I love the song. Is it mindblowing? No. But it's got that classic RHCP feel that takes me back and John has returned doing his dope harmonies and guitar solos. I'm ready for the album!!
It is mindblowing. I can't remeber the last time a RHCP song excited me this much
I just love the vibe I get when these four get together the ridiculously funky basslines, beautiful guitar and Chad Smith just thrashes on drums, not to mention Anthony's voice, Its just a perfect formula.
This song is about the 2019/20 Australian bush fires. Flea is from Melbourne, Australia.
Chili Peppers is one of my favorite bands, and for me this was a perfect single to showcase that John is back. I had goosebumps in the intro and I got chills when his guitar rolled in during the first verse!
As someone mentioned before, it's not the most exciting, but in some sense it makes me really excited about the new double(!) album.
Ugh. Childhood nostalgia crashing through, but I love it! Also, Anthony's in and out "pirate" voice, am I the only one who noticed? 😆 Wish he didn't have the mustache or that hair style, but it is what it is.
I enjoyed it. This is definitely one of their more “chill” songs. Considering the fact that the new album will have 17 songs, it should be interesting what the rest will sound like.
I do like the meaning behind it (Aussie wildfires).
This song has definitely grown on me a lot. I love Johns solo and that tone. Takes me back to stadium arcadium. Also the chillis did a big Aussie tour in 2019 and just the other day hinted they’re coming back here.

I don't mind the song but definitely a fan of their older stuff. The first CD I ever bought was Californication when I was 12 years old. I played the shit out of that album! Great memories haha

As someone who liked Incubus right out the gate (and not for TOO much longer really) I can confirm that the Kiedis comparisons predate the moustache (and go beyond looks). It was funny to hear it again, took me back to the late ‘90s/early ‘00s to hear a couple dudes take note of that.
I’m a little shocked that Anthony Kiedis is going to be 60 this year!? Decent enough, good driving song. Also they were my first ever concert at age 13/14. Weird concert RHCP, N*E*R*D, White Stripes and Ash.
Use to listen to them all the time and even saw them live, they really do great live performances. It's true that they haven't lost their essence. btw it would prob be really hard to notice if Will Ferrell was or not in that drumset 😂

Great reaction. The are 10x better live. You should react to five it away live alcatraz 2006. Lifechanging stuuf. John Frusciante and this video made me pick up the guitar.
About the song. Black summer is refering to bushfires in australia in 2020. The country was "riding on a headless horse" because the prime minister of austalia decided to go to the vacations. Night dressed like a moon..., the sky refused to cryy...etc.

Been revisiting some Chili's albums on my commutes in the past week. By The Way is a super solid record, and I really dig some of the lesser thrashed tracks on Stadium Arcadium like "Charlie" and "Especially in Michigan"
Glad to see John back in the band. Not the biggest fan of this single but hopefully the double album has some gems
I think it is a solid song, i dont think they will ever have another massive hit just based on the direction that mainstream music is moving toward but they will always new solid songs for the fans that follow them even if their songs never reach top 40s again. P.S. mainstream music sucks hard these days

I don’t think the verses are supposed to be sea shanty inspired. I’m guessing this is Kiedis bringing more of his Native American heritage into the mix. That would seem to fit in with the theme of the song. In fact, that whole section reminds me of Cosmo Canyon from FF7🤣
