Good job making original content and AMAZING JOB ON YOUR CHANNEL, videos are not boring and I can just listen to it while doing something else and imagining I'm you just travelling and experiencing the places myself, very amazing, keep it up!
Hey Lud, you’re an absolute legend for calling this out and it’s much appreciated. Andrew is a very thoughtful creator and it genuinely means a lot that you would stand up for him and smaller creators with your platform.
I do do UA-cam consulting, but I’m actually a straight up UA-camr with my own channel as well (albeit a tiny one with about 5K subs) and have had my content ideas also taken by much larger creators to much greater success, albeit in fortunately a less direct way.
Contextually, Andrew actually only had 18K subs before we published the capsule hotel video, and even less when Brent stole the other video’s concept. Being so close to it, I respect him for how much work he put into it, and so am deeply appreciative of the time you took to talk about this.
what is UA-cam consulting?
@@alexkwan3 You know how financial consulting works? Or when they bring in a new writer to rewrite a script? Kinda like that.
@@alexkwan3 UA-camrs will ask me for advice on how to grow their channels, in exchange for a fee. In my case specifically, I focus almost entirely on storytelling - in other words, working on a lot of the specific details of how the video is edited. The reason UA-camrs would ask for that advice is because if you make a video in a certain way, then you get better retention (i.e. people watch for longer), and UA-cam's algorithm will give your video more views if the retention is higher. Hence why I was part of Andrew's team in the first place, and why I was very very familiar with everything in the video.
@@dabi_ ur clearly great at ur job 👏
@@dabi_ What's your expertise? If your channel isn't that big, how do bigger channels trust you to know you can grow a channel?
If only UA-cam would use it's tools to protect the creators on it's own platform, instead of letting all of this shit happen.
Exactly like taking their shit off algorithm
huh same shit different day
The reason why they steal from smaller creators is because it goes under the radar most of the time and the likeness of a smaller creator fighting back and be heard is also smaller.
These thiefs are just morally bankrupt.
Yeah it happens for all kinds of creators. I see it often with small independent shops. Their designs are stolen by bigger shops and it usually goes unnoticed. The only way they can get something done is if they have an audience big enough to bring attention to it… which is where the larger creator abuses their power.
kind of crazy how large youtube has become. When I found youtube i knew all the top creators since they were all less than 1mil subs, now theres a kid with 26mil subs that ive never heard of
Facts when a UA-camr reached 1 million back in the day it was huge news everyone knew about and now it's like who?
same. bro kept showing all these youtubers and names and i kept saying wh omegalul. its kinda sad tho cause youtube doesnt have that community feel it had in 2012-2016
Everytime stream awards happen and I see that a Spanish UA-camr wins most watched or something or a Spanish Twitch streamer is most subbed I'm always taken aback because it's this whole other side of the platform that I didn't even know was that big and they're literally stomping everyone else
It is also because the content delivery system changed so much, subscribing to someone doesn't mean anything now unless you also opt into receiving direct notifications from them.
@@Adrift_ Yeah. It's like back then there were only like 10 million youtube users max. And now there are more than billion. 1 million meant more back then than 100 million does now :(
All the creators need to do is say "loved this idea from (insert creator here) and love their content, wanted to try it myself!" You give credit, you show appreciation and fans of both creators get the warm fuzzies from knowing two of their favorite creators know of each other.
Not too hard to be a part of a community rather than see this all as a competition.
"the warm fuzzies" is the perfect way to describe it, couldn't have said it better myself :3
This is what is needed more and is much more liked as often both creators receive more views and more positive feelings towards the creators.
I think there's also a difference between stealing an idea and completely copying. Like he could have done different hotels but did the same ones
it does make me very happy when they do that uwu
it changes when the said youtuber gets arrogant and entitled due to their own fame 😂
imagine how brent feels when he goes home after making all these cringe videos for 5 year olds, when he's all alone, with nothing but his thoughts, and he can't stop thinking about the fact that he has no meaningful accomplishments and has not provided anything of actual value to this world. I hope he is aware enough to one day realize this but I doubt it
Money does a pretty good job blurring out that lvl of personal development and awareness,
Brent Rivera literally got famous on Vine, 10 years ago, by stealing content from smaller creators. Dude has been doing this for so long, there is no way he thinks he is doing anything wrong at this point. He was 15 back then, but it seems like he really hasn't matured much past that. He knows his child audience doesn't care enough to hold him accountable.

Stealing content is scum behavior
What UA-camr?
If you have texts, emails, etc then you should have proof and should absolutely call them out
Start drama. Seek vengeance.
If you sent message and shared idea just post those screen shots
so? share the wealth. greedy & selfish.
I'll never forget the time I applied for Riot Games for Game Design and they had a cover letter asking, "Tell us one thing you would change about the game." So I spent about thirty minutes detailing a few specific items that were causing problems (This was back in S3-S4 of the game.) They sent me an email back saying thank you but we went with someone else and I was like, cool, ok. Two weeks later, they released a patch and almost word for word they took my ideas from the cover letter and implemented it in the game. They even used an entire paragraph that I had typed out, so I know it was intentional. I never felt so taken aback in my life lmao.
That's your fault for explaining too much

What's really interesting about this is that those smaller creators have their own style, their unique ideas and videos, like a brand. By snatching everything from around him on YT, Brent creates this image where he has no uniqueness, he is not a guy that someone watches for a brand of videos, but a guy who we most likely laugh at. He dives into everything, but he doesn't create anything, he is just farming views, and there is no entertainment value. I hope no brands will make deals with him ever. I saw some collaborations with him recently and it got me to despise these creators who I originally liked that they made sth with Brent ... awful
Thank you for covering these sorts of things. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a situation on Instagram about an artist I follow. She's a smaller artist, and someone stole her work, put it as their own. And because the thief has a bigger following, people actually did accuse the original artist of "stealing" even tho the idea was originally hers. It was a really sad situation, and it sucks that it's more common than we think that these kinds of things happen. Thank you for a least sharing some awareness on this
i feel like for some reason especially young youtubers forget that plagiarism is an actual thing lmao?? also there is definitely a difference with being INSPIRED and STEALING
With the way the internet is now and days and everything being "googleable" and looking things up on wikipedia. I don't think plagiarism is being taught, or emphasized at all anymore.
Could you elaborate on how doing something, filming it, editing it all on your end would be stealing? Did the original creator 'own' the idea of staying in these hotels?
is brent rivera a YOUNG youtuber?
For some reason? what could it be? Didn't Ludwig argue against Nintendo just LAST VIDEO, because they had the audacity to claim what was legally their copyright? I wonder where this disrespect comes from. LMFAO
@@BerkKayhan No shit. That's why there's no legal action.

The UA-cam creator space feels feels like my microeconomics lessons come to life.
(Multiple firms in a market, when one firm innovates, everyone follows, until that idea is oversaturated, then hype dies down)
The issue with these YT creators who make videos for a younger demographic is that their audience hasn't fully figured out how to handle finding out someone they look up to sucks. That younger audience tends to default to "anyone criticizing something I like is wrong." Not blaming the audience for that. It takes time and growth to be able to handle that sort of thing well. The times I've had creators I like do something awful have been genuinely difficult to come to terms with, as parasocial as that is.
These creators can plagerize, they can disrespect the dead, they can say horrible things to people in person or in DMs and there won't be any real consequences. Their audience will defend them. I think it's super lame to take advantage of younger people like that.
well no coming from someone that wasnt so old so long ago nah thats just some dumber fans even as kids in the comments you had a brain reading words even in controversial spots, and i was also unsupervised its a, individual thng

I would like to add something.
The original video is a twist on Connor and Chris's wacky weekend. They went to that capsule hotel a year ago. That's okay though. It's basically Inspiration VS Forging Art conversation. The original video was inspired by Abroad in Japan and CdawgVA while that UA-camr's video is basically stealing.
I knew i had seen some of the hotels from wacky weekend!!
But yeah, while the general theme is the same between Connor/Chris's video and the smaller ytber's, the latter changed the narrative and added some originality. He took inspiration and made his own thing. Whereas this brent guy seemingly just copies instead of yoink & twisting.
every location as far as I could tell has been in either an abroad in japan video or a wacky weekend
@@MysticCat21 Yeah exactly.
@@spriggsyuk Yeah
And Connor and Chris took inspiration from the silent Japanese travel channels.
The reason I believe that taking ideas from larger YTers is OK is that your imitations won't overwhelm the algorithm. Someone more popular will have their vid brought up first cause they have more people to boost their metrics.
Doing this to a smaller guy takes away traffic in a way that it wouldn't if you get an idea from a bigger guy.
its even more fucked up when they just play it off and look inspired, and they never asked, not even once asked permission to use the idea

Zealous, aka the guy that Brent was stealing the doghouse idea from, did actually give the creator who had the original idea a lot of credit within the video. The creator goes by "DrewBuildsStuff" and I highly recommend his channel.
What's even crazier is he isn't stopping at stealing UA-cam videos, but also fraudulently stealing other UA-camrs' revenues. A good example is Dumpy, another smaller creator compared to Brent, who made a series of videos reacting to Brent's videos and making a few jokes, which would count as transformative content. But because Brent got too butthurt that someone was making fun of him, he claimed the videos that Dumpy made under the pretense that he only reuploaded Brent's videos without any changes whatsoever.
What’s even crazier is that he made it in Forbes 30 under 30 list.

I think it just comes down to respect for who you're taking the idea from. It's hard to come up with genuinely good ideas, so it makes sense that people take from others when they see one. But there's a huge difference between doing enough to look like you care and actually caring. For example, I've seen countless videos that stole an idea, and some literally say at the beginning "thanks to x youtuber for the idea". Also taking the effort to twist it to your own style/ put in your own work rather than a direct rip off is a big sign that you actually respect the person who came up with the idea. And if you're directly ripping an idea off of many different creators, that's too far
Yeah! And sometimes, it's fun watching both videos because different people react differently to the same thing or situation. But Brent Rivera just does kinda the same, so why would someone be interested in watching him do the same again? Or why would his audience be interested in checking out the original creator?
This is pretty sad, but nothing is sadder than Brent's actual content.
After years, I finally see someone exposing this UA-camr. Thanks
The number of tiktok, reels, videos he's been "inspired" by without ever crediting anyone for years
The $25,000 dog house was also stolen. I remember seeing that video months ago by someone else. EXACT same house too
Brent is known for also taking down every video that shows a little piece of his video even for commentary
I feel like the creators that have younger age groups tend to do more of this because the kids don't notice it since they are probably lookin gat that topic in general through multiple vids and not caring but its also the kids that then take from that and do it themselves, its basically a chain reaction of my generation forgetting that there is such thing as plagiarizing
This reminds me of a friend of mine who has around 30 subs told me that a bigger creator stole their videos and put a watermark on them, which caused them to delete the original videos.
Brent Rivera is the equivalent of that one kid who has a double digit IQ and takes some kids homework and just puts his name at the top
Thank you for the "my cam froze" message at the start. I'll have times where the video freezes for a couple seconds. "He could upload a video of him literally shitting into a trashcan for 1 hour uninterrupted and that would receive millions of views."
Brent, this idea is still up for grabs.
And it would be indistinguishable from his current level of uploads.
“This idea is still up for grabs” maybe that’s why he _doesnt_ want it
he cant, he has to wait for someone else to do it first, that's his schtick. god forbid he has to use his brain and be original.
There is already a concept in art about "steal from the best and make it your own". Keyword is make it your own. As in... you can use references but make the work unique to you. Not just plagiarizing.
" my viewers are so much older and cooler and they're basically in hospice " ... this i found very funny
Hilarious that I showed up twice in those searches 😂 I also partially got the ideas for those exact videos from Fundy.
The idea of using ideas from other creators is for sure something that I've thought a lot about. I agree with your thoughts here. Even if an idea is similar, it's important to keep the videos themselves original. Also, creators need to come up with fresh ideas themselves instead of duplicating for profit. I think this definitely strikes an interesting conversation about intellectual property when it comes to digital content. Additionally, the power dynamics between large and small creators. There's certainly a lot to unpack in terms of digital media.
I love how in both thumbnails there are a pair of legs hanging out of the capsule😂 brent not even trying at all

If I was taking an idea like this I would make it very obvious where the video came from, credit in the intro and even the title, make it incredibly obvious that you are doing this because you thought the video that the other UA-camr had an awesome idea and that you should check them out because they make quality content. You're right, no-one checks the description, that is not enough credit.
It's the same way that sealing from a large chain is not nearly as detrimental as stealing from a local store. To Brent it's one of many videos, but to Drew it's a quarter of his entire channel.

I have no idea who any of these creators are (including this channel...not even sure why it came up in my feed, lol), but I think copyright law can be a good benchmark for this situation to determine if something is truly scummy or not. The key word in determining whether the use of copyrighted material as a reference is fair is the word "transformative". Even if the work is heavily based on another work, if it sufficiently transformative there is no problem from a legal perspective. So while I'm not a big fan of copycatting people, if your content is sufficiently different you can at least make the argument that your content is transformative. I don't think any of the videos showcased here qualify as transformative.
when you yoink and twist the yoink and twist but forget to twist
the fact that brent changed his thumbnail for the video ever since hes been receiving backlash on stealing the video idea 💀
"Let me copy your homework."
"Okay, but change it up differently so it doesn't seem like you fully copied it."
Except nobody gave Brent the permission to copy their work.
Also, time to utilize the machine learning to scan for the audio or something, isolate the vocal and try to match similarity of the speech and words being said. And if there is inherently a X% similarity, disqualify it from the promotion of the algorithm. Any tech gurus having nothing to do on a weekend to make this and send it to youtube?
I would honestly have no problem with the video if it was another “100 hours in a capsule hotel” video without spitting bar for bar, play for play, the exact same video. If it was different hotels, different experiences, maybe throw in a “I was inspired to do this by Drew Does, subscribe to him :)” verbally said in the introduction to the video.
The fact that he also changed his thumbnail recently too is just shameless
Brent Rivera is human AI 😂
WHY IS LUDS CAMERA ALWAYS FREEZING
