    Here's how to play Jumpin' Jack Flash by The Rolling Stones, accurate to how Keith Richards plays it Live!
    Open G tuning is (strings 6 to 1 - x means this string is not played, Keith takes his string 6 off!);
    X - G - D - G - B - D
    To do this, you'll need a tuner that shows any note name, not one that works only for standard tuning. After this initial setup, everything is quite easy to play - give it a go!

    I've been playing this song for years, and never knew it was in Open G. I just finished Keith's book where he says he played this and a number of others in Open G. This is a great lesson, and sheds a whole new light on the tune. I still play it the Johnny Winter way, though; can't help it...

      It's interesting considering in the studio recording and inital live recordings it is played in open D or Open E

      This is pretty true to how Keith played it in 72, and it's probably my favorite version live, but over the years Keith plays this a bunch of different ways depending on how true to the original he wants to do it... Great lesson!!!

    Great job. You not only have taught us the notes, but you have the feel of the song too. Thanks. One thing I would like to see is the intro, in the original record version. Now I'm unclear who plays those opening riffs in the intro, is that Brian Jones, or Richards?

    Great lesson, and maybe I’m missing something, but when you re-tuned after placing the capo on the 4th fret, you never mentioned what you were tuning to. Was it the same D-G-D-G-B-D? Sorry if it’s a silly question!

  • @DDEENY
    @DDEENY 4 роки тому

    The only comment that I have is that Keith used to bend that third note in the riff and you can hear that best when he begins the riff on the GET YER YA-YA's OUT! live version. He has since discontinued that. Before Keith adapted the riff to open-G tuning, he had played the riff onstage in standard tuning with the B5/A5 chords in the lower position. Brian was also playing in that position. Witness THE ROLLING STONES ROCK AND ROLL CIRCUS.

  • @kingface
    @kingface Рік тому

    I used a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic tuned to open D, six string. Open D or open E, which is the same thing - same intervals - but it would be slackened down some for D. Then there was a capo on it, to get that really tight sound.- Keith Richard’s

    • @jollyboyspecial
      @jollyboyspecial 3 роки тому +1

      @@faustotellez6102 Hi I'm not much for playing songs like that, I just like to jam. But there's a lot of artists who can inspire you in open G. Led Zeppelin songs in open tunings aren't uncommon, one that springs to mind is That's The Way. Gordon Giltrap has done some very interesting things in open G, his music might not be your thing, but I guarantee you will learn some new stuff from his playing that you can add to your own. Other songs you might want to listen to, Watch Over You - Alter Bridge, Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Daughter - Pearl Jam. And of course there's any amount of good old delta blues in open G, some slide and some not. Oh and I believe Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits was in open G. One other useful thing for anybody playing in open G (or any other open tuning) is a capo.

    Hey Andy awesome video as always, I understand the open G tuning on this song so you only change 2 strings.....but is it just the 2 strings for this particular song? or is it only ever changing 2 strings tuning for any G tuning? I'm fairly new to all this. Thanks in advance.

    • @icafoley5421
      @icafoley5421 6 років тому +1

      Open G tuning is actually changing three strings, the lowest sounding (thickest) 2 strings, and the highest sounding string, the top 2 and the bottom one, if you will, BUT the reason he changes 2 is because Keith actually took off the lowest sounding (top) string on his guitar and nly plays with 5! - sowith or without a top strong, if you tune down the second from top and the first bottom strongs down one full step (2 frets) each, you'll be good to play all the stones hits in open G, start me up, this, you can't always get what you want (but that's easier in open G!) - on Exile, Tumbling Dice and Happy both use similar chords, and are both played with a capo on the 4th fret as well as open G tuning :)
