In this video I demonstrate a function that many people believe was removed in Logic 10.7; however, it has just been hidden, and is very easy to access. You can still organize your plug-ins in custom folders in Logic 10.7. Enjoy.
I have completely abonded this folder system when I started using the last Plugsearch version. It's amazing. Never go back. Only if apple made it native in Logic. Which should be a standard for Pro DAW.
Josh, that was great, thanks so much! One thing for those of you who want to move one or more plug-ins - by holding down Command and selecting multiple - from the Logic built-in folders that Josh "unhid" in this video: Hold the Option key while dragging them (green + sign appears), so they get copied to the new folder instead of moved out of it. This doesn't apply to 3rd-party plugs folder (below the divider) - those stay in there. Organize away!
I had no idea I could even do this, so awesome to know! I also discovered that you can just drag and drop any folder into whichever order you want; no need for an underscore.
Your videos are incredibly helpful, though I still have no idea how you front load all of that knowledge and just let it fly in front of a camera. You have a REAL TALENT for this, and your help has become a major part of my Logic Pro X experience.
You can also organize the _Favorites folder with subfolders creating folders on Category like _Favorites:Comp, _Favorites:Delay , _Favorites:Reverb :-)
You don’t need to add underscore, just drag the folder to the top of the folder list and it would just stay that way. Took me a long while to know that!
As I already had personnal plugin folders before the new version I didn't realize this feature was now hiden. But the day Logic will feature a quick search for plugins the music world will make a step forward! (something like the search by name system for the patches)
There is an app you can buy called PlugSearch. It's like $30. I did a review of version 1 a long time ago, I really liked it, but then it stopped working in one of the new OS's. Now I guess they've updated it and it works again. Might be worth checking out, but I did have several people with mixed reviews of it.
@@MusicTechHelpGuy I know this app. But, well, I deeply think one of the major DAW in the game would not need this kind of 3rd party band-aid. We're talking about Apple, one of the major company in the World, not 2 blokes developping a software in mumy's kitchen 😃
I bought PlugSearch 3 which is much more in depth and faster in use. You might want to check that out as well. I hope Apple picks it up and makes it standard in the next update.
Love that! I started breaking them down in the main categories by plug-in manufacturer. Makes finding them a lot easier, right? (I know...PlugSearch 3 is even more efficient. :-) )
It would be nice if Apple would not hide those special features that are available to us. For instance like putting those in the file menu so people can access those features.
T. -- I find that the Help menu can really help here: I didn't remember where the Plug-in Manager menu was, so I typed "plug" in the Help menu and boom, there it was. The File menu is for pretty specific things, but Help has everything in it, with a little search.
This is cool as I had no idea this was possible. When I went to try this, It was NOT hidden for me. Oh well... Also is there a way to change the default Rhodes instrument that loads to something else? Thank you! Big fan of your channel!
how come you don't have "recent" and the little favorite section in your plugin drop-down menu ? I have that on my Logic version on one machine, but not the new one I just baught ( same Logic version though).
THANXXX for all these videos everyone... but I'm a bit confused. Seeking to organize my favorite SOUNDS but every help Logic "how to" video only shows how to make folders for FX (so called "plug-ins). Does anyone know how we can make folders with our favorite SOUNDS (Logic or 3rd party i.e. Omnisphere etc) for quick access while composing?
I have been a Logic user since v4.xx....until Logic 9. I started using other DAWs at that point. I bought a new MacMini M1 and thought giving Logic Pro another go since I was using it for 15 years. I have a problem with the Logic timeline randomly jumping back and its frustrating as its getting worse as the session grows with more channels. So I am back to Reaper until Apple sorts this out...or is there a fix that anyone is aware of? I would like to use Logic Pro again, but this bug is doing my head in.
I'm having an issue with Logic since I upgraded. When I open a new software instrument track and select any electronic drum instrument the MIDI FX tab disappears. If I pull up the mixer and select ALL instead of TRACK I can assign a MIDI FX to each drum (snare, bass, etc). Previously, I used to be able to assign it to the whole track. This was very helpful when creating fills. When I RIGHT CLICK and select Channel Strip Components, the MIDI FX is checked as if installed. For other software instruments that was how I was able to load MIDI FX on the the track. Any help would be appreciated.
Im trying to do this right now, and its working well. But after I close logic and reopen it again all my settings are lost. How do I save these preferences?
I would like to delete the logic instruments in plugin manager so that they do not appear the first on the list when I click to load an instrument. Anyway to do this? It works for the effects but not the instruments
Does anybody else’s logic eat up a crazy amount of CPU compared to other DAWs or are my setting just not correct? It’s quite annoying. I love logic but it’s getting to me.

This drove me nuts one night trying to figure it out 😵💫
I didn't even know you could do this! You just saved me lots of time, and kept my "flow" from being interrupted. Many thanks!
JUST (!) when I was thinking about how to better organize my plugins you come up with this video. Awesome, thank you! 🙏
Simple and to the point. Super helpful as always. Thanks!
Exactly what I wanted to know, thank you. Greetings from Hamburg in Germany.
I've been wanting to learn about this since moving over to Logic Pro in October 2020! Next round is on me!
Always straight to the point, spot on, and super helpful around here. Much obliged kind sir
I love these short deep dives. I seem to find them just when I need that info.

Thanks for sharing your deep knowledge of Logic X with the rest of us!
You can also organize the _Favorites folder with subfolders creating folders on Category like _Favorites:Comp, _Favorites:Delay , _Favorites:Reverb :-)
I can’t believe I’m only discovering this now..!
That was the thing that most annoyed me about looking for plug-ins in Logic.
@@TheWorld_2099 I thought the same when I found out.
@@Hexaliohm can’t wait to organize my favorite plug-ins now..!
@@TheWorld_2099 And we're still waiting for apple to put a plugin search function.
@@Hexaliohm Yes, something convenient and useful

Yes, Zarkee, I find that when creating a new folder it goes to the bottom of the list, and I just drag it up to where I need it.
As always writing a comment to support the channel
That was so helpful! Thank you for always teaching us new things!
I feel so dumb now. Now I can organize my plugins! Thanks.
Brilliant thanks so much! Have wondered about that for so long!!
Thank you so much for showing how to do this, will make a big difference for me, so cool 😎
Thank you for this tip. This will definitely help my workflow! Great channel🔥👍
Another proof that your the best. Thank you so much!

@@FLH3official same thought here. Any free DAW offer a search function and Logic by Apple doesnt? Really?

Make subfolders using “:” in the name. Eg
Dynamics:Compressor
Dynamics:Expander
You can go multi-level…
Dynamics:Compressor:Opto

this is great but how do you create a sub folder within a folder? I can't seem to drag and drop my new created folder into a folder.
Thanks! its still a shame that you can't delete plugins from within the plugin manager... or can you?
this is so damn awesome thanks
I would love a video of why you use the non ARA version of Melodyne!
While the ARA version is much quicker for importing into that plugin, I have experience numerous bugs with the ARA version.
Awesome 👏🏽

Please help! I just renamed my created folders and all the plugins within disappeared. Is that a bug?
watching this before i give myself a headache
Is there a way to backup this listing? Sometimes logic has to be reinstalled.
Well done!! Thanx !!

Does this work with instrument plugins too?
What about organizing VSTs?
Thank you!!!!
Thank you!!l
All of us wait for Logic develop a better way to look for plugins like Ableton or Reason have done many year before!
Just go to 1:15 this guy can talk forever
Thanx:)
Great

but i still need search box

What computer are you using?
Why even hide it in the first place? They could spend time on other aspects of the DAW instead of changing things that don't need to be changed ...
This program is riddled with data loss possibilities. Having Apple hide things away too just makes things worse.
Am I the only one who didn't know about this??? 🤦🏻♂️
Always so Insightful !!!
