    In the current version, the woodwinds match the sound of the piano in the intro of the song. They also stay relatively soft and allow room for the brass to add the synth part on at meas. 13. I think the current arrangement matches the original the best.

    I am not nor have ever been much of a musician or even participating in marching band, but when I hear this song, I really want to see a well trained marching band perform it. Hopefully this arrangement will mean it will be coming to a halftime show this season.

    @yujing zou I got rid of the parts of the song where it was just rap and a stagnant beat. Whenever there was a change in the instrumental I included that in the music. There is enough to the instrumental of Can't Hold Us that it can be played pretty well as a stand tune.

  • @MatthewMcDermott6

    I have very limited experience with piano and its sheet music, so it would take quite a long time. I would suggest that marimba and vibe follow the chord structure of the song, which in this key is Fm Eb Cm Db. This is basically a four chord song. The melodic parts shouldn't be too hard to figure out, since they are only really a few notes.

  • @MatthewMcDermott6
    @MatthewMcDermott6  11 років тому

    I play slide trombone in concert band and marching baritone in marching band. I assume a "marching trombone" is similar to a marching baritone. Basically, you play the valves just like a trumpet, but use the same mouthpiece as a trombone. It doesn't take but a few weeks to get used to the fingerings, especially if you still read them like "3rd position" and "4th position" in your brain but translate it to the valves. (3rd position is just the first valve, 4th position is the 1st and 2nd, etc.)

    I love it! only thing is, I think there should be an extra measure of silence before 45, then have the low brass come in with that melody, and carry it up the range to trumpets (so like tuba, bari, trombone, horn, then trumpet) with the repeats.
    Just a friendly suggestion :P

    The only problem is the tenor sax part. Don't five tenor sax any notes below E4. It can go as low as Bb 3, but it's tough for players to hit that low and sounds better in marching band with mid and high range notes.

    • @AurorasHiatus
      @AurorasHiatus 11 років тому +3

      Psh, I sure can. It's just the fact that they didn't take the time to care for the instrument. Plus, what if the bass clarinet would have to play the bass line instead? No one would know.

    • @MatthewMcDermott6
      @MatthewMcDermott6  11 років тому +5

      RitzyBoon Well to be honest, when I arranged this I honestly didn't give a single thought about the bass clarinet. I still refrain from thinking about them. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Things will never be the same.

    • @bulbul1380
      @bulbul1380 7 років тому +3

      Well putting clarinet music in lower octave wouldn't be correct… It's mostly has the same rhythms of a tuba, along with different notes that, depending on the song could be the same or they could have chords…
      EDIT: sorry, I know I'm late…

    Hey! so I was wondering if it'd be alright to use this song for my school's marching show. It's one of the best arrangements I've found and my band already loves it (I've played it nonstop for them.) If so, can my drum line alter the part slightly to make it complex (they like making things harder than they are :/) Great job with this, keep it up!

    I played bari sax in high school, and all of them had the keys for the A below the staff. Unless the player is very inexperienced, they should be able to play the A fine

  • @MatthewMcDermott6
    @MatthewMcDermott6  11 років тому

    That part is vocalized by the brass anyways, so I figured it didn't really matter. But sure, to be more like the original piece you could make the last quarter note a step higher.

      Thanks! Before I arranged this I talked to my bari sax friends in my band and they told me that it could be a potential issue for some instruments, but none at our school. It's an easy fix if the player just wants to take it up an octave.

  • @HareyKid
    @HareyKid 11 років тому

    Yeah. in middle school my bari didn't have the low A key but that was because none of the songs needed them. Now in high school. Every bari as the low A key. It's just the matter of the brand. Most have the key, but very few don't

  • @MatthewMcDermott6
    @MatthewMcDermott6  11 років тому

    Well, I could have done both of those ideas, and they would have sounded pretty good in their own way, but I decided to just follow the original piece. This is mostly transcribed note-for-note. To me it sounds better to come in with the small treble section and then bring in the big bad bass.

    Is this the only version of the song that you've made?? Its 'cause in the beginning, I believe it could sound better if, after the percussion intro, it should be a brass solo instead of a woodwind solo. Would you consider trying it like that??
