Maangchi-sshi, I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Thank you for bringing us along on this very meaningful journey down memory lane! (Those noodles looked delicious!)
Maangchi, my condolences on the passing of your mother this summer. When looking back to childhood, we often see the love that went into the dishes our mothers prepared. I have both of your cookbooks, and have had coworkers come over to make kimchi. The recipe is from your first cookbook. Those days are always filled with laughter and happiness. Their children are happily playing about the house and backyard. We enjoy good food and good company.
@ you’re welcome. My coworkers all love your kimchi recipe. Many say they are spoiled and can no longer enjoy store bought kimchi. Thank you for sharing your recipes and your spark of joy. You have touched so many people and brought peace and happiness to them.
Oh Maangchi, you brought tears to my eyes! I know what it means to be far away from the place you grew up. All the memories of your childhood and your family. Big hug from my side
I visited Yeosu a few months ago and didn't know it was Maangchi's hometown! It was such a beautiful town, the people were so friendly and helped us when we got lost. Maangchi, your hometown is amazing ❤
I'm so sorry about your mother's passing. Thank you for sharing a piece of your history that made you you. I love these kinds of videos. We love you, Maangchi. Be well
Maangchi, you are from Yeosu! Amazing! I have been there on my trip to Korea last year and the people were so so friendly! I have fond memories of Yeosu and want to go back there once again. The dishes were extra-ordinary! ❤ Also, Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
I think this is my favorite video among all of your incredible videos. It was such a gift to accompany you back to your hometown of Yeosu. This was a lovely tribute to your childhood and your mom. ❤ Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this about yourself. Whenever you release a new video I tell my wife "Mama Maangchi has dropped another one!" Today you told us about your hometown and your mother, and it is the same day of the year my mom died 28 years ago. My mom was always curious about the bigger world than just where she lived. I’m so happy to see you share 여수시! I was adopted to the US from an orphanage there in 1983 and have visited 3 times in the last 10 years- including trips with my son and daughter separately so they could see where I’m from. The last time 2 yrs ago I had the best kimchi in my life there - the restaurant had all gold dishes and utensils and a special dried fish and the kimchi was wrapped with fresh seafood, so amazing. I always discover food that hits my soul there every visit - flavors that are part of my blood! I cook recipes from your books and videos for my family 고맙습니다 💫 -김소엽

Maangchi.. I am so sorry to hear your mother has passed on. My condolences. My own mother passed when I was very young and I personally felt food was a good way to remember and cherish the memories that connected us a family. I have made plenty of your recipes from your big cookbook and it has made it's way into the new cherished memories we're making without her but always having her in our minds. ❤ Your videos are always the best and you always give so much history and love with everything you do. Thank you!
I loved watching this video and feeling like I was right there with you in Yeosu, Korea. Your hometown is so beautiful and it's amazing to see how much it's stayed the same over the years. Your passion for Korean food and culture is infectious and I'm so glad you shared your experiences with us. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you and I hope you get to visit again soon!
Would love to see more in Korea if you have more footage, love travel vids and it's great to see your home. been over a decade (almost two holy crap didn't need that realization today lol was 07) since I got to see korea for work (seoul and daegu) and it was a great place. sorry it was for sad reasons
Very touching video, retracing steps and memories from your childhood. It is often said you can never really go back home, because things change while you are away. I found that myself. However, visits like these always bring back memories of what was. Thanks for sharing.

Im sorry to hear about your mum, i too worry about the day i will lose my parents. I really like these types of diary videos! Lots of love from the uk.
Nice clip......my first experience overseas was Dageu, my supervisor and I traveled everywhere. We ate so much good food, met wonderful people. We even found a gym and worked out with a Mr Korea champion - I was in the Air Force. To this day, I love Korean food. Watching your video, brought back so many nice memories. Someday, I would like to go back and visit.
I cried a bit when you mentioned your Mother has passed and doing the things you did together. Thank you for sharing this with us Maangchi. We love you. hugs
My dear Maangchi First, sorry to hear about your mother, my condolences with you and your family. Second, it is so good to see someone go back to their roots and cherishing the moments is mesmerizing, always❤. And you made it😊. Your place is really beautiful. I can understand your feeling as I have gone through the same. I happened to visit my roots, my native with my husband and children after a long 27 years. And it was surreal, sometimes it felt like so many things have changed, and sometimes felt nothing has changed, time has just stopped there and waited for me to come back😢... it felt really good🥹❤... Liked this episode, dear Maangchi❤ God bless!

It sounds like you had an amazing experience in Korea!

My dear Maangchi
First, sorry to hear about your mother, my condolences with you and your family.
Liked this episode, dear Maangchi❤
God bless!
