There are so many people trashing this car who are just jealous they don't have one :)

Great video, thanks. Can you turn the fake engine sound off?

Thank you! As far as I'm aware, it can't be deactivated through the infotainment system. That doesn't mean it's impossible, though... - Cam

The GTI isn’t really meant to be a track car but it is a great everyday road car. It is tuned more for emissions than anything else.

Really enjoyed that thanks. Lots of good cars in this segment, so all I can do is implore anyone veering off to the VW garage to just turn around and walk out as soon as your other half goes 'oooo t-roc R'. No no no no no no.

Hahahaha, thanks! Enjoyed putting it together. Having recently driven a T-Roc R, I wasn't exactly blown away. So many great hot hatches out there, but this Golf GTI covers so many bases - Cam

@@YesAutoUK I'd just go to BMW (128ti) ford, Honda, mx5 etc and just borrow each for a day and see which I enjoyed the most. And buy that one

Ah, if we're throwing less practical cars into the mix (MX-5) I'd give the GR Yaris a go. Really brings something new to the hot hatch mix - Cam

What would you rather have: an all-rounder like the Volkswagen Golf Mk8? Or the more powerful, yet more hardcore Honda Civic Type R?

The 18" Austin's look terrible. The 19" wheels you can get look amazing.

Well people wanted it to have a mechanical diff and they got but at the expense of a lower quality interior.

On a positive note, there are quite a few interior upgrades, some as options: 1) three zone climate; 2) flip cover iso fix points (vs removable covers); 3) third isofix point in front passenger seat; 4) USB charging for rear passengers; 5) heated (front and rear) and cooled (front) seats; 6) eSIM capability for OTA software updates; 7) ambient lighting in the rear door panel and copyholder area; and 8) heated steering wheel. They're mostly convience features but still worth having. There may be more but they don't immediately come to mind

I'm not making excuses for the areas which appear to have gone a step backwards like the lack of physical controls for climate and volume. The gloss black surrounds for the infotainment and instrument panel displays looks far too thick for this day and age and will be scratched to bits when you try to go clean it.

    Front grille- Hideous... absolutely so!
    Fog Lights- A real "Cluster-f@ck!
Body- Panel line that runs up one side, jutting out and across the upper rear (hatch) and then down the other side panel is mundane, plain and trivial... and around the back is especially awful for a GTI.
Dash- Minimalist? I hate minimalist! Dash looks like the dash one would find in either a Honda Accord (mom and dad car) or a cheap, slow and low on features and interior style Honda Fit!
Minimalist? You mean VW is possibly getting too cheap to provide an exciting and feature-filled GTI cockpit?
LCD (LED?) Display- It may be clear, but it's overly complicated (especially compared to the intuitive Mk7/Mk7.5 display), and the fact it has no physical buttons/knobs, only sliders (which go bad much faster) is possibly the worst idea ANY auto maker/designer ever came up with. Ask Honda about the "no physical buttons/knobs "feature". They stopped it after only one
model year! All of the black plastic? Novelty-ish, cheap-looking when applied in too many places, and keeping free of dirt and smudges a nightmare.
Gear "shift"- What? You mean there is a shifter? Oh, there is no REAL shifter? No actual shifter or remotely similar on a GTI? Again, is this a GTI or a Honda Accord?
More Opinion- I could go on, and on... but it would take a novel!
Volkswagen... uh... GTI?- What were you thinking VW? I mean, this is, or, was supposed to be a GTI!
Don't like what I see, that's for sure. For other autos? Maybe. For a VW GTI? Absolutely not... at least, NOT for me!

Oh really I owned a 7.5 and switched to the 8 is better in every way design, technology, power and resale value😂

@@loganpadayachee6048 The MK 7.5 GTI TCR and MK7 Clubsport are collector’s cars already and have more reselling value than any MK8 model. Interior quality of 7.5 is superb compared to 8.
