I've ordered gochugaru and a kimchi container. I'm going to make my first batch of kimchi and I will use this recipe! I'm so excited! Thank you for sharing :)
what a great way to put it! you can tell maangchi radiates such good energy and positivity, especially in the stories that she shares and the way she talks about people. i’ve been watching her for years (like most of her viewers!) bc she’s such a gem!
This video it's a breath of fresh air in your channel. I don't mean that I am tired of your videos, i just can't get enough of your cooking!!! But it's really relaxing, cozy and fun to watch this video. I am really really enjoying this video so much!
i have the best neighbors. my neighbor, Louis, who happens to be Korean, brought over freshly made kimchi tonight; 2 different kinds. that's love because he made it with us in mind, carefully packaged and is just soo good. i love watching your videos. but as soon as i saw the title, i had to mention my wonderful neighbor.
I haven't been in Korea since 1983. This brought back the sights and sounds and smells of the market. And the conversations with the vendors were so familiar. Even with shopping at Korean stores here in the USA, I still have not had a really good persimmon since back then.
@@knightsofneeech I thought I answered this and then realized that I was way out of line on the prices. When I was there in 82-83, 1000 Won was about USD $1.45 to $1.50. A 100 Won bus fare was 15 cents. I just checked and the conversion rate is half of that. Today, 1000 Won is $0.72. Even at the higher exchange rate I remember, what I heard seemed very reasonable. Cheap in a couple of cases. But I don't know the current pricing of things. It's only been 42 years! Also, it definitely depends on who is buying and how they interact with the folks in the market. I recall walking up to an older lady who was selling those awesome Asian pears. Four very young men were ahead of me. Like me, they were USAF assigned to Osan Air Base in Songtan-si, south of Seoul. Difference between us was that these guys were young and totally lacking in manners. Apparently, they thought pidgin English would be how to talk to her. "How muchee thos-ee?" Made me cringe. She told them they were 400 won each and they all bought a few. Good for her. They got boned and that's what they earned for being rude. I moved up for my turn. I made the slight bow of greeting and (in Korean) said, "Grandmother, hello (in most respectful form). Those apples, how much are they?" She smiled and bowed back and the rest of the conversation was in Korean. I paid 400 won for four of them as opposed to the price for idiots of 400 won, each.

I have never seen such beautiful cabbages! I think a video about how to pack cooking gear for travel could be interesting. So many of my favorite tools are too big to travel.
I’m getting sentimental seeing this 🥹 you had an impact in so many of us Your kimchi recipe video was the first one I saw many years ago, since then I’ve been making kimchi every year 😊 You’re a national treasure imho 😇❤️
@ivi_kiwi99 She truly is!. I gained a love of korean food and the knowledge to cook my own at home from Maangchi! I could never thank her enough. And I do truly believe that eating so much. Korean peppers and pepper flakes and all the wonderful fresh vegetables has helped contribute to the lessening of recurrences of my cancer. So I owe my thanks to her for that !
This video was incredible. You really made something that not just shared a story but moved me. Thank you for this and all your wonderful videos, posts, books, and all you do for us!
It is alwasy such a joy to see people from your community. They are just like you. Lovely people who are kind hearted and so passionate about korean food. I also have learned so much from you over the years. I could not imagine living without delicious, home cooked, korean inspired dishes anymore. 💖
Thanks to you I learned about Korean food. Many many many years later I'm proud to say I can cook a lot of it and it has become a family favorite. Pairs extremely well with the Mexican food I grew up eating. Thank you, Maangchi
Emily AKA maangchi I absolutely adore you and your talent is incredible. I have tried a lot of your wonderful recipes and my daughter agrees you are a culinary treasure. Thank you for everything.
I've always heard South Koreans don't like making small talk, but it seems like you had no problem finding folks to chat with during your shopping trip. It was so nice to watch. Thank you 💖💖🥰!!
That's what some Korean language teachers made me think, but I was pleasantly surprised by the many conversations (in Korean and in English) I had with locals in the four cities I visited last year 😀
Lol Maangchi is no nonsense when she shops! She pointed out that price confidently.😂 I’m going to make delicious 맛김치 today, too! I can’t wait to eat some.☺️
I love it, and I love you, Maangchi! I had learned so many recipes from you, it's amazing! My respects and admiration for Korean culture and cuisine ❤❤!
What a great video! I love any time Maangchi goes to Korea. It's so fun to watch her vlog. Also, I can't wait to try making kimchi with fruit instead of sugar!
I loved this video! You don't only teach me cooking, you show me how to live happily and with passion. You are such a lovely person, I'm kind of jealous of all those wonderful people who were able to eat with you! 🥹❤️ Thank you for showing me korean food, culture and mentality.
I'm so intrigued by the chicken kimchi adobo that someone brought to the meetup! Those vegetables all looked so fresh, and the persimmons looked deliciously ripe and soft as you were adding them to the kimchi paste mixture. What a lovely video!
This was special. Using the persimmons made it a whole new thing. Fresh kimchi is hard to find here in the eastern US. Those other dishes at the meetup looked interesting too.
Watching you go around the market made me miss Korea very much! Oh my heart! It's a dream to be able to see Korea again... It has been my home 5 years of my life. Thank you for your videos.
As I continue watching this new video I am saying to myself, I just can't wait to visit korea so that I can cook there! And then I thought, what an odd thing to think of, traveling across the world to cook in another country, but watching you shop the vegetables there are so very beautiful! Our green markets here in America, or at least the ones I've seen, just do not seem comparable to the produce there!
No matter what you bring to the table what matter is the effort you put into it, the labor of love makes your food more delicious and serving it to the people you love ❤ 😊
oh my! i watch your video since i'm in middle school now i'm a corporate slave.. how time flies. This is my first time watch your videos again and it feels so nostalgic. Sending lots of love for you!
How did I miss this video??? I feel like I was with Maangchi-sshi, eating the yukhae, shopping for kimchee ingredients in that marketplace, watching her make the kimchee, and then going to that potluck…and all the food were made with lots of love!
That looked like the most amazing meet up! Instead of just the UA-cam personality sitting at a table and giving autographs and taking pictures. Having the channel fans come together and meet each other ... bringing food they cooked... so nice!!!
I have been following you for so long…. I am vegetarian and used to Indian food but after moving out of house I wanted to experiment with diff cuisine…. Even though I can’t try your non vegetarian recipes, I have learnt so much from you. Thank you so much! Never stop making videos
I just left a comment on a kimchi video you made few years ago and now I see you prepare kimchi on third video. It's a wonderful video to watch. Food is love and food is the most precious thing you can share. Sharing with others makes food even more tasty. I think you've absolutely amazing 👏. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤😘
Hi Maangchi! Do you ever visit Florida? I live on the southeast coast and I can't think of anything I would be more excited about or enjoy more than attending a meet up and getting to meet you! I have followed you for so many years! You are the sole reason that I discovered and learned to cook and absolutely love Korean food! And you lit a desire in me to visit Korea! One day! And I am convinced that having eaten an abundance of Korean chili, gochugaru and gochujang , along with lots of Korean vegetables and ingredients, that this helped to fight my battle with cancer! I really do think that that has contributed to my not having more recurrences! Please let us know if you ever plan to visit Florida. And thank you for all your wonderful videos. ❤
I just love watching you cook and the love you put into everything you cook. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful video. Their markets there are so much more than what we have to offer here in the States. 😊😊😊
Really enjoyed seeing you shop in the market, bargaining with the vendors, and selecting all the ingredients *with love* ;-) Hugs from Derbyshire, Michelle G
So beautiful to see your Korean meetup and definitely I could feel the LOVE throughout the video. You are a very, very special person which I admire your education provided to us, and the WORLD! Your enjoyable personality. Please take care. Thank you for coordinating the meet up video. From California with LOVE, Millette ♥️🌎♥️
I 💖 love your kimchi! It looked so thick with seasonings and flavorful! Yum yum yum! 👍👍👍😋 I wish I was there to eat them...Thanks so much for this awesome video, Maangchi. 💋 And, I 💖 love your blue eye shadows and blue t shirt. So pretty. 🤩
Exactly a year ago, I was in Seoul for the second time. This makes me want to return to Seoul much more than any of the flashy travel videos on UA-cam do!
Hello Maangchi thank you for making my day posting this video. I love south korea and would like to visit one day. Much love from UK :) Btw that beef tartare looks scrumptious 😀
Hey dear, we have completed 2024 kimchi's edition, which is out fourth 4th edition, last week. What about you? We have learned how to properly make kimchi in Italy from your videos. You are special to US indeed! This video made us reflect on our journey to Seoul which we are supposed to take on next summer if God allows! It brought us Joy and light. It's beautiful!!! Tks so much💕
This was so heartwarming! It's incredible seeing everyone's passion and love for Korean cooking. Thank you Maangchi for bringing together so many people through your wonderful food!
I'm so jealous of that produce, Maangchi! I just made my tiny batch of kimchi for the season from the saddest cabbage and the limpest radish. It will still taste great (because I use a recipe I got from you!), but I miss living somewhere that has nice produce like that.
That's a beautiful gathering of friends. I still make my kimchi using your recipe all these years. Thank you for sharing the ripe persimmons tip as replacement of sugar.

Good luck with your first kimchi!
something tells me Maangchi is the most popular person wherever she goes.

I love the haggling with the store owners 😂
LMAO YES
I loved her so much in that moment! Go girl!!
Total delight to see that!
She's wheelin and dealin 😂
I think Maangchi misses not being able to bargain in the US, so she gave it her all mercilessly to those shopkeepers in Seoul haha!
13 usd for all that is way better than how much it would cost here
She was soo gangster about it lol
Her original kimchi recipe is my favourite. Know it off by heart and could probably make it with my eyes covered. Never tire of it.
