I stayed at the Chip in 98 in a $10.00 tent from Wal-Mart and a tarp from the hardware store in Sturgis. Rained like a bitch. That was before the fancy stuff they got now. Lol 😆 Rode a 81 Wide Glide from Louisiana. Had a great time. I was single then. Lol
Stay at Lamphere ranch a lot of shade, neighbors are Glencoe. Like my sleep so I can ride all day. At 67 party nights aren't as much fun. Been a steady visitor since 2009.
Hidden Gem if you enjoy quiet and want to be close to some of the best riding in the black hills. Last year I rented a cabin at the Custer KOA. Really nice campground and great staff. Cabin is only $120 or so a night and they don't raise rates for the rally. As of this morning, they have four left.
Hey monkey I recently found the channel and i got to say if i never found this channel and the Sturgis series i would have never gotten into riding i just got my first bike (an Indian scout sixty) and dream of taking it to Sturgis in a few years when I figure out how to ride the damn thing. So thank you for making the type of content that can make someone like me who thought they would never ride a bike to wanting to ride one everywhere.
My wife and I have ridden to Sturgis several times from Florida. Everything you said is right on point. We like the Creekside Campground on hwy 79. It is close to the action, has lots of shade, and reasonably priced little cabins.
I'll probably never get there but blackberry smoke is coming to my neck of the woods in new Brunswick Canada R10 venue in longs Creek 45 mins from my front door can't wait outdoor show.
I stayed at Steele pony last year had a lot of fun. Actually met you at one of the bike shows. Enjoy. I can’t make it this year but plan on next year. Keep the videos coming great job.
I stay at Sacora Station Campgrounds in Piedmont. Bar and pool. It was great but new owner thinks it a gold mine and went from $800 to $2200 for a cabin all 10 days. They say they're fixing it up but time will tell.
For a less expensive and quieter place not too far from Sturgis, we stayed at Black Hills State University in Spearfish. Only about 20 miles from Sturgis, right next to Spearfish Canyon, and Da Bus goes there too!
2024 will be my first trip to Sturgis. We are riding from Maryland. I have found your videos extremely helpful and entertaining. My question is what kind of roadside assistance should we get? I have been stranded on the road in the middle of the night and scrambled for hours trying to find a tow truck. I would not like to repeat it. Do you have any recommendations?
Days End Campground right off of Exit 30, it's a chill campground with it's own bar and food service of course. What's unique about Days End is that at the end of the day when you're spent from all the riding and walking and eating and damn near on your last grunt. I've stayed at the afore mentioned campground you named and the thing about Glencoe you could see it all, fuckin, fightin, general mayhem. As many times as I've been to Sturgis, at the end of the day I like to be comfortable and chill with my friends. 🙂
Mr. PM Maybe you could include in one of your Black Hill videos a list of great bars and restaurants that are open all summer long. A lot of people, me included love going to the Hills in the off season.
I stayed at the Steel Pony last year. Nice place and like being able to sit at the bar and watch all the bikes ride to/from the CHIP to downtown. Saw you and the Mrs;s even!!!
Definitely a gamble staying at the steel pony… it’s hard to beat stumbling back from Taco Chip at the ass crack of dawn and not having to deal with the crowds waiting for Da Bus to get back to your campsite… I encourage you attend Sasha’s party first weekend you’ll love it!

Great campground. Cheep great meal exit 46 Piedmont American Legion. $14 last year so I'm sure either food prices it will go up a couple dollars. You get salad, bread, meat, potatoes, cake and ice cream. Best and cheapest you'll find in all the area.

I am also a guy who likes to ride. This year I am going to be riding to Sturgis from Florida (Cocoa Beach) and wondering do you know of anyone making the trip on bike as well? My plans are open on when I will leave just as long as in Sturgis by August 4th. Doing the Camp EZ Ride thing for the whole event. Either way great content and hope I can buy you a beer while I’m there!!
I can ride a 1000 miles in a day if needed. But will most likely only do 5-6 and enjoy the ride through small towns and hit up “The Tail” on the way up.
Can relate to the downtime at shippers, driver. I’m also making the trip, but doing it in an RV. Still taking a week long trip on the bike in a couple weeks. Not 100% sure plan yet. Either to Reno via Denver/US50 and back via US2 or down to FL, Key west to as far north as I can get before having to head towards house Abakan via US1 or 17. Home base is the Chicago area
@Jeremy Belko I'm from Alaska and going to Ohio. Can you tell me about your toll roads and how to get around Chicago PLEASE? I can send you my phone number or you can ask Bob and Tams Excellent Adventures and Tam will give it to you.

Okay we are camping at the Buffalo Chip we had the early bird from July 31st to August 13th was 295 the Shower Deluxe was 95 trailer 55 so we paid for all that will be 511.75 hope to yall around .
I just started watching your channel and have subscribed. Thank you for all this great info about Sturgis. My daughter lived in Rapid City up until this last December, and thought I would have a place to stay. Well now she is home so looking for other options. The trip may wait until next year so I can plan it out right. But all this info is super helpful. Thanks again!!
Be at Chip again this year. Love it there because of the music. I can get plastered, and drive my golf cart back to the camper to crash. Bikes and alcohol don’t mix well.
We snagged a cabin at the KOA at Palmer Gulch for about $800 total for four nights in a cabin between three of us. Prior to that it was a backyard in Sturgis proper for $20/night. As soon as they announced the dates for Sturgis, we booked it. Deadwood KOA was twice that cost. We thought a good ride every day on the way to somewhere and home would be a nice thing to try and since we’re not really drinkers, it wasn’t a big deal to have that evening ride home… Especially if it’s as freaking hot as it was last year
I did something last year I really liked. Split my time. Deadwood/Sturgis area for the main week and then stayed in Keystone to ride needles, Custer, iron mountain for a few days. Saved time, gas, and lodging $.
I actually drove by Sturgis is week. Got a lot of construction going on around there so plan for a different route going into town. Gonna be extremely heavy traffic. But hope to be there some year and have a drink or 20 with you and the Mrs.
Im a local and camp there the whole rally with friends. It's kind of a hidden secret that is growing and you'll love it! Owners are amazing, good food and entertainment. Also a bus pass with your camping and they take you to all the venues. Great choice! They also have concerts every weekend year round. Just a great atmosphere 🎉
It's a great spot. Very clean showers, laundry, bathrooms. I haven't stayed their but been there plenty. You are good to go. If your looking fir a great meal the American Legion in Piedmont exit 46. Last year $14 gir a full meal with cake and ice cream.
first time going to Sturgis this year, coming from across the border from Detroit. Got a hotel in Deadwood which was astronomical. Hopefully its worth it.
Monk, I’m attending from Scotland for my first (and possibly last) Sturgis. Booked in at the Chip. I plan on wearing a kilt, but do you know the law on whether I can go “True Scotsman” or not?
So...I hate to correct you, but the Chip has single concert ticket booth just outside the entrance on the east side. I've been to at least 10 concerts there, but never stayed in the campground. Saw George Thorogood there, ZZ Top, and many others. This will be my 25th rally. Have fun. Wayne out West
For the grey beards, a more quiet campground is Kathmandu which is south of Sturgis. They run a shuttle into Sturgis everynight on t he hour. Close in but quiet.
Stayed at the chip one night last year in my buddies toy hauler, so glad we had AC. Otherwise I stay at my parents retirement home in Spearfish now... We've stayed at a hotel in Deadwood before as well in... 16 I think it was, split a room between the wife and I and another couple we're friends with. Comfort wise, We prefer either hotel or now that Dad's retired, his house.
There are some smaller mom & pop campgrounds in Hill City / Custer that had electric hookups for tents last time I looked. Its a good option if you want quiet and don't plan to stay late in Sturgis more than a night or two and don't mind riding an hour to your tent.
@@ninjaridaz4571 I wish i could. Twisted T Campground in Hill City was the name of the one, but when i rode past last year it had sold. I believe it was called the Firehouse Campground now. Big Pine Campground is in Custer and was still there last year. Both were great if you want to turn in early and like peace/quiet.
I'm not much for crowds and sitting in traffic but I'd love to see that area and to ride all the good roads. Would you suggest a place to stay outside of the rally
@Vincent Murante it all depends where and what you have in mind to fo and see. Now if you go a week early or stay a week after is great. Last year by Wednesday things started to end down. We didn't get the second weekend rush. By Friday it was a ghost town almost. In all my years I've never seen anything like that. I will be there from 1-15 August in Piedmont area. Now if you want to take a chance this year might be like last vome on out and look me up. I stay at Sacora Station Campgrounds in Piedmont. It's centrally for me. It go 12 miles to Rapid or 14 to Sturgis. Its a quiet Campgrounds and used to be dumpy cabins for $800 fir all 10 days but new owners jacked prices to $2200. I heard they're putting in new cabins, showers and bathrooms. I eat at the American Legion just fine the road about a mile and last year it was $14 full meal. Salad, bread, meat, potatoes, cake and ice cream. Now if your just going to do rides Keystone or Hill City is in the middle of the action. There are some really good places to eat I've been told but never tried other that Ruby's in Keystone. It's top notch. Anything else I can help with give me a shout.
I will probably have to trailer my bike and stay at one of the hotels next year. Will I have trouble parking my empty enclosed trailer while I'm there?
The camp pass is the wrist band. You cant get in past the gate without one. With a wrist band you can set up a tent pretty much anywhere you can find a piece of ground in the tenting areas. The wrist band is good for all concerts for the days you have the wrist band for. You can buy one day or the whole rally. The RV spot is a different fee for the space to park it.
@@gregkanash365 that’s a 100% incorrect. I just got off the phone with the folks at the Chip. The RV pass only gets you the RV spot, it doesn’t get you into any concerts. You have to buy a wrist band for every day you want to go to a concert. I bought a concert pass for the entire rally for my wife and at $320 each. The folks at the Chip confirmed this morning that was the correct way to do it.
First timer in 23, staying in the South40. Getting there Thursday the 3rd but have to leave the following Thursday morning. Would love your opinions on the things that a first timer has to do to get the full experience, besides the rides and concerts.
Love your Sturgis series Monk, Ive watched all of them and they never disappoint, just curious about were in Keystone you and your dad stayed in 2015? Cheers from the Great White North.
@Hoghead Bill I thought that might of been you. How's it going? Spring finally made it to Alaska. I still have about a foot of snow at my remote property. Was there over the weekend.
I'm planning on riding out after labor day 2024 and seeing all the area has to offer. I'll be in the area 8 days. What is a good centralized location to stay or should I stay in 2 separate locations? I enjoy your channel for the information you give and the fact that you're someone I would enjoy hanging out with. A true sarcastic smart ass😂
If you are just going for the rides, I would stay near Hill City, Keystone or Custer. Then you are closer to the better riding areas while still being relatively close to Rapid City if you need something.
Monkey! Hey man, I’m traveling from Tampa FL, staying in The Lodge at Deadwood. We are going the week before the rally officially starts. I’ve heard the week before is still a pretty good time and with less of a crowd. Can you vouch for that? We want to get in some good riding and a little bit of the rally action.
I was thinking about going the week before Sturges Starts, and stayed a week that actual Sturges starts. Will that be a good idea For someone that's never been.
Hey Monkey, just found your channel. Your a riot dude. Wife and I enjoy the sense of humor and the random squirrel moments😂😂yous our kind of crazy😂😂.. I do have a serious question though. I heard only 87 octane is available in the Sturgis area and most little towns dont have 93. Is this true?? Do I need to bring octane booster? This will be our first time going so trying to prepare as much as possible..thanks for replying 💪
2024 Sturgis! First time going. Hopefully we see ya somewhere Monkey! Can’t wait for the epic rides and experience. We’re booked at the ride and rest.
You forgot to mention the free camping on the public land. Good way to go cheap is Camp 5!
Lol
Lampier Ranch Campground is great for tenting and has plenty of trees. We trailer now and stay at Suzies campground , which is a great place to stay
Pappy Hoel Campgrounds is opening up on June 10th
Stay at Lamphere ranch a lot of shade, neighbors are Glencoe. Like my sleep so I can ride all day. At 67 party nights aren't as much fun. Been a steady visitor since 2009.
You left out Lampier ranch in front of Glencoe great place to stay.
There is still some full RV sites available left at Glencoe as of this morning
Quiet time and an easy ride to Sturgis is Custer State Park. Rode some awesome country and did Sturgis as a bonus.
I stayed at Creekside last year. Great place. Clean, quiet. If a person wants to be able to get sleep at night, Creekside is the place.

Glencoe is THE spot to get rowdy. The alley is insane once the sun goes down. I hear Shade Valley is a pretty chill campground also.
Really cool to get a video getting tips for somebody who's not a biker to check out a bike week like Sturgis or Daytona
Great story, memories, ty for sharing
Great Job! Thanks for sharing!!! I did ride from Pa to Sturgis on a Sporty many years ago. Ouch!!!!!! Got rid of it the next year for a Road King!
I'll be at Glencoe this year for all the shenanigans and debauchery!
I'm more of the quiet type in my older age. Elkhorn is my favorite place these days.

Kickstands campground!
Great place I think.
The koa I worked there one summer and it also had a meeting motel to but that was back in 2008 it was a cool place had a bar and place to eat.

In addition to your camp pass for the RV aren't you required to buy a wrist band for the concerts at the Chip?
Ride N Rest! Yeay baby...that's where I'll be this year! Woot!
Love your Sturgis series Monk, Ive watched all of them and they never disappoint, just curious about were in Keystone you and your dad stayed in 2015? Cheers from the Great White North.
Bill, I'm from Alaska. Where you from?
@@nadewitt-yf6ng Neil, I'm from Alberta Canada, we have emailed each other before
@Hoghead Bill I thought that might of been you. How's it going? Spring finally made it to Alaska. I still have about a foot of snow at my remote property. Was there over the weekend.
Good to hear spring is there, we have no snow but half the province is up in flames.. really smoky
@Hoghead Bill I head that and my sister lives in Minnesota and she smells it. She says she hopes you guy get it put out soon.
We stay at kick s😊tands
Snoop let us down last year!! Was really looking forward to seeing him..
If you don't mind moving I'd just go it will be a lot cheaper after the rally. Stay wherever your at for the night.
Shade Valley is a very nice campground. It is 8 miles beyond the Buffalo Chip on Hwy 34.
TJ Glencoe still has 30 amp full hook up sites today 5/24
I was thinking about going the week before Sturges Starts, and stayed a week that actual Sturges starts. Will that be a good idea For someone that's never been.
Would it be terrible to go to sturgus without you bike the first year?
Hey Monkey, just found your channel. Your a riot dude. Wife and I enjoy the sense of humor and the random squirrel moments😂😂yous our kind of crazy😂😂.. I do have a serious question though. I heard only 87 octane is available in the Sturgis area and most little towns dont have 93. Is this true?? Do I need to bring octane booster? This will be our first time going so trying to prepare as much as possible..thanks for replying 💪
