Thanks for your latest thoughts. My wife and I have been a 2 FJ Cruiser Seattle family for 17-18 years (Voodoo Blue & SunFusion Yellow). Proud to say we placed our order for 2 Grenadiers 10 weeks ago. Can’t wait.

It’s not an SUV. It’s a proper 4x4. The checker plates are not cosmetic. They are functional. I’ve stood on them many times. I’ve had my Scottish white Trialmaster for 3 months. Over 10k miles. I absolutely love mine.
Good to watch a true evaluation of the grenadier , I had one on order a commercial version but canceled when I learnt it wasn’t recognised by HMRC as a commercial , so went and bought 3 defender 110 commercial’s for my business , in the mean time this has now been addressed . I keep my company vehicles for 2.5 years so maybe now I will try the grenadier in 2 years time , and then all if any gremlins will sorted .
5 months later : "Why I'm selling my Ineos Grenadier"
They are already selling used for circa $80kAUD here in Australia with less then 5000km...alot of them with options were around $130k on the road. Meaning people are prepared to lose $50k to move it on, which i find concerning.
My leading theory is I think alot of this is due to the fact that individuals who purchased them thought they'd drive like a modern SUV, when they handle like a 20th century solid axle 4WD truck, which is a HUGE compromise for people who just wanted it for the looks Vs the actual capability of the vehicle.
Mine drives completely fine, but I do have the P rated Bridgestones. I think the people complaining ordered theirs with the LT rated K02's which are 10lb heavier per corner. I am guessing that affect handling significantly.
@@Shivnandak yes they drive fine....but they also don't drive like a IFS 200 series or 300 series LandCruiser either, which in Australia is the big leading touring vehicle.
I do think Aus/NZ will have more early buyer swing than a lot of markets. You guys were the first market to launch, so there was just the novelty factor. Also, when I go down there to work, I get this “overland man vibe.” Everyone with tricked out LC300’s and 70’s. It reminds me of the Mountain West in the US - Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Montana and Wyoming. Tons of tricked out Toyota 4Runners with every possible accessory and modification- kind of an “alpha male” mating signal. But a lot of those guys don’t actually use them, and it’s just posturing - that would get old for a tech bro in his daily Denver commute - same as a banker in Melbourne.
@@ElderStatesman-pi3lc yeah Australia essentially nullified it's street car scene years ago after Holden and Ford shut down and police made it next to impossible to enjoy them, alot of car enthusiasts shifted to 4wd Dual Cabs (top 3 highest selling vehicles for over a decade, being ford ranger, Toyota Hilux and usually Mitsubishi Triton/Isuzu dmax/ Mazda bt50 coming in 3rd place)
Those vehicles are essentially gateway 4wds for alot of young guys, before moving onto big dollar 70 series cruiser builds or chopped 200/300 series conversions, or Nissan Patrols etc etc. The scene in Australia for overlanding/touring is unlike anywhere else in the sense that alot of people have cash/disposable incomes and big dollar builds are a dime a dozen down here... And it's also due to the fact that we do have one of the best countries on the planet to explore with a 4wd, with every conceivable terrain and climate at our finger tips.
@@gureno19yeah I notice that when I’m down there - and since I lived in the US Mountain West, I immediately picked up where it was coming from. But it also probably means misfires on the early buyer wave for the Grenadier. I don’t think the US will have as much of that - some pockets, yes (lookin’ at you, SoCal and Florida) - they will tire of it quickly. But I would be surprised to see as much of a turnover wave. A lot of buyers are getting exactly what they expected - and frankly were probably more informed at final purchase, since you guys had already been providing reviews and insight for over a year. Saw a dark green fieldmaster version in person yesterday. Looked very cool. If it wasnt so slow, I might be tempted to pickup a used one after values drop.
It’s not that slow, plus off-roaders aren’t meant to be race cars.
I think the extra tie downs can be used on the side of the vehicle as well. I think it’s the same trac. Nice color

Ben so soooo right in describing it as a better more modern W463 G wagon. It might have something to do with Magna doing all the engineering for it in Gratz (Austria) the same facility where they’ve built the G wagon for merc since 1979.

This has so much in common with a land rover discovery 2 looks wise, this is the true successor to the discovery in my opinion, not only the true defender successor but also the discovery which died with the release of the disco 5.

@BenHardyCars Did you add the tint or was the darker glass package included in the original build? If you added it, how dark did you end up going on each window + the safari windows? I'm looking to get mine ceramic/tinted this week to protect it from the Utah sun but haven't decided yet on how dark to go.

I believe it will look better with bigger and fatter tyres.
“like not having a gauge cluster for visibility”.. but there is that warning lights cluster which should be the gauge cluster and would not effect visibility. So weird that those lights look like something from my 2012 Jeep. Ineos could have used a strip and lcds for a gauge cluster - you don’t need a special dedicated spot for each warning light.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the Grenadier is awesome and I want one. Just not keen on that cluster.
It annoyed me for about 2 drives and then I got used to it.

This was close enough and I wanted to downsize from 4 cars to 3 now, rather than later.
What size of gas tank is in that puppy? full tank = 280 miles to empty. 20gal?
It only shows 280, but you can get well over 300 miles on a tank.
@@BenHardyCars Cool about two hours before you posted the vid I did a build of almost your truck. then found out that's it's a six-hour trip to the nearest dealership. So, their go's that Idea to take a test drive.
Depending on how serious you are about the Grenadier there is a German company named LeTech that produces portal axles for it and boy does it look amazing on portals

I would wager that when these hit the used market in a year or two, that you could pick one of these up for 50% off. Too niche of a vehicle. Combine English reliability with German power, and you're just asking to lose money.

Considering no part of it comes from England that is out of the picture. Mine is now coming up to 8 months old. Cost me AUD$121,000 (USD$80,000) but to order new today is AUD$153,000 (USD$101,000). I agree. A Toyota drivetrain would have been better. Non mechanical folks would be more drawn to BMW though.

It's definitely a cool looking car, but gas mileage is terrible, and it has a BMW engine. At $70-90k, your money is well spent on the Lexus/Toyota Land Cruiser. Their engines are completely reliable. We had an FJ with over 250k miles, never an engine issue or any other issues for matter. A landcruiser with never an issue, a highlander at 270k miles no issues and a 4Runner no issues and well over 180k miles. All that said, with gas prices as they are today, not to mention inflation, it would be fantastic to have something like this that's reasonably priced with at least 30mpg. I think hybrid is the way to go.
It is ok that you like it just like a G-wagon, but that care is not more capable than a wrangler and the engine reliability, i mean BMW reliability! For that money a 392 much better, even a Power wagon would have being better. But I’m glad you are happy. But this granadier us like an expensive camaleón

Fine choice, but this gets stronger running gear, uniqueness, and for me ROOM. I just cannot do Jeeps due to space. I only camp on the trail. And even 4 door Jeeps do not have the space.

They are designed for pulling the vehicle towards the anchor point
