The CM-15 Video

- Not a review, but a joyride. The best mic there is for getting things down quick, but with a really high level of quality. I've now adopted this thing into my everyday work flow. It has replaced my Rode NTK as my daily microphone, although the Rode will come back out for more detailed recordings.
The CM-15 is extremely quiet and clear. The size and connections makes it the most versatile mic I've ever heard of. The value is in the portability and connectivity. That's why I mostly put it up against the microphone on the OP-1 Field. I love to write music in places that inspire me, and now I can record these ideas on the spot at a level of quality that is astounding considering how small it is.
It's a little pricey, but I don't think I'll ever need another mic again. Thanks @teenageengineering

I love your whole vibe. I want to upgrade to the field so bad. I'm surprised at the quality of that built in mic. That's insane.
Me too, man! I’ve been able to do so much with it. The CM-15 is nice, but not necessary. You can do everything with the built in mic 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I have a classical acoustic too and I've never managed to get it to sound as good as your intro recording. Great video and playing!
Awe, thanks man! The CM-15/OP-1 Field combo is incredible. The guitar is actually a steel string Martin typically used for finger picking the blues 😄. My mother-in-law has a Spanish guitar that I get to play once a year that I absolutely love. Gonna try to capture that thing here at the end of the month when we visit.
It’s so true about the source of the information in the moment, going towards the studio and changing your brain before you get there
Man, what an absolute joy this video is. Thank you.
re: monitoring via BT headphones-just made this switch myself, using AirPods Pro for everything but tracking. The spaciousness of not having monitors crowding my desk feels so light & free.
I’m so stoked that you enjoyed it!
BT=Bluetooth? Man, I hope Elon Musk can integrate music production into Neurolink. I’m all about going wireless, lol! Ever since the Field System came out, my whole setup has been getting smaller and more convenient. Less cables, less bulk.
Thanks for watching!
@@NovakTheEnjoyer yes, Bluetooth!
The AirPods have a “transparency mode” that turns on the mics. It’s kind of the opposite of noise canceling, and perfect for hearing yourself in the room alongside whatever you’re listening to.
Just another way to free myself from the desk-eg I can practice & write from the couch or while wandering around the house.
Man I love this video! I got a PO KO33 a few years back and love the authenticity of teenage engineering. I’m mainly a jazz guitarist and dabble in beat making. Regardless, I think you deserve more credit for your high quality videos!
I appreciate that. If you even dabble lightly in Jazz Guitar, I have so much envy. For me, the more complicated sounding the better (only because I don't understand it, not just for the sake of being complicated). As a matter of fact, it's one of my insecurities. I typically feel like my music is never enough. Never enough movement. Never enough variety within the structure of the song. You're so lucky to have that jazz background.
Thanks of much for watching! If a Jazz guitarist to looking and listening, then I've done more than I ever thought I could.
Cheers!
@@NovakTheEnjoyer For sure! I got into jazz cause I was interested in music theory and getting more colors into my playing. But man, the ear always wins and your music proves that
🙏🏼
Wow, really love the way you communicated all this info! ☸
Hey, thanks!
You really make start thinking about that Mic :) -- nice work! Was also considering Tula but TE has that fine touch on certain products and it sounds like this might be one of them.
That's it, man... TE just has the magic touch. The Tula is great, but there is definitely a creaminess to the CM15 that I can't describe or articulate.
Oh cool, just found a legend making videos, loooooove it!
Hahahaha, omg... That's very kind of you. I'm a legendary ass here at home, but thank you for the compliment and for watching :)
So good, dude. I’m feeling the cozy vibes on this one
I should’ve done it wrapped in a soft blanket, I was feeling a little under the weather, lol. Thanks dude!
When you say “TE doesn’t know who I am”.
They will. They will. There is a whole untapped world of ppl who play instruments who have not seen a way to introduce this stuff into their work flow (me) and these videos speak to that.
Great video, great channel!
Thank you!

@@Gear-Tube so crazy!
Absolutely agree with what you're saying about trying not to lose the magic energy at the conception. I seem to be on the same quest to find equipment that doesn't interrupt the flow
I love it. It’s so important for me ever since I got the OP1F
You've sold me on this mic. Making it easier to capture magic musical moments is something very appealing. Great video also
Thanks for checking it out!
Great stuff, man! 🖤🖤🖤
Appreciate it!

Thanks for stopping by!
Jack Black vibes with that mic tone jam, love it
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for putting CM-15 content out. There is still so little out there. The OP-1F mic is amazing, but the challenge of positioning it ideally is probably the biggest thing driving me toward the CM-15. I use an AT4040 for my condenser needs (relatively flat), but it requires a shockmount, phantom, XLR only, and of course bigger, so only usable for my studio space. I don't have that crazy power vacuum power supply to worry about. I love your positive humorous storytelling style. I think you've sold me on the CM-15. Gotta make some music!
Hey, thanks for the comment! It's a really beautiful mic in both the way it sounds, and the engineering behind its versatility and portability without the sacrifice in quality. I'm apprehensive about being excited that someone gets influenced to buy it because of me just because it's quite expensive. All I can say is that it's been a game changer for me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Beautiful guitar playing! I've used many of the highest end mics and the CM15 is amazing, I love mine. I love your fresh style of video and sincere presentation, very nicely done.
Thank you so much! I'm just blown away by the fact that I can record with that kind of quality anywhere I go. It's crazy!
Thanks for watching!
Indeed! Paired with the TP7 it's magical for remote recording. @@NovakTheEnjoyer
@@peterbondmusic would the tx6 be a good alternative to the tp7? not crazy about the mechanical controls
Beautiful video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😃
Great vid. Love the production and attention to detail. You got me thinking about some of this teenage engineering stuff. I’m always on the fence about their products. Maybe because of how tidy and fine tuned they are, maybe I get suspicious of the hype idk. I’m gonna dig a bit but anyway I’m loving how you’re integrating all of your skills! Great ideas, personality, music…
Thank you so much for watching!
They caught me off guard with the OP1F. I didn’t expect the trajectory it sent me on and I’m so happy that it did. It’s a happy accident machine among so many other things. That being said, I bought the original twice before actually understanding, and accepting it for what it was. Good luck!
Awesome review! Looking forward to when the deadcat is live in your shop!
Thanks man!
Great video! I am still blown away about how good the internal mic is on the op1 field.
It really is! The only real difference to me is the noise floor which I totally didn’t mention in the video, lol. The OP1F is considerably louder. Still, you get remarkable clarity from it, and it plays better in the higher frequencies.
Thank you for watching ✌🏼🤓
@@NovakTheEnjoyer thank you for making these videos. I also try to make as much as possible on the OP1F before entering Ableton. Very inspiring to hear you talk about mixing on the op1 and how important every little detail gets. Cheers
My friend, I enjoyed every second of this video. This is what UA-cam need in 2024
Thanks 🙏🏼
Wow, thank you!!
Agreed!👍
Dude, you never disappoint. I’ve been on the cm-15 fence for a while. I have a Blue Kiwi that captures beautiful sound, but it’s so big and heavy that most mic stands can’t even hold it on a boom…. That little cm-15 is pretty groovy. Aside from that, You have a gift of creativity, bro, and your humility and reverence for your craft that is undeniably alluring. Thank you for your UA-cam contributions. Wishing you all the best with all your endeavors, always.
Tim!!! Thanks man! This was a fun video to make. Yeah, it’s hard for me to go back to my other studio gear now that I have the OP1F/CM15 combo. It’s pricey, but being able to move around is paramount for me.
Thanks, as always, for the kind words of support!
@@NovakTheEnjoyer , your joy is so evident, and truly inspiring. Your content is evidence of the tenet that art is the reflection of the artist. (Not their tools) For what it’s worth, as fun as the TE line is, with its portability and quality, it matters not; I’m convinced you’d create equally beautiful works no matter what tools you had at your disposal.
That being said, I’m thankful that the field gear is what inspired you to create this channel.
I’m sure I’m not the only wallflower feeling inspired by your efforts. All of which are top notch… from the video production, music, and never missing an opportunity to just be creative. (The mic check song was a blast… and the knowing smirk after take 1…. Classic. )
Thanks for being you, dude, and moreover; for sharing it with the rest of us. 🙏🏽

can you hear the tone? seriously cracked me up, i was literally LOL (laughing out loud) great vids and humour!
😆 thanks for checking it out!
Always a pleasure finding a new video of yours, and a surprise finding one of the CM15!! Your recordings sound so clean and pristine but it doesn’t look like you’re recording on a studio with specific accoustic conditions but wherever you’re inspired (which is great!). How do you deal with cars/people sounds, reverbs of the room, etc?
Thanks so much for watching! The CM-15 reminds me of an Shure sm-7b. It’s really quiet and fairly easy to work with, although it folds in the wind. Definitely need a pop filter out doors. Otherwise, it’s really in combination of the OP1F that it just sounds so clean and beautiful. No grounding issues and really easy to assess how much ambience you should add relative to the space you’re in.
Watched most of your video, paused, made some music, and just finished the video right now :) thanks for the inspiration

Glad you're here! Thanks for watching :)
It's a fantastic time when a new piece of lit has you all juiced up and inspired. I liked your video, all that spiritual stuff about channeling the universes offerings of inspiration is my kind of banter. Liked and subbed. I can clearly remember getting my first smartphone and testing the voice recorder on HD mode (.wav) and being blow away at the super lively condenser mics and sound quality. It sent me right back to a time in the late 90's where i was so jealous of my mates walkman sized DAT recorder with built in mics which he wouldn't lend me and finally i had the tool to get the outside world recorded. Every time i left the house it was a new opportunity for "musique concrete" . A rumbling engine on a bus, a pneumatic drill 2 streets away, birds in the park, shopping center walkthusrs all became audio events in compositions.
Awe man, that’s the sweet spot! I was just thinking about every new module I’ve ever gotten for my rack and how there’s that Goldilocks segment of time where I’m learning about it and the patches I make with it are always the best for the entire time I have it. Nothing sweeter 🤌🏼
right on!@@NovakTheEnjoyer

dude, don’t ever stop being you…subbed, liked and shared ✅
My man! Thanks for spending your time with me.
Something you say about the point of conception and the result hits so hard 😂 that s exactly what I love with my op1
Yeah man. The immediacy is everything for me.
I use my phone to catch those moments sometimes but would be cool to have something a touch nicer for compact. Nice vid! Also I just started mixing a bunch of stuff with noice canceling AirPod max and a headphone correction plug, I am often at work and need to get mixes done while people are playing music onstage around me and its killer for that. Also does that mic plug into a standard interface or direct to a laptop? Lastly if people are reading, and have a newish MBP dont discount the internal mic, i was experimenting with it the other day and actually it sounds pretty good, have been thinking of doing a whole track with it to experiment.
I think technology has just gotten to a point where you don't really need much to make a superb sounding recording if you really try. And of course, machines like the OP1F make it substantially easier to get those ideas down in a more developed way, but the mic on it, which I'm assuming can't be much different than the MacBook mic are quality pieces of kit. Especially in a pinch. The CM-15, of course, what built for capturing sound and you can hear this special superpower contained in it. Thanks for admitting guilt to using noise cancelling headphones mixes sometimes. I don't feel so alone :)
@@NovakTheEnjoyer haha yea! I actually find it kinda nice to mix in noise cancel nice isolated space

That's an amazing little mic...I'm impressed as hell by the OP-1 mic but that CM-15 is incredible!
Nothing comes close for me. 👌🏼. The couple together feel unstoppable.
Using headphones I could clearly hear the difference between the internal mic of OP-1 field and the cm-15; the noise level is way better on cm-15!
Yeah, the noise floor on the OP1F compared to the CM15 is not the best, but to its credit, it’s much louder in the video than in person because of the compression UA-cam adds. It’s not actually that crazy.
Hey, I appreciate your Art, man
Thank you so much! And thanks for taking the time to watch :)
