Rebuilding a NP231 Transfer Case for an LS Swap

Today we're rebuilding a Jeep NP231 transfer case so it can attach to a Chevy 4l60e transmission in an LS swapped XJ cherokee. The Jeep transfer case needs a different input shaft and adapter to correctly attach to the GM 4l60e transmission, so it gets torn down completely and rebuilt. Along the way we do find a few surprises like a failing oil pump, but overall the job is straightforward. This project is for a 1998 Cherokee XJ that we're LS Swapping to a 6.0 LQ4, 4l60, NP231 transfer case combination, but the general steps can be applied to nearly any transfer case, like a NP231, NP241, NP243, NP261, NP263, NV149 and so on. The Jeep Cherokee XJ is a great platform for off roading, and this one is equipped with Dynatrac Dana 60 axles front and back with 4.56 gears, e lockers, 37" tires on 17" beadlock wheels, a Rustys long arm suspension system, and a whole lot more. The Cherokee Sport XJ has always been a favorite body style of mine, and I can't wait to get this one out on the trail!
