    I worked in a loop shop for long enough to tell you that the 2 dots on your dipstick the bottom one is the low mark and the top 1 is the full mark you need to be filling it to the top mark on the dipstick

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Рік тому

      Technically speaking, anywhere between those two dots is a safe oil level. Filling it to the top is fine just as having it in the middle.

    Good job. Coolant looks low is that pink or the red coolant. Already read through they told u bout the gskt,,,,, you can wipe with red shop rag sold at any parts store I re use ,,,, after oil filter install , you can shoot brake clean to get the oil pounder filter. Works perfect every time. I would recommend the deep pan it’s gray or green. Can use with all discards of oils ,,, will never have side splash. Good job bud. Am a toyota lexs mechanic 14 yrs lol.

    Haven't done this for a while so taking a quick refresh - a lot of good practical tips for newbies. A key point you didn't visually show is needing a socket and ratchet (or a 14 mm wrench) to get the oil drain plug off). That's key for a complete newbie - although you say it, you only show you unscrewing the drain plug off by hand. Otherwise, a very good practical video with good safety tips.
    (One last thing - no mention of replacing a crush washer on the drain pan bolt when putting it back on?)

      Legitimate point. Back then I didn't have the ability to setup my camera under the car and keep it stationary while I worked but I have since improved on that

    Rule of thumb, These non VVT 1MZ-FE's hold 4.8L/5.07qt, and the "MAX" - "MIN" dots on the dipstick state in basically camry, lexus applications to add 1.5L/1.58qt if it's right on the LOW point of the dipstick. But in all honesty a 5L/5.2qt jug of oil WILL NOT do any damage, you're only 200ml/0.21qt over which won't do any harm.

  • @DC-SA1
    @DC-SA1 4 роки тому +5

    To anyone watching, never, ever run your car with the oil fill cap off. This guy is lucky that the whole underside of his hood and top of engine were not showered with oil. It takes nothing to put the cap on, which also prevents dirt from falling into the engine..

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  4 роки тому +2

      It is definitely a good idea to put the oil cap on but it is very rare to find a car that will throw oil out with the oil cap off. Most all cars have baffles or the fill cap is in such a location to prevent that. I have seen it happen but it is not very common to have that happen any more.

    I just got an es300 a few weeks ago and this video really helped me out! Quick question, do you always have to change your oil filter with every oil change? And if so what brand(s) do you recommend? Thank you again for the easy to follow video!

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  4 роки тому +3

      First of all, congratulations. You will love that car. To answer your question, yes, As a matter of fact there are studies showing that you can extend oil change intervals by just changing your oil filter. While I don't recommend that, definitely change it with every oil change. I personally recommend Amsoil because of the extended oil drain intervals and their guarantee that if their oil damages your engine they will replace it.

    • @LexusJDM350
      @LexusJDM350 Рік тому

      If you're not getting the expensive Amsoil filter I'd say go with the OEM Lexus filter. They're only about $6 each and as long as you're changing every 6 months/5k miles you will be fine. As for the oil, I'd use Pennzoil Platinum Ultra or Amsoil Signature. And don't forget to check the oil quality every month! The older ES300 are know to cause sludge in the engines so you might need to change oil even sooner than 5k miles.

  • @EricAdamsonMI
    @EricAdamsonMI 3 роки тому +1

    The more important reason for lightly lubing the oil filter gasket is to ensure that the next time you change your oil, it comes off with the old filter. If you've ever mistakenly installed a new filter over an old, left-behind gasket, you've seen how quickly you can dump several quarts of oil onto your driveway! (If you haven't, it takes barely one second -- blink and miss it!)

    • @jaidenxiong9996
      @jaidenxiong9996 5 років тому +1

      Because they are the same car. Just different in signs and more expensive shocks and struts so they can charge you more money. If you want to drive a Lexus, buy a Toyota Camry v6 and replace more expensive strut, then you get a Lexus ride. Except, Toyota tuned Lexus crank shaft more advanced like 10 degrees so the sparks come in sooner and faster. In this case, you will have to put premium gas because premium gas is more resistant to preignition and knock.
