      Only thing from outside 24 (or near) carot gold is way to soft. Would have gone with 18 carot or whatever longer life. Perhaps add copper and silver to mix to keep color similar to pure gold. But you obviously know the better amalgam ratios.

    Dear MG,
    18 months ago I started work as a back-office person in a nice jewelry store. I was interested in maybe becoming a jeweler, and showed a lot of interest to my shop's master jeweler. 6 months ago He took me on full-time to be his apprentice, and now I'm doing like 50 repairs a week, and doing 10 hours a week of additional skill study. I absolutely love this journey, as it has no ceiling, and allows me to be a part of so many beautiful things in life.
    I just wanted to thank you. I'm starting to do some really cool stuff now, and my early binge-watching of your videos really helped ignite my curiousity. You have helped me, and I am grateful.

    oh man i looove those brushes that give you a satin finish! and especially when you use it on a silver and gold combo piece - it's my new favorite thing to do, but with gold inlays in silver pieces. the texture really enhances the contrast between the metals, makes it look super classy, and also makes the piece look so lovely and soft. this is such a gorgeous piece! also, thank you for reminding me that i wanted to make a spinner ring :D

    I went to a silversmithing workshop back in march & made myself two rings from sterling silver blanks, one fits on my ring fingers while the other fits on my middle fingers. My fingers are quite chunky so I had to make them quite wide, thus I had some difficulty with the mandrel. I've just checked the slightly smaller one & the external diametre is 27 mm while the internal is just a dash under 25 mm. The bands are only 5 mm wide though.
    These are the only rings I have that fit my fingers, so I'm still getting used to the sensation.
    I obviously didn't make the blanks myself, but I'd be interested in making some more for myself. Probably stick with just silver though.

    • @ICU2B4UDO
      @ICU2B4UDO Рік тому +3

      @@toebiter69 What it means is...1.) The Gold should have been used as the main ring, not as the spinner...
      2.) Because Silver is really soft and has no density like Gold does, it should have been used as the spinner, not the main ring because it'll get banged and will deform easily
      3.) The main ring should have had a groove cut in it so the spinner could spin around easily but have had tight fitting walls to keep it from free floating...
      4.) The way he hammered the insides of the ring will have that spinner bobbing all over the place instead of a nice tight even circle...
      I used to have a similar ring like that but the whole thing was 14K Yellow Gold for the main ring and 14K White for the spinner...However, it came from Israel and cost about $500-$600 bucks and that was over 15 years ago...So, though the process was cool to look at and see, it really was sloppy and unfortunately it won't last long for all the work he put into it...

    My God! Your hands are so big. I following the blob series and I didn't realize you have big hands. Don't get me wrong. I admire that even that you have big hands you make jewelery. Some peope said that to make jewelery to must have smallhand with thin fingers. But you're great at this. I am a draftsman. A hobby of mine. The point is that I have stiff hands and for that I shouldn't draw, because hands must be "relaxed" for drawing and sometimes I thinked if I would be able to draw better with my stiff hands. But I must say I draw better. I make massage to my fingers and exercise to make them loose. Keep up good work.
