rehearsal and the result on the PA like using the stomp live.
    I think I can’t use IR and digital speaker sounds in a live configuration in a PA and it’s totally a feeling and volume interaction thing
    this FRFR could be one of the last things Ive not tried, but I don’t think I have the energy to try it after an another déception like this !
    Next week I will go to rehearsal with my old AC15 and won’t waste my time on the knobs trying to have an OK sound !

    Digital amps, a good power amp and get some old Celestion G12K-85's which are perfect. Perfect speakers for really any amp models. From clean to mean.

    last time i play live, i use a 70w combo and a line 6 stomp and nothing more in a large venue, and i get praise for my tone.

  • @Mega_trav

    I think that there is a right tool for the job.
    Personally, I’d rather have a higher end wedge PA speaker like a QSC over the Line 6 one.
    At the same time, I think the part you didn’t get into is where the real questions come out.
    I understand why taking a tube amp and on tour is risky. But if your goal is to have a loud tone that you can hear, a power amp and guitar cab with an HX Stomp would be a better tool.
    If you need it to be quieter, then this might make sense. So would In-Ears

    would like to see this compared to bucking amp/mini pa and even a consumer karaoke style speaker system.

      @@LivingroomGearDemos Thank you for the reply, I was kinda eyeing the Strymon Deco V2 for it, which has a casette setting too, but the Chroma Console seems to offer a lot more functionality for a similar price tag.

    For me it’s a question of who needs this and at what point in their journey. I’m not recording and I still need as much of my time actually playing guitar concentrating on improving. Because of that any time I find myself diving into a complex digital product I feel like don’t have enough time to spend on tweaking it since it takes zero effort to stick with a regular amp and I don’t actually need the benefits of some of the digital products.

    I use my HX stomp live when I can't bring an amp. But I can't ever see myself bringing one of these over a real amp if given the choice.

    Interesting that you find the dirt section of modelling problematic. Have held that thought for a while. I also find it weird too because they do amp dirt well but fail on dirt pedals

      I totally get why any player would do this, but also by this point you're essentially lugging an amp around again. Isn't one of the big pros of the modeler that you DON'T have to lug around about bunch of extra gear to get your sound.

    do fuzzes work well with digital units?

    • @Kulturmatt
      @Kulturmatt Місяць тому

      Think it depends on the fuzz and whether you place it before the unit or in fx loop. If you’re placing them in front you may have to tweak the unit’s global eq/input noise gate settings to get the fuzz to behave properly.

    do all your standalone pedals just go directly before the hx stomp? i’ve never tried combining my other pedals with my stomp before.

    • @electricmeatpuppet
      @electricmeatpuppet Місяць тому

      I nearly always use pedals with the stomp, it just breathes some kind of life into it. Even just a simple boost or OD in front can make a huge difference sometimes.

    To each his own but bringing your favourite pedals kind of defeats the whole purpose of going digital to me. If I'm bringing a cab and doing the tap dancing I might as well bring my real amp.

  • @electricmeatpuppet

    For up loud, I usually just run the HX Stomp like I do my preamp pedals into something like my HIWATT combo... works perfect, it's also equipped with a pair of fanes which are quite flat, so it takes pedals, preamps etc really, really well. It can be a Rockerverb or a Fender at a moments notice. No one knows at that volume either, you lose the electron microscope effect at those levels anyway - as long as you are not chopping people's heads off with the extreme frequency response that is still common with modelers.
