- Liverpool led the way at the top of the First Division as Birmingham travelled to Anfield in February 1977. But the Reds were only one point ahead of second-placed Ipswich, having also played three games more. So, a win here would be a welcome boost. Birmingham had Trevor Francis and Howard Kendall in their side and had beaten Liverpool at St Andrew's earlier in the season. Gerald Sinstadt commentates.
What a player Steve Heighwqy was...tremendous and brave
Seeing these 70's videos reminds you what a marvelous player Steve Heighway was. Also Ian Callaghan, despite his years, put in non stop performances and barely put a foot wrong.
Thanks for these highlights Adrian-the great Liverpool side of the 70s at their best!
watching these old Liverpool uploads from 70s' and 80's you can see the 'Liverpool way" IE the way Herr Klopp wants his sides to play
closing down immediately with quick passing , when you partner that with top players you will go close to titles etc..
I'm encouraged to think Klopp will get it right in the net year o 2 and the title will go back to Anfield
It's two years on since your prediction and as of today 7/10/18 you ain't far wrong! If Liverpool beat Man City this afternoon I would say that you are pretty much spot on mate!
Ps I have never done the lottery but if Liverpool win the title, could you choose the numbers for me? Haha!
This comment aged well lol
The pitch like a swamp , but football played at its very best , bruising tackles , no malice , Heighways goal , world class , the only way to play football , the Liverpool way

Great upload - thanks. I do believe that this game was the first Liverpool match I ever saw (on TV of course). It's been a bumpy ride these past 40 years although the first 13 went quite well..........
Heighway Toshak and Keegan were amazing.
David Lawlor
The best ever in a Liverpool jersey
Ooof what a hit by Heighway. Great game played at a great tempo.
great upload Adrian, Birmingham always had a pretty physical approach to the game and even though he wasn't in these highlights much, Francis could put himself about a bit
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC FOOTBALL...
YNWA...
❤⚽️🙏💥
There will never be a team to top the 70s liverpool team
Thanks for the upload.
@Adrian Houghton. Great uploads! soccer played on plowed fields!!!
Nice of the ref to give them a two goal start.
Excellent top ✅😍😍😍
And Kenny Burns? Didn't he end up at Forest - with Trevor Francis?
yes
as a centre half
He had a fantastic career at Forest. Player Of The Year 1978 when Forest won the league.
One of the hardest players ever...
When football was real The Crowds the shitty pitches the proper kits and the shitty toilets Liverpool a great team too
Page, Jones, Toshack were, like myself, great Welshmen! Not that Iam biased mind you!
1:24 did you see the kick , 😅😅😅😅
Ray Kennedy.Steve Heighway.
Where is the reverse fixture from St. Andrews ? Lol
I was at that game
It was a dive? Dives weren't invented till the 90s
Kenny Burns........teeth like a crossword puzzle.
Why Liverpool won so much Watch them running off the vall
The referee was so biased to Liverpool, it's actually quite funny.
What a great side that was: Clemence, Neal, Jones, Thomson, Kennedy, Hughes, Keegan, Case, Heighway, Toshack, Callaghan.
Nr 12 the referee
@@sorenkarlsson4836 Don't cry

The referee might as well have been wearing a red shirt.
