"Paint It, Black” by The Rolling Stones
Producer: Andrew Loog Oldham
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Lyricists: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Associated Performers: Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman
Lyrics:
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens every day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door, I must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin' sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I wanna see your face, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun flying high in the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!

People usually fail to understand just how early the Rolling Stones were.
This song came out in the 60's! Can you imagine how it felt to hear a song like this in a decade when people were still listening to Elvis?
You mean the time where racism is so bad that people got killed?
It was a sing that was enjoyed by American soldiers in Vietnam

The first 7 seconds of this song are so haunting and immediately draw you into the song. Brian Jones was a genius instrumentalist. In 50 years people will still be listening to The Rolling Stones and appreciating their genius.
Definitely! He learnt to play the sitar specially for this song. That Indian instrument gives to the song its peculiar and unique sound.

He once drove the car with me in it into a canal because he was screaming Charlie was behind us. They found a bunch of needles in the glove box when they got us and then the car out. My mom left him for that and I saw him once more before he died. He was shooting heroin sublingually because all his views were shot and he could only get his neck in one spot or under his tongue. He eventually, inevitably, overdosed and his pain was finally over. War does horrific things to the ones who die there and also to the ones who come back.

This song is a timeless classic
Curious Fact: Jagger is said to have taken inspiration from Irish writer James Joyce's novel Ulysses and sought to capture its concept of universal sadness and desolation.
The idea of including the sound of the oriental instrument came from Brian Jones after a conversation with George Harrison, who had already used it for the song "Norwegian Wood" by The Beatles. And it was only a matter of time before, on a trip to the Fiji Islands, the band members were convinced by the sound of the instrument and allowed themselves to work with one.
I became addicted to this song when it came out in the mid 60's.
