It's so cool to see that the retro look is coming back from different manufacturers. I like both vehicles with a slight tendency towards the Grenadier. This is what the new Defender should have looked like.

Imagine calling a Landcruiser an icon, I’ve owned both the 100 series and the 200 series and both of them gave me no end of grief, especially the 200 series, damn thing nearly sent me broke with one major problem after another. I bought both vehicles for continuous off road work and they just don’t stand up to hard work, Ben has it right with his comment that the Landcruiser is a luxury vehicle mainly used on bitumen with occasional off road ability.

I think the Ineos is here to stay. A screen in front of the driver and an electronic sway bar disconnect what I would want. Other than that this thing is awesome. The BMW shifter doesn’t bother me one bit. Of course I am a BMW owner for the last 30 years. One car at my house is always a BMW reliability is very good not sure what people talk about. I’ve had more issues with my Siena mini van than I’ve ever had with any BMW.

I think you pretty much captured it, Ben. The Grenadier will survive Armageddon, the LC will survive kids going to soccer practice. I’m not actually sure which is more brutal - mixed feelings on that. The LC/Grenadier choice was my big dilemma. Love Toyotas, own a couple, pretty sad about the hybrid 4 and IFS on the LC. That was a let-down for a lot of LC owners. So I thought maybe with bumper swaps, lift, upgrades to wheels, tires, suspension, skids - it could give me the best of both worlds. But you forgot to mention the dreaded dealer markup! My Toyota dealer was telling me $10k for LC with premium package - much more to try to land a rare First Edition - so with the mods, I would easily spend as much or more than my Grenadier. And in terms of build and components, Grenadier is WAY tougher - my service guys at Toyota got mine up on a lift and were blown away. They’re both great, but really different, even though there are a lot of visual similarities. On one, you can build it up so it’s decent off-road; on the other, you can tweak it to make it a little more civilized. In the end, I went with my inner 6 year-old. “But I reckon I got to light out for the territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she’s going to adopt me and sivilize me, and I can’t stand it. I been there before.”

😂😂😂 your joking right?? Toyota is proven reliable durable and tough in every corner of the world for 70 years !!! They are still running like clockwork in Asia Africa Australia America with million miles on the meter with original engines … ineos May look tough but you try getting the ZF gearbox or bmw unreliable engines components when your stuck in Africa or Asia in the mountains desert 🐪… if your life depends on it like in -40 or +50 .. the only car you would choose is LC… you cannot compare 70 years of history to 7 months in Chelsea school run … get Toyota mate ❤

@@Evoque786 we’re talking about the new LC launched in the US - not an old school 70 or 300 that we can’t buy here. And no, I’m not kidding - and neither is my Toyota service team. The new LC is a delicate flower compared to the Grenadier. Frame, axle, steering, transfer case - all are more built out on the Grenadier. And it’s not the old bulletproof The new LC is NOT the same, at all, as what we once had in the US. You have to evaluate it on its own terms - not the legend of the badge. My Toyota service guys call the new one “effeminate.” Toyota fans, and I am one of them, are now forced to make the same hard choices that old school Defender fans have to make - the badge is the same. The truck is not. Say goodbye to the awesome Toyota inline 6, or the glorious 8 of days gone by. Those are dead and gone in the US.

@@octoslutOctoslut - I really don’t want to know the story behind that. Sure, there’s some risk around repairs, but nothing to get all panicked about. I use an independent mechanic for a lot of my stuff - took it in for him to look at and he was like “Damn this is the easiest thing I’ve seen in years.” Even my Toyota guys at the dealership were all getting man crushes and giving me their numbers to do service on the DL. A lot of the parts are high quality standards, not proprietary. So, a little risk and maybe not something that super price sensitive or risk averse buyers should consider. But Ineos doesn’t have huge ambitions - 30k units per year, world-wide. That’s their magic number. Plenty of us who can handle a little risk in return for something like this. You have to remember- just because something isn’t right FOR YOU doesn’t make it a bad idea. Maybe YOU are not the target buyer.

@@ElderStatesman-pi3lc : kidding aside, I have been in R&D design development for 30 years.. no company in the world do tougher D&R testing than the Japanese..their specifications are amongst the toughest, especially for the powertrain. The material development has progressed tremendously over the last 10years.. the real world feedback into design phase has allowed Toyota to reduce weight, increase modal stiffness whilst maintaining or improving the performance. Ineos looks robust cos their design is still immature and using heavier components with unnecessary weight and strength.. with experience they will get better. Toyota warranty is 10 years or 100,000 miles .. with 12 years paint. Ineos is offering 5 year’s warranty with 60,000miles warranty .. so that tells you the level of confidence or lack of confidence Ineos has in its product. After 30 years of design and development, I can tell you with 100% certainty that 99.9% dealers and their technicians do not have the technical knowledge experience or understanding even close to us who design develop and manufacture vehicles.. proof of the pudding will be 5 years from now :) hope this helps

The Ineos is really nice except the dash in front of the driver is absolutely horrific, which limits the useful area of the center screen and forces the driver to look to his right when driving. They need a proper dash in front of the driver, really stupid design, as well, the shifter handle looks out of place. Two fails for them. For $90k it should have all the amenities of a luxury vehicle irregardless of it being a multi-use vehicle. The Landcruiser has more, plus Toyota brand behind it for far less, for that money you can do a lot! I don't think the Ineos is going to be better than the LandCruiser off-road in stock trim, not at all. Also, nobody is spending $90k to simply beat the crap out of it off-roading. It will be used more onroad by 99% of the buyers including yourself. Hopefully they give Ineos more luxury and fix that horrific dash to attract a wider audience, omg, can't get passed that dash, just so awful, it looks so out of place. It reminds me of the Nissan Z dash where for years they had given us analog gauges, but then had to place one digital gauge within the cluster, WTF. How does someone look at that and go, hmm, I like it, fits right in to the theme of the car. lol. Have a great day!

I am trying to put my head around why anyone would purchase an Ineos. They are a brand new company comprised of parts from generally unreliable vehicles. Buying a Range Rover/Jaguar is bad enough and they have financial stay-in power from their Indian owned Tata parent corporation.
I understand the Ineos is "neat." However, its fate is sealed. It will be unreliable, no dealer service network, have horrid resale value, and ultimately collapse.
For a "fun" SUV, the Ineos sounds like a great toy for a few months.
Fighting with your vehicle on a daily basis gets old rather quickly.
The Landcruiser is in an entirely different league for an actual reliable, value-retaining, overall looks and drivability, legendary history, dealer networks, and day-to-day operations.
